  • Approximately 25 percent of homes in the United States are not connected to centralized sewer systems. These homes and businesses collect and treat their wastewater on their own property using systems that are referred to as onsite wastewater treatment systems, septic systems, or decentralized systems.
    In some rural and suburban areas, everyone uses decentralized systems. Even in communities with sewers and a centralized treatment facility, there are often areas the sewer does not reach and where homes or businesses are on septic systems. If a community wants to manage all of its wastewater, it is necessary to address both centralized and decentralized systems.
    This video is for small, rural communities that are looking for wastewater treatment options. Small, on-site treatment systems are an innovative way to treat water. They come in a variety of types and are often found in housing subdivisions, schools and small commercial centers. They have advantages for a variety of situations, especially for locations that are distant from or isolated from centralized sewer systems.
    This video addresses these aspects of small, on-site treatment systems:
    - what they takes to operate
    - what they take to maintain
    - their advantages
    - who might need one
    - overview of types

    I'm so used to learning about bigger ww plants. I didnt know these smaller treatment systems existed. These are pretty cool.

    I wonder the air transfer efficiency using those rotating drums.. as far as I know, oxygen has a very low diffusion rate and its bulk introduction into the water almost does nothing for the aeration purpose.

    With all that water and precious waste, why are they surrounded by a desert? The leach filed is as dry as a bone. Let's engineer better solutions. Let's use these resources.

    • @Rafungilo
      @Rafungilo Před 2 lety

      You can get a system that compost waste. You need a biology and meteorology class because that’s not nearly enough water to create a desert oasis🤦‍♂️

      @@Rafungilo. hi. Are you saying I couldn't nourish a garden or large greenhouse by diverting the grey water I use every day? That is Mike's idea, isn't it? You're saying "no." Could you offer a more feasible counter idea? I say plant 10 trees, care for them in general, and water them every other day or in a cycle throughout the week.Initially, greater care and compost/mulch would be required until they take root. Mini stand of trees with accompanying guild = microclimate = eventual oasis. Geoff Lawton and others have succeeded at this.

      @@Reciprocity_Soils you shouldn’t build a structure over drip lines, the pressure on the ground would back up the water flow, and it makes repairs a project. Certainly there’s things I don’t know about so I’m sure if made modifications you could get away with it. My point was only that if you 100,000 gallons of clean water into the Sahara you won’t get a rainforest
