    June 2016 IKEA issued a recall on the Malm dressers. If anyone chooses to do this make sure you check IKEA's site to match your serial numbers to the listed recalls. Great video though and i'll definitely be trying this with a 2 drawer model as i'm fairly short! :)

    What type of bed frame did you use?

  • @TheREALOC1972
    @TheREALOC1972 Před rokem

    I built mine from a dresser I bought from a garage sale for $15, a night stand I bought from Goodwill for $3 and a 3/4" piece of plywood and 3 8' 2x4's. I used the dresser as the foot board the night stand as the corner post, cut one of the 2x4's in half and screwed them to the wall for the framing of the other 2 sides, cut the 2nd 2x4 in half as the center posts under the bed then cut holes in them and used a shower curtain inbetween the center posts to create a Closet under the bed and used the left over wood to build legs to raise the night stand then used the 3rd 2x4 as a brace between the back of the dresser and the night stand and then painted the whole thing Barn Wood Red. Monetarily speaking I have right about $75 into my platform bed and 1/3 of that was for the paint.

    Okay so I have a question. I am still living with my mom, and I've recently switched rooms and let's say it's a total disaster. My bed frame completely broke, and the box springs and so now I have 2 twin box springs and a queen mattress and let me tell you there isn't any room for hardly anything else. But I do want a bedframe and pull some of these things together. How would you suggest that I start on this?

  • @ajewachichester882
    @ajewachichester882 Před 7 lety

    The mattress is mainly supported by the 4 by 4 wood blocks? Is that sturdy enough? I saw that the large malm dressers weren't attached to each other at the end, is it safe to say they won't budge/ move even of they are aggressively pushed?
    If anyone has answers, thanks and great video. I'm highly considering doing this project

    • @PatrickAdairDesigns
      @PatrickAdairDesigns  Před 7 lety

      +Ajewa Chichester the 4x4 should provide all the support you need and should be very sturdy if made properly. I don't have my dressers attached together so things can move around a bit, but I don't think it's a safety concern and it hasn't been a problem for me. Hope that helps!

    This is cool but as a DIY CZcams channel, I'm pretty sure including the steps is something people would appreciate and expect. For people who are new to doing this kind of thing, I don't think it's very self-explanatory to be honest.
