  • The Thresher shark may very well be the strangest looking shark in the world, with a tail almost as long as its body. This shark is very rare, almost never seen by divers....until now. Using advanced diving technology, Jonathan visits a remote reef in the Philippines where Thresher sharks show up every morning to be cleaned by small fish.

I think you're the first to actually do a commentary on Threshers! I've never seen a TV program do one on these for some reason. I know they're rare, but I didn't think they would be as difficult to get on camera in contrast to rarer sharks (ie. Goblins).

This is one of the most beautiful & special creatures that exists on our planet. It deserves fully protected status. Who knows even what damage the catch & release fishing of this species may be causing. Not to mention the consequences of fishing them out just because they have larger fins. The Whitetip Oceanic is another shark seriously endangered by overfishing, as well as Blue Sharks. These deep ocean sharks that live far out to sea are the cleaners of the wider oceans, as well as being apex predators in their environments.
We continue to over fish & pollute the ocean at our peril. Somehow, it must be stopped. The general populations of this planet need to take these issues very seriously & demand change or we won't have a home. A few will destroy it for us all.

i agree with you it is recorded that Puerto Rico, China and mostly taiwan has over catch the Shark for its Fins because of demand of Fin soup. yet they care what is the effect of their over fish. they ignored the consequences of their action. if the shark extinct due to over fishing it will kill also the other sea creature. i am guessing they have no idea about it, what they only think is making money.

I keep coming back to this video because this is my favourite, and also one of the firsts I've seen from BlueworldTV. The past few days I've been diving in Malapascua and was also fortunate to see these thresher sharks. They are so beautiful 😍 and because of the pandemic there weren't a lot of divers. In fact, I think there were more sharks than divers during my 3 dives. They swam above, below, and next to us, closest must be around 8ft. They didn't seem spooked that much and I tried to control my breathing but how could you breathe normally when something this stunning was floating above you. Ahhh I can't stop talking about it lol. I also did nitrox course while I was there. We didn't see the manta ray and the octopus but we saw one or two white tip sharks.
Thank you again for inspiring us to dive! Before this video I had no idea what thresher sharks were or that they could be found in the Philippines.

I learned so many things just by watching your videos! I appreciate all your efforts to introduce to us many things about the blue world! It just amazes me and this made me realize that we really need to take care of all sea creatures so we won’t lose them and the next generation will get the chance to see what you just discovered! 😍😍😍

I can see a lot on the safety stop, especially on Monad Shoal, best visibility of all my dives, we saw things clearly from the boat 30 meters down. Saw 5 thresher sharks on our 1 dive there. Gato Island was the best dive though.

Not only that the sharks there parked like planes sleeping on the bottom and then others swimming around the rock formations made for epic scenery.
