Nice job... I grew up salmon fishing in monterey as a kid... FYI, you will loose that salmon to a sea lion if they see it... Gotta find a place on board for that fish...

I went out on a Salmon charter a few weeks ago.......biggest skunk trip of my life. I'll take all the help I can get. Got my vote for a video on your set up. I'm especially interested in seeing how you rig up your anchovies.

Depends on the year but for kayaks it is usually later in the season because that is when they come within paddling range.

Yep! I live in a condo and store the kayak behind my parking space. It is definitely a tight fit to say the least, lol

It is a 9 foot G Loomis rod. Really light and has good action for bringing in these salmon!
How do you get your gear down to depth? I don't see down rigger or diver. Cool set up!
The easiest way is to use a downrigger, that is what I use for all my trolling nowadays

It is an old model and I don't think they sell it anymore. But if you could find another 9 foot medium action salmon rod that should do the trick!

Just stumbled on this video and gave it a like. It is great to see a young man catch a fish from a yak. I wonder how you would fish if there were no plastic bait harnesses available. I have been fishing for salmon for 37 years out from Sausalito and have never used a plastic bait harness like a crippled anchovy, FBR, or RSK. . What would you do if they were not available?
Maybe try another technique, like fishing straight up with the anchovy.
Are you hinting at using stuck bait? It seems almost no private boats or yaks use stuck bait

That looks too high to me. Reminds me the moment I sunk my outfitter earlier this year. I now have an outback, but the water is not nearly high as yours. Do you get much water inside after each trip?
It must be because I have a little more weight in the kayak than I should. I don't get very much water on the inside.
Okay, as long as you know it is safe. Yeah, I dont put anything inside of the hull other than my FF battery. Even tho they advertise you can store things inside, but that air space is much needed in order not to lose any capacity overall.
Yeah I only put my fish finder battery and a little tackle in the hull. I don't want to add any unnecessary weight in there
Can you use salmon egg with a bobber
That is more of a freshwater technique. I don't think it would work too well in the ocean.

Do some research and make sure it is sea worthy. If so, then make sure you get all the safety gear. There are a ton of videos on CZcams to see what you need!

Your best bet without a boat/kayak is to hop on a charter boat. There are several good ones in the bay area. They can show you the basics on what gear to use.
