The Heretics React! The Warning Triple Feature Reaction (Enter Sandman, Dust To Dust, and Martirio)

- Fanbase Members, especially The Warning Army members....FEELIN' YOU!!! You all stepped up BIG TIME!!! We raised over $15,000.00 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital!!! That is BEYOND HUGE!!!! So here it is, as promised....A TRIPLE FEATURE REACTION TO THE WARNING by both Mrs. Heretic and myself.
To-NIGHT, in the triple feature, we have The Warning & Alessia Kara putting their spin on the biggest hit Metallica ever had, "Enter Sandman".
We follow that up with a reaction from just Mrs. Heretic to The Warning performing their song "Dust To Dust" Live at The Whisky. Full disclosure, I've done a reaction to this exact same performance already, so my wife will be flying solo on that one.
We'll end with something special....since you all went above and beyond the call of duty....we add their song that they JUST RELEASED, "Martirio", to close out the triple feature.
We both sincerely hope you enjoy watching and experiencing this triple feature as much as we did filming it. It is long, but keep in mind it is 3 reactions in one video.

Dunno if this has been mentioned -- On Enter Sandman, they had exactly 7 days from being asked to perform on the Blacklist album to get the song completed. They created the arrangement, collabed with Alessia in Canada and Matt Squire flew to Monterrey to produce the recording. Mixing was done by David Bendeth in New Jersey and mastering was done by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road Studios, London. Truly an international effort to get this song done in 7 days.

What a great reaction, we get the feelings and the technical.. All 3 are great songs. I feel they breathed new life into ES, and Martirio is a definite arena anthem vibe. Thankfully we have Dust to Dust on multiple video's as it prob won't be in any new live shows. It didn't even feel like this was a hour at all. Well done Mr. and Mrs. Heretic !

Well, you’ve got to admit that yes, Ale is a bassist that DO KNOW how to move on stage, how to bring to her performance a strong presence because of the way she moves; and she actually has said why she does it: because Pau is attached to her position behind the drums, and Dany, singing most of the times, is attached to the microphone, so she moves around the stage ‘cause she feels it’s her the one that, being able to move with more liberty around, it’s her responsibility to do it to help their public to engage with their performance. And she does an amazing job, she’s learned to grow a very own way to do it, with movements that make her look, thanks to the fact she’s so thin, but also way taller than her sisters, so her moves become powerful but elegant and mesmerizing, she’s learned very good how to have a great visual impact on stage!!

Metallica said it was a lullaby which I think they captured well. For me Alyssa is the mother laying the baby down. The Warning is the sandman taking the child off to sleep. The final riff is the child being handed over to Metallica to be taken off to never never land (cot death)
Don't forget it was filmed over Covid (social distancing) also Alyssa was in Canada TW were in Mexico. It was arranged in a week and recorded the following week all over the internet.
That is a very interesting interpretation - I always thought if The Warning opened for Metallica, they close with this, and then Metallica opening with their Enter Sandman as their 1st song as a continuation. That would lend a lot of credence to your thoughts. Cot death (or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome as its known as in Australia) is both a sad and very real experience for many parents - - - -I can see where you're coming from. Kudos
Mrs. Heretic. There is a big reason why you don't see a lot of interaction between the girls. As a three piece band that all do vocal duties they have to be in proximity of their microphones. Also it's hard to interact with a drummer because of all the drums. 😂

It seems the Villareal sisters are up for a Latin Grammy this year.
Love the fact you're calling out the tempo variations, the structural song arrangement and commenting on transitions. Especially for those of us that are not as knowledgeable musically; these reactions are even more interesting when someone shares what they're picking up.
As far as them moving around the stage more freely, I think there's the factor that they're all very interdependent. They sometimes switch vocals between members and there's a lot of coordination going on and there's very little margin for error being a trio. For example, in Evolve where Ale needs to step in for the lower range of the vocals, that seems to plant them close to the microphones reducing mobility.
As you called out David, the vocals were pushing the song forward, so it's unfortunate you couldn't enjoy the lyrical content. Some of the phrases have a bit of a layered meaning that give it a bit more depth. Not, that I think that would have influenced your score, but some of the vocal parts the enunciation and emphasis on some words enhanced the vocals even more, which were so prominent in this song.

