I am deaf and would like to thank you for the closed captions. I just found out my cat is diabetic and am researching, in addition to what my vet told me.
Is your cat still alive
I know this is a very old video, but thank you so much. I watched it 5 times before giving my 13 year old cat his shot. I was so nervous and this was very helpful. Max and I thank you 💕
Have just fostered a diabetic cat and this has been the most helpful vid yet. Thanks muchly
Pressley is doing WONDERFUL! I took him to the vet to get his sugar checked 1 1/2 weeks ago and his sugar had gone from 420 to 89!!! They cut back his insulin one unit so Im hoping and praying that he is able to keep decreasing it each time we go. I am giving him prescription food and cut all treats out too. He does great for the most part with the injections and I am pretty comfortable giving them to him now too. Thanks so much for asking! Thats very kind of you to ask about him!
ik im replying to your comment thats 4 years old but has your cat ever fainted while doing this for a while im just asking because the vet said it might happen
I had to give my cat (12 years old) his first insulin shot yesterday. Very scary at first, but I think I've got the hang of it.
Same here. Luckily my cat is patient and doesn't try to fight with me when it's time for his shot.
My cat is also 12, his first shot is tomorrow I’m scared 😓
That is the prettiest red tabby i may have ever seen, and so calm. my only caveat is I have been told over and over again NOT to adminsister insulin in the nape of the neck. BUT the tent method is awesome anywhere else.
My kitty was just diagnosed with diabetes and Im learning how to give him injections. Thanks for this video! -- Heather
Thank you so much for this invaluable information! Clear and concise and easy to understand. I just successfully gave my cat her first insulin shot and it was a very smooth experience. I can't Thank you enough
Fantastic! Thank you for the positive feedback! So happy your kitty is in good hands!
thank you for the video. So sorry DuchessvonAhlefeldt lost her cat, so young. Our tuxedo was diagnosed almost three years ago, and still doing well. This helped me find another place to put needle, vet neglected to tell me about. thanks.
Just back from the vet with one of my cats. Vet suspects he's diabetic - just waiting on the blood results to confirm so I will probably have to do this. I already have to give my adult son EPO injections in the back of his arm (he's just had a kidney transplant) so not afraid to give injections, just wanted to know how to do it in a cat. I am sure my vet will show me anyway. Thank you for this very informative video.
Thank you for your concern, but I'm afraid to say that my cat's diabetes (she was only 3 and so vets found it strange for her to have it) was only a symptom of a much larger, unknown problem. On Thursday she had become anaemic and yesterday she had so little of her own blood left, and no diagnoses of what was causing it, that we had to put her to sleep. She was in no pain, but she was simply slipping away from us with little chance of recovery.
🐾💔🐾
Yes, the cat is beautiful!
VetVid hey I was wonder, when inserting the needle, i Pull the plunger back to see if blood is drawn before injecting the insulin right?? Cause you said if you see blood when pulling it back, to use a new syringe and start again, but if no blood is drawn, I continue and inject the insulin right? I want to make sure before i decide to go through with the process. I don’t want to inject two doses of insulin n have her overdose 😅
Glad to find this; one of my cats has just been diagnosed with diabetes. I have to go to the vet tomorrow for the insulin and equipment.
I forgot to check for blood in syringe, hope my cat will be ok! Trying to relearn all this, she had diabetes years ago then went into remission and now it’s back.
Looking at a senior cat with diabetes to possibly adopt, this is really helpful since I was nervous about that should I adopt him.
I give my cat a treat after her jab and so she looks forward to it! Anyone new to having a diabetic cat, it really is as easy as shown here and the needle is so sharp, sometimes I wonder if it's gone in and feel the fur for wetness but I haven't missed yet!
Hey so I’m new to this, and I was wondering, when he says to pull the plunger back to see if there’s any blood drawn, I pull it back before injecting the insulin to see if blood is drawn right? And if it is drawn then just throw it away n use a new one. But if no blood is drawn, then I continue with the process and inject the insulin right?
David Do Yo Dance you don't have to pull back the needle, my vet never told us to and I ended up getting a second opinion from another vet ( first vet had a really thick accent and there was a bit of a language barrier ) I hope it's easy for you and your cat, because it's been a nightmare for me and mine. She hates it, she feels the needle almost every time, she gets aggressive every time it's shot time. People who have cats who just lay there and are obedient, congrats haha not every cat is the same though and not all towel trick or food distraction tricks work.
From what I've been seeing in these old videos and comments is the pulling the syringe back is an out dated method, since you're not injecting into a vein, but under the skin. The chances of hitting a blood vessel is extremely low.
@Patrick Bateman that’s good to hear! Just did my first injection and forgot to check for blood. Luckily for me, my cat is really chill and easy to give injections to. I feel for you, if my one other cat got diabetes it’d be a nightmare.
