- In this tutorial, we will show you how to import comma separated value (CSV) data which contains latitude & longitude into QGIS, how to plot the points on a map, and how to export the data into an ESRI Shapefile.
Download the data - drive.google.com/drive/folder...
Thanks man, probably the most asked question when starting georeferencing in gis and qgis and you answered it without the chaff. thanks bud!
Thank you for this video! I am trying to do a GIS assignment at university and had no idea how to do it. You are a life saver!
I was overwhelmed by the quality of specialized tutorials on this channel. You are doing a wonder work.
I wish these videos have a longer version which is a composition of all these shorter ones joined together to create a single video. It's the trend now so that some of us who find it difficult to move from one video to the other will learn from a single extended video. These days it's common to see videos of over seven hours. Please look into this suggestion. Thanks.
Thank God for people like you, helping us poor struggling folks everyday! Very simple, step-by-step explanation. Thank you very much!
You are welcome
I love you. So. Much.
I have been trying so hard to figure out why I couldn’t get my points onto my map, trying all kinds of spatial joins, editing the .csvt file to make attributes integers-everything. I found this video and realized oh my god I put the longitude values on the y-axis and latitude on the x-axis! Thank you!!!
Your tutorial is the best so far, I watched just one of your videos and i was able to create a shapefile now working on creating a map. YOU ARE THE BEST!!!
Thanks a lot! That's probably the most common question when starting georeferencing in GIS and QGIS, and you gave a straightforward answer without any unnecessary details. Appreciate it, buddy!
-I don't have OpenStreetMap, how can I get it?
Simple and practical. Perfect video, thanks a lot man!!
Thank you so much! This was exactly what I was looking for. Clearly explained with no nonsense and no expert language.
Me salvaste de la frustración 😁, pues cargaba el archivo como capa vectorial y simplemente no podía hacer que QGIS reconociera el formato de cada columna del csv. I LOVE YOU!!!
This is exactly, what I have been looking for. Thank you very much for creating such a nice tutorial video. Appreciate that. 🙂
Thank you for the shearing! I started my own project and had no idea how to add the data.
Thanks a lot , you explained this very nicely. you have got a lovely voice.
Thanks, It is very useful. Clearly explained. Appreciate the good work.
Thanks alot. Used MGE & Arcview many years ago. I don't find QGIS easy to use (but I appreciate how good it will be) but you explain it very, very well.
Great 👍
Love every videos of yours. Keep up the nice work sir
I cannot express how much I despise this program. Sadly, I am forced to use it for work. Thanks for the tutorial, helped a lot
You are welcome :)
Thank you man. This has been very useful
When I import ths CSV file, the table is not separated. The columns of X, Y coordinates go to one column. Why is that happening? I have made the original excel table like yours
Thank you, Very well explained.
Excellent tutorial, as always....
Thank you!!! doing my thesis now and the video was very helpful thank you!

Thanks! Helped a lot!
You're welcome!
Thank you. You really help me but i have misunderstood how gives name to points .
thanks for the info :)
thanks, how to add x and y axis, showing the label of coordinates in UTM, and show legend and save as a picture for scientific publication indicating the experiment sites please
Good work
well explained
LoveU Bro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tanks sir usefull video
Thanks ihope to be professional Qgis I need more lectures
Very nice
I'm working with GPS data in CSV format but i need to track a moving object offlline, if my CSV formar data is constantly updating can i export that to QGIS to see a "real-time" change? I know python and i think that i can make it work with that.
Thanks
good tutorial
Thanks!
Hi. how want to decide on choosing the x and y axis ? cause i want to add time series data (rainfall data for several districts) ?
Thank you!
You are welcome
THANK YOU!
Welcome ☺️
Thank you
thankyou verymuchhhhhh
Thank you so much
You are welcome
I do appreciate all of your videos. I have successfully imported a CSV file, but when I try to export to a SHP or KML file format I receive a task failed message - looks like permission denied.
Export to vector file failed.
Error: Creation of data source failed (OGR error: Failed to create KML file 911 data.kml: 911 data.kml: Permission denied)
Is there something else that needs configured?
Thank you for your nice tutorial so can you please let me know how to change the file to GPX so I can use it with Garmin GPS
afetr creating points in web i cant find able to find quick map services and i have no exact geocoordinates map with me . pls suggest what shall i do
thank you so much.