@@allensaunders449 everything can be reduced to absurdity. I'm watching reaction videos because I want to see other people's takes on songs, aside from my own. A song stands up on its own based on its sound, obviously, but that does not mean there's no value in more detailed analysis. It's interesting to understand why things sound good, and the reasons for why songwriters pick certain variations, structures and chord progressions.
In terms of interaction, in a real live show Dany and Pau interact a lot with the audience so they are really focused out front. I left out Ale because her style is different, more aloof and cool, during the song. (I’m just going off video as I’ve yet to see them in person). When she talks to fans Ale is laid back and charming, but on stage she’s pretty intense).

On David’s comment on vocals pushing the song forward: I think of these harmony vocals as another instrument, and something The Warning can do that few bands can. And yes the Ale bass fill is so cool. I expected she would level up her playing on the upcoming album and three songs in I’m not disappointed (and from teasers I think the song Z is another great one for her).

She is a catalyst for Dave, her presence makes him even better that what he already is, I am delighted ❤️ About the 3rd song… MARTIRIO addresses a LONG standing tradition to subordinate yourself, your aspirations, your being for whats is supposed to be done, and sure enough one day it all stares in your face as a martyrdom (sacrifice for acceptance), a word MARTIRIO often used in Mexico representing unnecessary suffering but also self victimization, thus, this anthem to free yourself from a life control by external influences. IMO this is the key message to break this life pattern: “If you have to live in fear, it's best to die at the hands of a goodbye. To your sad life, foolish martyr, say goodbye”.

Grammy Award winning artist Alessia Cara is more of a sultry soulful Pop singer/songwriter. She and The Warning share the same international agent who suggested that she collaborate with TW. So with very little time, TW jumped at the opportunity and arranged, recorded the music and vocals, and shot the video; all in less than a week!

And I love how they were able to capture and deliver the passion in Martirio. While reading the translated English lyrics, I can imagine the global impact this song is going to have. What an epic song!

Yay it's Mrs Heretic! Oh and David...lol. I was first again! This is the most original cover if this you'll ever hear. Mrs Heretic has a point it is a bit sterile, the video. Did you notice... they faded in the way Metallica faded out, and had more or less ended the way Metallica started? In dust to dust I think Ale was 13 or 14. Great spotlight on Pau's vocals here! Dani with the Hispanic influenced conclusion really showed through. I can see Mrs Heretic's point about interaction especially compared with Survive. With Martirio (thank you!) It doesn't really matter it's in Spanish, it's one of those songs that's sorta cryptic, ambiguous. In Spanish the lyricism of the song really shines. I hear a European Spanish musical influence here. Very good Mrs Heretic and Mr Heretic! You got that the song is at least partially about people isolating themselves, martyring themselves. Great Score! This song has been several years evolving, it was mainly written several years ago, and rearranged several times. They were much younger when it was concieved, Choke and Evolve came from a more sophisticated songwriting perspective. And yes Mrs Heretic, from your viewpoint I absolutely agree. That's not contradictory, it's different perspective. Thank you both for this special treat, I look forward to seeing you again Mrs. Heretic. Enjoy the show folks!

This was a regular ying and yang fest. I find myself square in the middle of you two. I pay attention to the music, to the point it makes sense to me and is appealing. Being The Warning are, to me, also a visual experience, I also pay close attention to the show; whether it be antics, props, or other visual effects. I must admit I was eagerly looking forward to seeing David hear that soaring vocal burst from Dany. I am happy to report, he reacted just they way I'd hoped... eyes widened, brows up, wow.
Mrs. H., once again, you were a hoot! Take it easy on your hubby though, as, I'm sure, he is quite entertaining on stage. He says she moves like Gene. She basically does, but Gene's more slinky and snake-like. She does it with a certain cool panache that Gene never could. I will throw in here, Gene played The Whisky, for the first time, two weeks after this show. This show was on January 24, 2019. KISS played their first gig there on February 11, 2019.

