You are the man. So is anyone that goes from normal air to thinner air, wait for it, on foot. Kudos for another great adventure. As long as nothing is amiss on the brakes a rattle is pretty normal. It's part of a University of California high altitude research project. Apparently they hold open house events as well. That's what I found after a quick search anyway. Cheers!
Foresty,, I’m an auto racing mechanic by trade with vast experience in brakes on race cars of all kinds. The info that follows is 40 years of collected knowledge 101 about brakes: Brake pads should not rattle as they wear. When they do it means the brake hardware, those clips, etc have lost their tension from heat and age. Pad rattle is also an indication of brake calipers that are wearing out. The internal seals do more than seal the pistons, they keep tension on the caliper so the brakes stay firm. What’s slowly happening is what is called brake pad knock back, it’s happening to your van from all the off road driving. In my world of racing cars it happens due to excessive heat, hoping curbs, and rotor wear. The last thing that you should check are the caliper pins as the tiniest of wear on them is magnified by how the caliper is mounted and their minor wear will contribute to pad rattle. My guess is you are experiencing a slightly longer brake pedal than normal, it might be so slight you haven’t noticed yet but if you really focus on how your van brakes I bet you’ll be able to sense that the pedal is a few millimeters lower as it actuates the brakes. Sorry this was long but I wanted to pass on the details so you can perform a proper inspection and repair down the road.
@@forestyforest as the pads and rotors wear the fluid level does drop to compensate. It might be worth changing the brake fluid next time you do a brake service. Parts stores will loan you a vacuum bleeder and it’s the best way to do the job solo.
Great camera work, as always. I like the green sides of the Canadian Rockies better than the brown and red sides of the American Southwest, but you do get the best shots, whatever. I'd love to see some more drone work. Also, anyone else missing the Foresty Forest jingle?

10,000 is another level of fit. Much respect. Take care
Welcome back to California, Foresty, it’s good that you’re here.
Thanks! Last time i did an oil change, they told me the brake fluid was a little low. That might indicate something? Maybe time for an overhaul?
@@forestyforest as the pads and rotors wear the fluid level does drop to compensate. It might be worth changing the brake fluid next time you do a brake service. Parts stores will loan you a vacuum bleeder and it’s the best way to do the job solo.
Thank you Forestry. being a tree farmer stressed from just chastising a ignorant "doctor" here you are for respite. Thank You
If you're passing through Bishop, CA Erick Schat's Bakkery is a local well-loved institution of baking goodness.
The footage of your feet as you were climbing up was really cool!
Amazing view, the distance you can see is overwhelming. Thank you for sharing.
Forestry Forest, he lives in a van.... In Cali ❤️😎🌴👍. I love how you just stop and fix things on your van. You are unstoppable!
Great camera work, as always. I like the green sides of the Canadian Rockies better than the brown and red sides of the American Southwest, but you do get the best shots, whatever. I'd love to see some more drone work.
Also, anyone else missing the Foresty Forest jingle?
Best friend and I did a 14,250 foot mountain several years ago. I'm still recovering to this day!!!!!😁
Impressive! I've only hiked to the summit from the trailhead which starts at 11,700ish feet. I didn't even know there was another way to get to the summit.
I always end up hungry after you make a slow cook meal! That was quite a climb. It was good that you had dinner ready when you got back. I'm happy to hear that there is a road to the top. That's the only way I'm going to get up there. Probably take some oxygen with me. I wish that I would have been able to travel when I was young. Thanks so much for taking videos. I really enjoy them.
I like that artsy shot with the broken TV in the opening!
Have to say the wood stove was a really cool addition!!
Everything you put out contentwise is pure genius. Don’t listen to the arm chair quarterbacks......and thank you for inspiring me to get more out of life during a time when everybody has struggled! I laughed when you said your heart rate was red lining.....you are one of the most humble athletes I have ever witnessed.....ever! And your chef skills are second to none. I teach outdoor ed. I know what it takes to take kids on a hike. I have never climbed close to a single hill let along a real mountain. I will be building quinzies and making kids sleep in them this week!! We will watch Foresty videos to get hyped!!!
It’s incredible what a human being can achieve by just putting one foot in front of the other. You are inspirational (and very fit!).
I am always amazed at what fit young men can accomplish.
I drove with my family to the top as a child, later MTB'd it the top in '96. There are quite a few hot springs up towards Mammoth. Most dirt roads lead to a spring.
Y’all gotta “glue” the pads to the caliper using “stop squeal” type of stuff. I like the orange “disc brake quiet.” Stops the rattles like a champ.
Serious mountain hike.
Glad u got rattle on van fixed for now. Great video as usual
Foresty gets it done. Major hike in one day👍⚡️💪
