  • The Landmark mall opened in 1965 and closed on January 31, 2017. Originally an outdoor mall, it was enclosed in 1990. Once inside I started hearing banging I knew I wasn't alone. Turns out there was a construction crew inside preparing for work. There was a guy walking around looking for hazardous materials, We chatted briefly and then continued on.

It is really so sad to see do many once thriving malls ending up like this now. Whenever I come across any videos of anyone walking through a totally dead and abandoned mall that was once a thriving place, I sometimes envision myself going to a nearby abandoned mall, somehow getting in, and walking around, remembering the mall's best days. Then seeing the mall totally empty, not one store left, like a ghost town, makes me feel like crying. I really do not know how the people shooting these videos are getting into the malls, if they are obviously locked up. At first, I would not mind being by myself, but then, only in my dreams, somebody very nice and compassionate comes along, and you and she are the only ones in the whole mall, and you can share your feelings with one another. With the electricity obviously turned off, after the sun goes down, it gets pitch dark inside, do obviously you would have to leave before it got dark outside, and, if it does not bring you to tears, bid farewell to the mall, as it is only a matter of time before it is demolished.

The internet & the pandemic are what killed most of the malls.

@@Urbex_Offlimits 41 years ago, my mom took me to the San Jacinto Mall in Baytown, Texas which is near Houston on the day it first opened. I was real little at the time & it was the place. 2 years ago it closed & only left 2 stores left to stay open which were Macy's & JCPenney which they've closed too recently. The JCPenney closed this last November & the Macy's closed this last February leaving the whole building completely abandoned waiting to be demolished for some other new shopping centers they plan on building there. I've had a lot of great memories visiting it with my family back in the days when I was a child.