You are welcome :)
Thank you.
No problem 👍
when i trying to clip the polygone from map its showing me error
Thanks 😊
Welcome 😊
sir can you suggest some portals where i can find Indian city lat longs . Or good open-source portal in india
Tnqso much Sir
You are welcome :)
Thanks. This is very helpful. Is there a way/link to install the latest version of QGIS?
You can download from qgis.org
thx!
Thanks a lot. I'm still struggling, my csv file does not separate the longitude and latitude. what can be the problem?
The reason for your issue is the excel separator. Here is what you need to do: Do anything as he does. After you opened "Add delimited Text Layer" go to the file format menu. You have to choose user-defined. If comma is selected, change to semicolon. If semicolon is selected, change to comma. If both do not work, change to tabulator
what if you don't have the latitude and longitude?
What is the alternative to have your points appearing on the map?
That information is essential to add the points to the correct locationa
Hi thanks for the nice video but unfortunately when I do it the exact same way my qGIS does not let me Add my CSV file. The Add button is grey and if I wanna change the geometry definition for the x and y fields I can not change them to longitude and latitude, do you know where I am going wrong? Any help would be very much appreciated
Can you tell how important this ? I have Presentation and i have to say this in my slides 😭😭
Hi, I imported this csv data to qgis and it displays the dots, but when I added the OSM, it is displaying them as dot outside of the map. Should I change CRS for the imported data, OSM or project or any other changes? Thanks
How did you win it I failed even finding those dots
Hello, why at Geometry CRS at my project its "Invalid Projection" ? Can someone help me ;)
nice
Is there a way to change or update the coordinate points after importing it to qgis? Or would I have to edit it on excel and then import again
The latter would be what I would do
Sir i don't have quick map service how can i get that?
Hi thanks for the video. what would be the procedure if now i want to add points from the americas? i would like to have coordinate points from aroun the world?
How to see latitude longitude and as well as northing easting coordinates in qgis attribute table., Please tell me this sir
good
My excel is already divided into multiple columns, but when i imported it into qgis, it read everything as 1 column. Any idea how to fix this?
Save your excel as a .CSV file. Then try importing it to QGIS
I'm experiencing the same. Did you get help?
@@tembalethutele1 same with me now. Could you solve the problem?
sir when u clicked on web u got so many options but for me it is showing only meta search
me too. how do you fix this
How do i solve the issue of the imported data not previewing the way it should on the sample data
Did you check the CRS?
@@geodeltalabs i managed to do it properly
@@unarinenemutudi4054 Hey, how did you do it? I've got the same problem and have absolutely no idea how to solve it.
I have the same problem indeed.. tips anyone?
in Web option i don't have that option to show to map under the dots,
what should i do??
Thank you. For some reason it is not working. I have followed the instructions bit what opens qgis a table without information. My excel look just like your. What could be the problem?
Please did you find the cause of the problem? I'm previewing past questions on gis, and I saw thesame question asked.
Did you make sure you are using a .csv file and not another format?
This whole comment section shows repeatedly this exact problem. Did anybody find out how to fix this?@@nabilaahmadmandawari6224
How to download landslide point in qgis
Sorry i'm not aware of any portals that provide landslide data. There should be some out there though
I followed every step but it wont work do you need special settings for excel of something?
Not really. Have you check whether you are mixing up x, y with lat, lon assignment? this is a common mistake
OSM isn't opening. Can you please help me with that?
Why do my columns never seperate when inserting the file into QGIS? They are all stacked in one column.
Pretty sure the issue is with specifying the correct delimiter
I don't have OpenStreetMap, how can I get it?
What the hell I imported my latitude/longitude data into QGIS which was supposed to show coordinate points in the U.S, but all of my points are in Asia wtf...
Hey brother, where do you extract the csv file from?
Hi, it was created manually just for the purpose of this video tutorial
@@geodeltalabs you just manually typed coordinates in excel, and saved as csv, and open it in qgis? But in my case, when I'm opening file in qgis, in ports coordinates - X filed, there are all names and numbers from first column , I can't select only longitude or latitude.... Where is my mistake?
what about a polygons
Whoops..forget that question. Directory file location rights.
Thank you
