Got mine yesterday and am using it today! this is my 4th smoker/bbq and it's amazing! thanks to all involved.
After a couple of years without a grill, I've been trying to decide to go back to Gas or spend the money for a Pellet grill. A friend told me about the Gravity feeder, so I checked it out spending a few weeks comparing all the Pros and Cons. Decided on the Char-Griller 980 and ordered mine online last week. It will be delivered by Friday, just in time for the weekend. I can't wait.
Well hells bells, 5 grills and NOW I'm looking at 6! Damn it guys have a heart!

Big shipment hitting stores this week and next!
Trying to do a burn off and season, and I’m noticing my temps goes about 100 degrees higher than the set temp. I set it at 350 and it continues to climb well into the 400s. Any suggestions? Thanks
Still waiting on mine to get up and running. I've already had the wrong replacement part sent and now it appears the sensors are out when i fired it up to season it. I'm at the point of taking it back and going back to a Giant Weber Kettle that doesn't have all the electronic issues this model seems to have.
What do you do to the grill when you’re first operating it
I just bought my 980 and I 've not been able to get the temp over 400 degrees. First time I only half filled the hopper with charcoal. Second time it was filled to the top. Theres plenty of heat from the fire box but it's not all making it into the grill. What could be causing this issue? Yes the damper thing has been moved out
Lowes in asheboro NC don't have any. Kearnersville nc is the closest and its over 100 miles rd trip. After i watched Richard myers cook on this grill i want one.

I've been to Lowes and Menards for this grill and they both say they aren't available nor can they be ordered. Can you point us in the right direction to get this grill?

@@Char-Griller - Thank you. I am glad I stumbled on this unit. I had been seriously considering a MasterBuilt, not knowing that Char-Griller had one as well. Hopefully, they will be back in stock soon. I have notifications set up in multiple places :).

Sadly my Char Griller 980’has been an expensive failure after thinking I did all of the proper research.
Initially some electronics failed but the parts were available and easily replaced.
Than the door sensor failed when out of warranty. A new sensor was sent but it’s really impossible to replace the sensor without completely somehow taking the whole unit apart. Even where to begin with that is impossible to see.
So my Char Griller 980 sits on my deck unusable. When I contacted CharGriller to track down someone to repair it their response was go back to Lowe’s. Pretty $hitty response

doesn't seem like you'd be able to get a decent sear with the coals not directly under the meat.
DONT BUY: I bought this grill in lowes. 3 weeks later an error came up. The fan stopped working, lowes replace the grill, 4 weeks later the controller stopped working, called char-grill and they send me the part.. today December 2021, 3 months later, the sensor of the doors are stuck in open.. it doesn’t work.. I’m so pissed I can’t even write this review.. 3 grills - 3 fucking grills, I have fix this grill like you have no idea.. I know this grill by now like no one else. It sucks m, I’ve cut myself, I’ve disassemble it and assemble it like 20 times.. At this point screw this grill… Ain’t dealing with this grill anymore. I lost $700 and I don’t even care at this point.. what a headache this grill turn out to be

Should have gotten a Masterbuilt.
I have had mine for over a year with no issues and incredible cooks!
@Beaver1969 owned by char griller, so I can't imagine master built is much better.
this thing is an overly complicated pos my afamily bought me one and what a waste of money if anything goes wrong with you you got a wortlhess hunk of metal
