I think having a magnet and an electric current in his arm is bound to cause serious neurological damage to his nerves.
No. People get mri scans all the time and those are massive electromagnets. Nothing in our bodies are affected by magnets. We have trace amounts of metals like iron but they are too microscopic to be pulled even by an infinitely strong magnetic field. As for the electric current, it takes the path of least resistance which would be the copper coil and wire in his arm, beyond that the electricity wouldn't stray from that course even in the slightest.
@@DrakeOola thanks for the explanation. Very direct and informative
@@DrakeOola
> As for the electric current, it takes the path of least resistance which would be the copper coil and wire in his arm, beyond that the electricity wouldn't stray from that course even in the slightest.
If the wires are insulated, sure, because the insulation has massive resistance. If they're not, no.
Electricity doesn't follow only a single path. A voltage (i.e. electric potential) differential will push electricity down _all_ paths available towards lower voltage, just like pressurized air will leak through a porous container or pipe even if it's given a clear flow path. Assuming the load is mostly at the end of the wire (at the hand), the entire wire segments through the arm will hold the full potential difference, and current can leak through the tissue in between as a result (which is surprisingly conductive, since most of the body's electric resistance is in dry skin, not the electrolyte-filled tissue within).
Note that this is kinda moot given the other liberties the movie takes anyway. Electromagnets produce magnetic fields at the coil, not at "positive and negative electrodes"; the power consumption required to maintain a large field (and the resulting heat generated, even without leakage) would be massive without superconductors, and many things shown being manipulated aren't really responsive to magnetism to begin with.
@@DrakeOola Also the Iron in our blood is chemically bound in a way that makes it slightly repellent to magnetic fields
Nerves are not affected by magnetism. His problems are more likely to come from either sepsis due to the foreign objects in his flesh (which is why he keeps cleaning pus around the should area) and heat from the resistance of the wires that would burn him as he strengthens the devices output..
Controls metal objects and such
Him: You know, I am something of a magneto myself

It's a literary device. "The Goddess." It's a character in the story that marks the point where the hero crosses the threshold into another world. Here, like most time, marks the introduction of "magic" into the story. Yes, the professor already introduced Bo to "magic," but that was before this arc of the story, and different arcs can follow the same structures.
After meeting with "The Goddess," Bo is granted an upgrade to his "powers" so he can face the challenges ahead. It's classic story telling.

Funny thing about bullets... they aren't magnetic. They are lead jacketed in copper. Neither is magnetic. A magnetic field would induce eddy currents in a bullet traveling through it but for it to stop a bullet through eddy current resistance it would have to be a field so strong you'd have so much ferromagnetic stuff flying at you, you'd certainly die from that. Many magnitudes more then what would be required for a ferromagnetic projectile at those velocities.
