  • (12 Oct 2018) Sotheby's is to auction a jewelry collection that once belonged to the French queen, Marie Antoinette.
The sale of "Royal Jewels from the Bourbon-Parma family" is set to take place in Geneva on November 14.
The jewels will be shown in New York during Sotheby's Fine Jewels exhibition on October 17, which will also include collections from Barbara Sinatra and Happy Rockefeller.
Sotheby's says Marie Antoinette, who was executed by guillotine during the French Revolution, was often portrayed wearing pearls, which the auction house says were as prized as diamonds in the late 18th century.
Sotheby's says the highlight of the collection, "Queen Marie Antoinette's Pearl" - a diamond and pearl brooch - is expected to fetch more than one million dollars.

This is a hauntingly beautiful video. These particular jewels exemplify the word “exquisite.”

In the Philippines, the government has plans to auction off Imelda Marcos' jewelry collection, but Filipinos want them to be on display in museums instead... if they get auctioned off I'm 99.99% sure that the money would end up in some corrupt politician's pocket.

The owners need the money. It went down to the Bourbon family and likely they are going broke. It is usually the case when people sell such items ! they have to pay their taxes...ha...ha....Maybe Macron will buy some of these jewels. Would be very " fitting "......
