  • I have always found this style of machine intriguing so I got one and here is what i learned.
    Most importantly I figured how to thread it and adjust the various aspects of the threading path for good performance. This unit has some interesting and unique features. Follow along as I touch on the high points.

    Thank you for sharing this well made video about this inovative sewing machine. Of cause the rotary take-up lever is special. But I think the way you thread the machine going counter clockwise around thread guides is interesting. It is not that often you see that, but it should make kinks on thread less likely. Furthermore this special roller tensioner with ekstra grib is special. I have not seen a close up picture of this before, and I hope, that I am allowed by you to take a screenshot of it, that I can use. Roller tensioners do also reduce thread twisting and therefore reduce the chance of kinks.

    Enjoyed your video and I hope that you will enjoy using your rotary Singer 457G135. - I love all of the machines with a rotary uptake and have used an old and rather rare rotary machine made by Juki for years. - I also use a smaller straight stitch Singer 451K145 that is also rotary. - Once again, enjoy your machine and the more you use it, you will become "hooked" on this type of machine.

    Hello, I have a 457u105, basically the same machine, and I'm having difficulty checking the timing of the machine. Could lower the needle bar to it's lowest position and share where the hook is in relation to the needle? There is also a zero mark on the black rotary marks; when the rotary mark is lined up with the 0 wth the line through it, the hook should be on center to the needle. Unfortunately, mine is not that way. So, I'm not sure where to begin with checking the needle bar height, which affects the timing of the hook. The Singer service manual is not written clearly, at least without understanding the writers lingo.

    hook is rotary or oscilliating? I have pfaff 418-716/06, with rotary hook and I hate it. I bought it for sail repairs, but it sucks when sewing adhesive tape.

    • @AlexanderDyer
      @AlexanderDyer  Před 7 lety +1

      It is a rotary hook. I have not used adhesive tape but I have sewn with stick on Velcro and that stuff made a mess with glue getting on the needle and gumming up the works. I have heard of sail makers using this machine but it is just a drop feed after all and so feeding big sails could be difficult. This may be better suited for ultralight and kite builders.

  • @cancelik
    @cancelik Před 6 lety

    Can you try to sew light fabric with duct tape on? I have already bought this machine, she can sew light fabrics with ultra speed but it sucks when sewing with duct tape. I have a Pfaff 418 and no problem with adhesive tape. But this machine's rotary hook is very confusing, I can't understand what the problem is. Hook is catching the loop twice when the loop leaves the fabric.

    • @AlexanderDyer
      @AlexanderDyer  Před 6 lety

      I can't try because I don't have this machine any longer. Not all tape is the same and if the adhesive is gumming up the thread, that could definitely cause some headache. I have never sewn with duct tape but I did sew on some adhesive Hook and Loop that caused problems due to the adhesive getting on the thread and the needle. I tend to use clips or just carefully hold my work as I go. Here are a couple of videos that show what I mean.

    The rotary take-up have got a bit worried, so I should like your opinion. A normal take-up lever have got a very well defined top position and timing of it. This will ensure a little variation of the position of the thread lock in the fabric so a balanced stitch can be ensured. What I am worried about is, that the top position is not that well defined on the rotary take-up, because the thread might be at more positions along the edge of this lever.

    Willcox and Gibbs patented the rotary tension device in 1908 with world wide patents 1910. Singer jumped in after it had expired. Just like Davis NVF, New Vertical Feed was a superior machine in the 1800's by 1924 when they ceased Singer came out with the 78 series (an industrial version of the Davis). I've seen the Willcox and Gibbs on ebay very vintage but shied away from buying one. Possibly the zig zag combined with rotary take up was a German thing just like the 1913 German treadle had reverse. Singer usually late in the game on advancements.

      Thanks. I would not want to be a teacher, those people are saints. I do have some instructional experience in a previous life.😉