Great reaction! I agree with most of the comments. The only one that surprises me a bit is Mrs Heretics mention of lack of crowd interaction or the girls not interacting/standing close enough. IDK, I think their one of the best live performers out there. But other than that we are in the same page! 😃👍🏻

Here's a take on the video. Between Light and Dark ( that being the beginning of the video) the elements are. Blue for water ( emotions) Fire (rebirth) Air (symbolized by the blowing wind - spirit that moves us) and they're standing on the Earth ( grounded in who they are). Also it creates a theme with their song Evolve

Did Dany touch into her head voice in Martirio? I've been waiting with bated breath for her to be more comfortable singing north of her passaggio in their hard rock songs. I've heard her do it over her acoustic guitar late at night during her midnight "Dany Day" videos, and her head voice is absolutely beautiful!!!
I didn't notice any transition into head voice, so if she did she did it very smoothly. It was powerful and supported, so I'm thinking chest voice....but then again it might have just gone blend with power and support extremely smoothly.

They inverted the song...the classic heavy riff ending it and the softer making form to the song, when u know that the softer parts are at the end in the original song it's classy and just in 7 days it's mind-blowing.

Great, fun reaction. I was waiting for Sandman and Martirio and I saw Dust to Dust included. Nice, that was my vote in the poll! They did a great job on the cover in making it their own. I think Martirio is over the top and will grow on you more and more. There's going to be a big sing-along at the end of that song live too!!!! I love that bass part in Martirio too, that stood out to me on the first listen. I commented to David Bendeth on his Facebook post about Martirio and got a response.

We really worked on the Bass in this song as we had a lot of room to stretch out. Ale figured out what she wanted to play, and executed it perfectly. Most of this was done in pre-production.

So their cover of Enter Sandman is the flip side of the original. Their version of the song starts where the original ends (take my hand...) and ends where the original starts. You could almost set the two on a loop together.

The only thing I have to disagree on is that the girls need to have more interaction with each other and be in close proximity to each other. Don't forget that these are sisters; they live in the same house and even share the same bedroom; they interact daily. So I don't believe they need to do more interaction and be close together on stage.

"Martirio" cannot be appreciated without appreciating how the narrative of the lyrics matches the imagery of the video, or how prophetically relevant it is to today's reality. Like "Narcisista", it is a strong rebuke to a certain person. In this case, those who martyred themselves to an unworthy cause (by playing it "safe" in their own mind, rather than fight?) and suffer the consequences of an unnecessary and fruitless death. The gist of the song can be wrapped up in the following line prior to Dani's agonic wail: "Tu vida triste, Martir tonto, di 'Adiós'." (To your sad life, stupid martyr, say "goodbye".) Also, the video provides a dramatic illustration through the fire circles of the theme of demise or death/execution by immolation in a prechorus line: "Ya no hay vuelta atrás. No puedes escapar el fuego a tus pies." (There is no longer any turning back. You can't escape the fire at your feet.) So Dave was right, the circle forms a barrier through which the martyr cannot escape.
However, Mrs. Heretic wins kudos for her spot on observation that the colors worn by the characters in the video mean something. In this case, I deduce that the white gowns are worn by the martyrs and represent their false innocence, facing a dreadful fate due to their mistargeted loyalty. (see the look of dread on Pau's face while kneeling in the circle in fear of certain death.) The ones in the black robes with the torches are the executioners, ready to impose the consequences of the choice to be a martyr. The girls in dark green playing the song are the storytellers providing the narration of the sad and needless demise of the misdirected martyrs. Could the dark green symbolize the residual fertility/benefit of heeding the warning of playing it safe rather than engaging in a struggle, or being a false martyr?
Like 21st Century Blood, the song hits home with observers of what is going on in today's society. Even though it was written and first preformed pre-COVID in 2019, those who stubbornly adhere to the directives of the political/religious/cultural charlatans who panned the advice of the medical expert to socially distance, wear a mask, and get vaccinated, suffer the consequences of an unexpected (in their own mind) and gruesome demise alone (in the desert) and inevitable horrific death. They thought it the safe thing to maintain the approval of their herd in support of the charlatan and became misguided martyrs. So, Dave, your wife was right, the fact that you missed the narration due to the language barrier affected the score. Had you understood the profundity of the lyrics, you'd have rated this song as high as "Choke" , and appreciated the more etheral vibe of the tune in contrast to the energetic banger that is "Evolve".

So i just noticed after listening for the umpteeth time. Dave did you catch Alé's bassline in the second and third chorus? Its actually the main riff off the outro
