I have been thinking about building pedalboard myself. I am sufficiently familiar with Arduino and general electronics too. So, electronic part of it shouldn't be too big of a problem. But here you just demonstrated what things can possibly to go wrong with mechanical part and you gave plenty of ideas how to build it better way. If I ever be able to start my own pedalboard project, I will let you know about the outcomes. Video you created is really useful and inspiring :)
neee nicht erster kommentar, aber dein erster konstruktiver ;) es war nicht mein ziel die anschlagsdynamik vom kalvier zu übernehmen. tatsächlich werden bei orgel bedalen aber andere federn verwendet. aber das mit den stiften ist schonmal ne gute idee. das könnte die konstruktion deutlich vereinfachen. da brauch ich nur eine bohrung die in eine richtung etwas geweitet ist und alu stäbchen innen.. ich glaub ich probier das.
freut mich, dass ich mit einem seltenen Geistesblitz kurzzeitig in Deine Spaeren aufsteigen konnte, und Du gnaedig ueber meine Bemerkung urteilst. Dieser Kommentar ist hauptsaechlich ein Test ob ich Google+ brauche, um auch weiterhin Deine Videos fuer andere verstaendlich zu machen.
Ha, wieder erster Kommentar - es ist mir eine Ehre! Klaviertasten werden glaube ich auf Holzstifte gesetzt (anstatt jede einzelne von beiden Seiten einzugrenzen). Und die sind auch so ausgelegt, dass die Schwerkraft beim Zuruechstellen nachhilft, jedenfalls werden da nicht so Riesenfedern faellig. Ausserdem ist im Klavier ziemlich viel Filz verbaut. Du koenntest das Holz noch aufhuebschen und (in zwei verschiedenen Farben) lasieren, ansonsten kommt bald der Holzwurm rein.
What a wonderful job. It must have been very difficult to undertake such a difficult project with no guidance available. I have suggestions although it was so long ago it might not matter. 1. On the hinges, cheap possible fix is wrap the hinge with electrical tape very tightly at the actual hinge point. It may also stiffen the action somewhat. Or try spraying the hinges with foam insulation... Not too sure about that. The hinges could be shimmed although that would be quite difficult. 2. Key side 'play' can be improved with felt and the noise will be attenuated as well. 3. The spring being bottomed out can be addressed by drilling a hole to countersink the spring below the bar. Given the point that the spring bottoms out proves the tension is likely not too strong although it may seem so in testing. Playing will prove it out. 3. The silicone stopper can be adjusted by adding a washer under it, effectively raising it without needing to redo the mold. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and although I will not build this, I expect to pursue other MIDI experiments. Thanks for the inspiration. Cheers, and all the best, Pete
Hinge and coil spring noise noise was a problem with others who tried this. On my commercial organ I opened up the pedal board and they use a leaf spring attached to the rear of the each pedal. That secures each pedal, provides the friction and return spring action. But you have given some good ideas like the pedal guides.
Ja ... der Gedanke an die Nachbarn untendrunter treibt wohl jedem Heim-Organisten mit Basspedal die Schreckensbleiche ins Gesicht. Ich will auch ein altes Analog-Pedal midifizieren und werde es vielleicht auch noch ein bisschen mechanisch abändern und alles, was aus Gummi konstruierbar ist, aus Gummi machen. Interessant übrigens, dass die überlieferte Bauform des Basspedals aus den Notwendigkeiten der Mechanik von Pfeifenorgeln kommt und als reines MIDI-Pedal heute auch vollkommen anders gebaut werden könnte, womöglich sogar ganz ohne bewegliche Teile, z.B. nur als Matte mit kapazitiven Annäherungskontakten oder dergleichen.
Ich würd auf die Federn einfach einmal komplett Heißkleber spritzen und dieses gummi hätte man auch mal oben probieren können, wieso nur unten? Vlt hilft Heißkleber auch bei den Gelänkdingens?
Hinges? Horizontal rods? Ball bearings? Why don't you just look at how pedalboards have been made for centuries and do it that way? If you put the pivot point of the pedal in front of the foot, the heel will have to press the pedal down further than the toe which is the opposite of how feet work.
If you've watched the whole series you'd see that's just not how he thinks. lol. I went with a used pedalboard for my project because they are so easy to get for cheap or even free.

Is it possible to just have a switch type contact mechanism without aftertouch effects and magnets+sensors?
