    I feel like the biggest issue is that the supporting characters are mostly there for comedic purposes. What made the Raimi series so good was that every single character was super developed, even MJ. The interactions between all these characters is what created the drama. Also I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the fact that in Far From Home when Peter was stuck in the Netherlands during his lowest point, all he had to do was make a phone call to Happy. He had to make a SINGLE PHONE CALL to get out of the situation he was in. It would have been much better to have him get out of that situation himself and see him develop into the real hero he's supposed to be

      That’s not even sort of true. You’re not even trying to be intellectually honest here.
      “The interactions between all these characters is what created the drama.” That’s literally the case in Far From Home and Homecoming as well.
      “Also I’m surprised that no one mentioned the fact that in Far From Home when Peter was stuck in the Netherlands during his lowest point, all he had to do was make a phone call to Happy.”

      this Bubbly Goodness “exactly,” Exactly nothing. Both of you are yet to explain the alleged “issue.”
      “a single phone call,” Which wasn’t wasn’t even on his own phone. He literally had to borrow it from a stranger.
      Also, you know that Peter being somewhere else doesn’t make Happy cease to exist or Peter forget numbers, right? RIGHT?
      “a new suit,” One that HE MADE. Way to leave that out.
      “staying in 5 star hotels across Europe” What? If you’re talking about Civil War, that’s more than seven years prior. And if you’re talking about Far From Home, that happens a grand total of ONCE. Not “across Europe.” And that was only because Fury interfered.
      “this version of spider-man seems to have more of an easy life than any other version of spider-man ive seen so far”
      And clearly none of those versions you’ve seen so far includes the MCU version, because he has the furthest thing from an easy life. You’d have to not be watching to movies to miss this fact.
      “what a joke” I agree. You’re pathetically bad lies are a joke. You didn’t even pretend you’ve watched these movies.

    • @Slimshadow457
      @Slimshadow457 Pƙed 2 lety +3

      @@keeganmclean2017 Because there's an inherent difference between skipping the coming of age story and repeating it ad-nauseam 3 movies in a row without letting the character move forward in the slightest.
      No? Homecoming is about Peter learning the meaning of responsibility by not relying on Stark's suit and about finding his place as a small time hero. He learns that with his abilities, he has the unique power to make a meaningful difference and stop someone bad (Vulture) from making the world a worse place, and he can't rely on others (Tony) to fix his messes. He is left to his own devices and becomes his own hero.
      FFH is about Peter learning the meaning of responsibility (his actions having severe consequences and almost getting him and his entire class killed multiple times) and stepping out of Iron Man's shadow (whatever that's supposed to mean for Spidey I guess?)
      He learns that with his abilities, he has the unique power to make a meaningful difference and stop someone bad (Mysterio) from making the world a worse place, and he can't rely on others (Fury) to fix his messes. He is left to his own devices and becomes his own hero.
      NWH, (spoiler alert obv) is about Peter LEARNING THE MEANING OF RESPONSIBILITY IN THE FACT HE IS THE REASON THE VILLAINS ARE ON THE LOOSE AND HE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN STOP THEM. This time, the consequences come to pass and his aunt pays the price.
      He learns that with his abilities, he has the unique power to make a meaningful difference and stop some bad guys from making the world a worse place, and he can't rely on others (Strange) to fix his messes. He is left to his own devices (sorta) and becomes his own hero.
      Seriously. All three of these fucking movies went in a great big circle and pretty much put us where a lot of us assumed the character was after Civil War: A young Peter who's already gone through his origin story, and has a new suit and is ready to face the world.
      The only reason people are distracted from this fact is because they cram those movies full of MCU lore and fanwank and the last one went full on to bring in previous actors to wow everyone into forgetting this is now the third time Peter has pretty much been a stupid kid who didn't learn the lessons we thought he already was well past the point of knowing.

