The "beat" of this song is a waltz. My wife made me learn to waltz before she would say yes to marrying me. She said, "If you won't dance with me, you can't be jealous WHEN (not IF) I dance with other men." I still don't waltz well, but I've got the "1-2,3,4..1-2,3,4" down.

Trivia: Could I Have This Dance was originally intended to be a duet with Anne and Kenny Rogers. Anne recorded the song; Kenny was unavailable. Capitol Records executives liked what Anne recorded and released it as a single and it took off up the charts!

You should watch Uban Cowboy with John Travolta. It is a great movie and yes, this is played at a wedding reception. John dances in the movie of course and it is great!

The whole soundtrack is filled with GREAT Country, Rock and pop which are now classics!!! when I saw that movie I was 13 and had only lived in the Bronx and Brooklyn (No country music at all, lol) and I LOVED the music; I was obsessed for a while as many of us were; Charlie Daniels, Joe Walsh, Boz Scaggs, Mickey Gilley, JD Souther and Linda Ronstadt, It would be awesome! Love Anne since I was a kid...this was my moms wedding song...my step dad was killed 5 weeks after they were married so the memories from being 7 are crazy. On my rotation even tho it tears me up :)
i guess every generation probably things their music is the best , but i'm one that can love music from every generation and i am serious i even love alot of music that goes way back to the late 1800's , but something seems to be missing from this generations music ... a sweetness and tenderness and warmth , oh how i wish we could get that back , something else , i notice quite a number of reactionary are saying why can we have songs or music like that.
