The VA bases their ratings of 0%, 10%, 30%, 50%, 70% and total impairment of 100% largely on the level of occupational and social impairment that the disability causes. It is important to keep in mind that these levels are not the only things that the VA considers whenever determining a rating.
PTSD, like all other mental disorders are rated on the same scale by the diagnostic code. A rating of 100% can be assigned for PTSD if a veteran is unable to work at all strictly because of a mental disorder and mental symptoms.