Millie M sorry to hear about the diabetes but happy things are at least going smooth. Here's hoping your baby goes into remission and can eventually get off injections! Unfortunately I had to surrender my baby to a no-kill cat sanctuary to be taken care of, since I wasn't able to be consistent at home...broke my damn heart, and I'm sure hers too...but if I kept her, even if she was happy, it would be selfish of me...This way she at least gets a second chance at life. She was too young to just let die, she's 8, not quite an old cat yet. At this sanctuary she could live another 7 years or so potentially...I'm hoping when Covid dies down I can visit her soon. Only been about a month and a half but feels like forever. Still shocked at how she got diabetes in the first place. Never free fed, and gave her Hills Science Diet, that stuff is supposed to be healthy. Maybe it was her lack of exercise though. She's a very anxious cat, and when I'm at work spends most of the day sleeping in my room till I get home, even though she has loads of toys and a whole house to explore and play in. Just not fair, I know so many people who have indoor cats they free-feed garbage food and are 100x fatter, yet they get to live past 14 with no problems :(
@Patrick Bateman sorry to hear about your cat 😞 It is hard taking care of a diabetic cat even if they take the injections well. Luckily my cat went into remission for the 2nd time after only like a month of insulin. It’s strange my cat got diabetes too because she’s always been at a good weight and pretty active/playful. I did feed them dry food and canned food once a day, but now I’m doing only canned food. I hope she’ll stay in remission. Hope you get to see your kitty again soon. At least you found a good no kill shelter.
Dr. Mike I need to take my cat to vet psych. :/ It be nice to know more info the psych version of taking care of your cat.
Can I throw the syringes in a normal sharps container for humans once done? I have hypoglycemia and that's why I have a lot already.
It seems like the needle would go through one fold of the skin and hit the other fold. Or it would go down the middle into air space. Can't find a diagram
The vet said make sure I don’t draw back air or blood from the skin. I’m confused on what the syringe should do when I draw back then? Like what’s going into it? Water? Or should the syringe just not draw back?
So when inserting the needle, i Pull the plunger back to see if blood is drawn before injecting the insulin right?? Cause you said if you see blood when pulling it back, to use a new syringe and start again. I want to make sure before i decide to go through with the process. I don’t want to inject two doses of insulin n have her overdose 😅
Never inject the insulin if you see blood. Only inject if there is no blood seen. Never inject twice. If you are not sure if it went in properly, call your veterinarian. If you are unable to reach a veterinarian, wait until the next dose is due.
ouch!
I asked my vet if my cat had diabetic neuropathy from the steroids. He said that diabetes is the trade off for steroids and insulin is a hassle. He continued giving her 40mg depomedrol injections every 2 weeks until she died.
I was already giving her daily B12 injections, it doesn’t seem much different.
Noodle and I thank you
Glad it helped!
I am also a dibetik
I am looking after my daughter's diabetic cat for a few days. The cat will not allow me to approach it for its insulin shots. If I get close it hisses and runs away. Daughter will be back in a couple of days. Should I be more aggressive, give the cat a treat, wrap it in blankets or just let it be till she returns.
I hope you didn't skip its insulin shots! A diabetic cat can die very quickly without it.
@@dasaniwolf8902 after 2 days I was able to give it it's 2 daily shots
I'm having this problem too. How did you solve it?
@@DR-mq1vn gave the shot while it meditated on the balcony
My cat keeps backing away. I'm afraid I'm missing the spot.
Some kitties are not easy. Best to have your veterinarian try with you present. Each cat is different and therefore the technique may change
Stop hurting your cat 🤦🏻♀️
@@kalijasin I'm trying to figure it out. Got any ideas?
💚💕💕💚💚💕💟
It's not that easy with my cat.
Hoping it gets easier. Your vet may have helpful ideas as well.
@1:15 = I am *literally* LOL at the terrified pose that poor cat is striking there....just LOLOLOL, awwwhhhhh - poor thing is just frozen in fear! I've had cats all my life and can read their body language pretty well - in the previous scene he's all normal and alert looking, then @1:15 comes and he's all frightened half to death, his ears are back, eyes all squinty *smh* poor thing! but still making me laugh for some reason....
GOD words can never go back in void he said that there is a dew time for everything and this word kept me going, ontill I found dr igho on CZcams channel who finally brings the word come to pass in my cats life. Thank you dr igho for putting an end to my diabetes
What exactly is there to 'lol' at? My cat was just diagnosed with diabetes today, I see nothing funny about it.
Lol
Diabeetus

soneelita My cat Himalayan cats born 6 junior by Caesarean section and was very tired and did not care about them because they are so tired, but she came after 3 days and never focused on the last and died 5

POOR CAT
Why can't veterinarians say the word veterinarian? LOL!
Just let evolution kick in
MJ4everTheKing hopefully there will be less people like you around when evolution kicks in.
thinking about a cat with diabetes is just hilarious XDDDD
mikhaeldh its not hilarious. It's as serious for a cat as it is a human. Apparently you need an education on diabetes.
I know this is old, but theres nothing hilarious about it. You're a piece of sh*t. Why did you even watch this video?
I hope you get diabetes and we'll see if you still think it's funny you ignorant fuck.
its literally not hilarious.
Nothing funny about it. You have to love your cat. We hate giving her the shots, but we either do it or let her die. Also, for past 9 years we haven't been able to go anywhere. No one is interested in giving injections twice a day... it seems. She is now 12 years old.