    • @keeganmclean2017
      @keeganmclean2017 Pƙed 2 lety +2

      @@Slimshadow457 No, the reason people are "distracted from this fact" is because it's not true. You can boil pretty much every Spider-Man story to "Peter once again learns that with great power comes great responsibility." But that fails to capture the nuance and meaning from each film.
      This whole trilogy is about Peter learning to be Spider-Man with a smaller and smaller safety net around him.
      In Homecoming, Peter proves that he doesn't need Stark's direct help to be his own small time hero. In Far From Home, he learns that he not only has a responsibility to larger threats but that he can and should face them without any other heroes providing him a safety net. Stark being dead (FFH) and just not in the final fight (Homecoming) are quite different if you actually think about it from Peter's perspective. No Way Home is about Peter learning that his loved ones can actually get hurt from his irresponsibility, so he chooses to be COMPLETELY ALONE rather than risk their safety. At the end of No Way Home, he truly feels like a grown-up Spider-Man who knows the meaning of his responsibility...and that's exactly what the trilogy was aiming to do. Bring Peter from a naive high schooler to a mature Spider-Man.

      I personally agree with Hi Top . When I learned about how much people kept liking mcu Spider-Man, I decided to check it out. I watched civil war,and liked him in that movie sooo I decided to watch homecoming .After watching it, I had a weird feeling ,I couldn't feel the charm of Spider-Man, my first ever introduction to the character was Spectacular Spider-Man, I didn't see Spider-Man,I saw Tom holland dressed as Spider-Man. I watched videos of people having problems with the MCU incarnation. I saw the gameplay/story mode of insomniacs Spider-Man and I new what the MCU was missing. A lot of MCU fanboys say tobey was a good Peter Parker because he was nerdy,andrew was the best Spider-Man because humour ,and Tom holland is both a he is nerdy and humour. Which makes him the best . Which I completely disagree with .Spider-Man isn't 2dimensional . There is more to him than nerdiness and humour,Hi Top said it perfectly .Tom holland himself called his Spider-Man iron man jr. Again everyone has there own opinion but I hate when these MCU fanboys bash others just because they think he is the best. The reason they think he is the best is far from the true character of Spider-Man

    But the film is always under some kind of shadow -- Iron Man. The villain is bent on revenge, the hero is trying to live up to him and the world is asking the hero to be like him. As you said, in 'Homecoming', Peter refused Tony's offer. And Vulture, though he had bitterness on Stark, his main motivation is to care for his family.

Sure, there were nods and references to the other heroes in the universe, but they were background elements, realistically woven into the characters’ lives. The focus was on Shazam from beginning to end, with another hero only showing up in the post-credits scene as a joke. In Marvel movies, there are constant references to other events and heroes in the universe, and while it’s great for world-building, it makes it impossible for any hero to feel like their own hero.

    The reason they couldn’t use Flash as a romantic rival is because they’ve taken away everything that made him a more obvious choice than Peter. It’s not that we can’t entertain the possibility of him actually winning, we can’t entertain the thought that MJ would even think of dating this guy. In the comics, he’s not really that intelligent, but he’s cool, strong, good looking and popular. Hell, the guy even goes on to realize how ridiculous he was in school and becomes a war hero, proving that even someone like him can use his natural leadership and physical skills for a better and more respectable reason other than picking on nerds. The “great power=great responsibility” lesson is something he learns to abide by, without super powers, and ironically from Spider-Man, whom he admires while picking on Peter.
    In the MCU, he’s less good looking than Peter, skinnier, shorter, less intelligent and less popular. He doesn’t seem to have much more than dad’s money going for him, and we even see his father is absent. Brad at least seems like a charismatic good looking dude you could believe could actually steal Peter’s girl. Flash is the school’s punching bag, everyone makes fun of him, nobody respects him. Even in a crisis, in the comics, you could see Flash’s natural leading skills kicking in gear, trying to help his peers out of situations until Spider-Man showed up, sometimes even attempts to fight super villains, despite his lack of powers. The one in the MCU just cowers in fear until he’s saved. He’s too dumb for the nerds, and too physically and socially unimpressive for the jocks and the cool kids, so he’s even more of an outcast than Peter in these movies, who at least belongs somewhere, socially speaking.

      simonegreco For me, at least, I always loved Spidey because he was a genius-level intellect who still felt like you’re average pure guy who just wants to do the right thing. He struggled with financial issues, depression, psychological trauma, girls, stress, etc. just as we do. But despite this, he was his OWN SUPERHERO and was always able to achieve his goals with his wits, intelligence, and his own power. He made a name for himself and was able to achieve greatness by his own merits. However, in the MCU, he starts out like this, but is subsequently constantly put into a place of luxury and privilege. I won’t go too in depth with it, but he no longer feels like his own hero. He feels like a pawn of tony stark.

    • @simonegreco1958
      @simonegreco1958 Pƙed 4 lety +14

      @@keno4770 this would be a good point if the part about privilege wasn't false
      Tony just gives him suits. He doesn't give him financial aid. He doesn't make him more popular. He doesn't make his social problems disappear. Peter is still is own person. He just had to deal with superhero pressure, something that couldn't have happened in the comics to this degree not because the personality differs, but because Peter was a first generation hero. That's not the case with the MCU, and that's ok

    • @keno4770
      @keno4770 Pƙed 4 lety +20

      simonegreco don’t just focus on the financial aid. The main problem goes back to what I said earlier. In other incarnations, whenever Spidey would be up again a villain he couldn’t beat, the only choices he had were to use his own intelligence and/or to self-innovate new ways of using his own technology or small set of powers. In the MCU Tony has given Peter a multi-million dollar suit that has about as many excessive bells and whistles to get Peter out of every possible situation (oh yeah, and it has an A.I. just for shits and giggles). You can say that he learns to function without it at the end of homecoming, but he goes right back to using a special high-tech suit as his default in this film. This completely takes away the sense of ingenuity and that aspect of being the underdog that is associated with Spider-Man. This is only accentuated when we realize that he can always call happy hogan to get him out of a tough situation. Also, I hate, and I mean hate, the whole thing of them trying to make tony peter’s uncle Ben. I get that it has to do with Tony’s redemption and him leaving behind a positive legacy, but it comes at the price of seemingly ignoring peter’s fundamental reason for being the hero that he is.

Both IM2 and HoCo already had villains that were based on Tony's shortcomings, and FFH includes as one of the "villains"...the guy that Stane yelled at? So that was already overused, but more than that, I hate what they did to Tony's legacy, especially after what he said in IM1 that he "had more to offer the world than things that blow up"....so he gives Peter Edith?
    Even if they wanted to touch on Tony's legacy, there's a pretty clear parallel to be made now about how Pepper and Morgan relate to May and Peter, because making the movie more intimate would have made it a lot better.

      But they decided they would rather have a funny road trip movie

    I feel like Far From Home's central plot point is how the responsibility of being a hero is crushing Peter, especially in this new paradigm of Spider-Man plus the fallout from Endgame. In Homecoming, Peter is blissful in his ignorance of what true responsibility is. He thinks he wants to be an Avenger, be a hero, but doesn't understand what that means. It's only when he is presented with the immediate threat of the Vulture and has to leave his date to pursue his responsibility that he begins to understand. It's the classic Spider-man internal conflict of responsibility taking precedence over his own life.
    Far From Home is the natural progression of a character who is now weary and, when you think about it, a war veteran. He has seen what his responsibility really is and is understandably afraid. He's not actually a passive character, he makes the choice to avoid conflict and responsibility but other characters won't accept that. May packing his suit, Fury forcing him to help, Spider-man is dragged into conflict kicking and screaming. That's not passive. The emotional height of the film comes when Spider-man breaks down with Happy. Happy makes it clear that this responsibility wasn't easy for Tony either. It's okay to be scared, it's okay to make mistakes. This lesson, hard learned though it is, changes Peter in the climatic final sequence. He is still human, afraid of failure, of making mistakes, but now he understands that his responsibility supersedes that fear. He's known this since Civil War but was never truly tested until now.
    I would argue that by the end of Far From Home we actually have the best on screen representation of Spider-man. Firm in his belief that with great power comes great responsibility and now with the actual gumption and confidence to stay true to that.

    that comparison between project insight in captain america: the winter soldier and EDITH in far from home - THANK YOU. it was all i could think about when watching ffh for the first time. crazy how in catws it's clear that project insight is A Bad Thing but in ffh tony essentially builds a smaller project insight into some ray bans and calls himself a hero for it. and then hands those ray bans to a literal teenager and said teenager almost kills a classmate. it's like there's supposed to be this continuity in the mcu because that's the whole point of the mcu in the first place but they ironically forget very important plot points from past movies

I'm not gonna sit here and say that the new spiderman movies are terrible, but you can't deny this disney takeover of the blockbuster market hasn't resulted in some pretty formulaic, sanitized films. Maybe he dominates the discourse here because he's... more right than not?
