    Great Video! One thing that helped me immensely in getting the side trays on (and yes, that fold out tray is GREAT!) was I used a tapered punch as an alignment tool to get everything oriented to get the bolts through.
    The other thing was before I tightened everything up was to give it a good shake/twist of the entire cart to take any stresses out before cinching it up. That really helped and didn't have any problems getting the drawers back in or anything else.

      Good news is that your wish is about to be answered. The 72" Series 2 box and top chest are on clearance. I suspect that it's to make way for the new Series 3 in slate gray and top hutch that were introduced at SEMA.

    • @PaganWizard
      @PaganWizard Před rokem

      @@DaleLucid I seen that, right after watching your video, on Koon Trucking and The Den Of Tools channels, they both reviewed the new 72 inch box at SEMA. It was said in the videos that "everything will come standard with black trim, and we will have chrome and titanium available as aftermarket trim options". The HF reps did not say if the trim was going to be black with all colors, or just with the gray. In both videos, the HF rep said that the 72 inch rolling box and hutch, will be available in Spring. In both of those videos, it was not said if the new colors will span across all sizes of tool boxes and add-ons. As an added bonus, the new Series 3 boxes will be backwards compatible with the Series 2 boxes. I really do hope they will span across all sizes, I'd like to get the 56 inch boxes. It's good to know the series 2 boxes are being clearanced. It looks like only the 72 inch boxes are being clearanced, so the Series 3 boxes might be available only in the 72 inch size initially. Hopefully it won't take long before the new colors are available in all sizes.

    Wish I had seen this one before starting this morning.
    Ran out of time before work because of those carriage bolts that won’t fit through painted holes on the bottom of my orange 2019 version 64722. There was no way mine were fitting with a “little” tap! I needed to use a ratchet cocked sideways so that the bolt threads would catch enough to keep it from spinning while I ran the Nyloc nuts down (tough with nothing to hold the bolts). It doesn’t help that the nuts weren’t distinguished in the parts list at all. They both just say “nut” without mentioning a serrated flange or nylon insert. The hardware counts in the instructions didn’t help… and not just because I misplaced one whole bag before I resorted to counting. BTW, mine had three bags, not two, silver hardware, not black, and only used the long bolts for the castors. Copyright date on the manual is 2019.
    Kinda silly that the manual tells you to finger-tighten everything right before telling you to use the Nyloc nuts which can’t really be finger-tightened. They were the very first!
    My orange box is definitely older even though it wasn’t at my Harbor Freight a few weeks ago. Being older stock might explain the rust I found under some of the powder coat.
    I found it easier to distinguish which way was up for the vertical posts by looking at how far the holes were from the edge. One side is an inch and the other is an inch and a half.
    My manual was very unclear regarding the cross supports. I had to wonder which way was up for the from/back supports since they didn’t even draw the tangs. I also concluded that it made more sense to support the front and back by installing the side supports below, contrary to what the manual shows.
    My “scratch and dent” unit was so damaged I could only unlock the top two drawers on the left without drilling out the rivets to expose the mechanism and pulling up on the spring-loaded metal piece. I was able to cut off the mangled parts and reinstall them to retain full functionality but I ended up removing them anyway to fit more magnetic socket trays in the top. I’ll hang on to the hardware in case I’m ever in a work environment where I might need to lock it!
    I’ll probably attach a wooden work surface to the lid to cover the corner I had to chop off but it only allows access to a couple screwdrivers anyway. Honestly, I’m considering adding an electrical outlet there too.
    The 2019 copyright manual also covers 56429, 64720, 64721, 64030, 64031, and 64061 though some of those have notable differences in newer 2021 and 2022 manuals that I see online (different hardware counts, names, etc). Guess they don’t always change the number when they update them.

    • @DaleLucid
      @DaleLucid  Před rokem +3

      This was a great post. You had exactly the same issue I did which is why I made the first version of this video.
      You can use one of the flang nuts to seat each shoulder bolt before installing the casters. It's the weight of the casters that makes it difficult to seat the bolt. The thread pattern is the same.
      I've assembled several of these carts and there's always 2 bags of nuts and bolts not counting the handle for the lid. I don't think yours is old.
      The rust on a new box is a story I've heard before. All but the gray color have silver hardware. I think that at one time the box assembly must have called for bolts through the box bottom into the front and back support. I noticed some time ago that the red box (red us the oldest color) had holes for bolts.
      Now you need to see my most popular video. 5 mods fir the US General 5 drawer cart. I think you'll be able to use the lock mod. Let me know if you need a link.
      Good luck and enjoy your new box!

    • @emmettturner9452
      @emmettturner9452 Před rokem

      @@DaleLucid I just put together a blue 2021 version (64031) and had some new issues.
      The “Castor Bolts” are now called “Long Bolts” or just “Bolts” depending on where you are in the instructions. This is because they are used in a couple extra places: The Tray and the Side Handle. For this, the count for the Long/Castor Bolts was also bumped up from 16+1 to 20+1.
      Once again, they packaged these with the wrong nuts for starting at the castors… though four of them actually are used with the packaged nuts in the two new spots. Of course, they package the washers with the wrong bolts too. The two hardware bags are very different kinds of plastic so I have to assume they were packaged at different suppliers and they weren’t going to repack them to pair hardware in a way that makes more sense.
      By referring to hardware with a number you won’t see until a future page, you can expect confusion. There’s even more confusion since you won’t find 20+1 of the Nyloc nuts to figure out which nuts they are actually calling for. Nothing adds up until you realize that there are four more already installed on the gas struts to protect the threads. You are almost guaranteed to guess wrong without prior experience. Heck, I guessed wrong WITH prior experience.
      Furthermore, they never say “Long bolt” in the instructions until you are on the 17th and 18th one. Inexcusable!
      Even the latest version of the manual online needs some edits which would be obvious if they watched even one person try to follow instructions with no previous experience. We call that “usability testing” and it’s as important for assembly instructions as it is for using the product itself.
      First, add a hardware checklist before the assembly steps or as Step 1 with a “ensure you have all these before beginning” instruction. They should also note the difference between the nylon lock nut (Nyloc) and the serrated flange nut right there along with a note about how you might find some of the hardware attached to the gas struts. They also need to use the descriptive name for each nut or bolt in the actual assembly steps… consistently.
      These instructions are also for the 2022 version of 64030, 64061, and 58833.

    • @DaleLucid
      @DaleLucid  Před rokem

      Try pulling the plastic cap from one if the lock bars in the back of the top till. Use locking pliers pliers to grab the metal lock bar and pull it all the way up. Then see if one of the small drawers on that side will open. If it works then the springs may be rusty. You may be able to use WD-40 or P B Blaster and work the springs to fix the issue but it may require a warranty return if you can't get the lock bars to work because that system is riveted together.
      If it isn't the lock bar issue then it's probably the drawer latches not cleaning. You should be able to see that when you work the latch. The cart may be racked during assembly. Try loosening all of the upright bolts and racking the cart. Try the latch and repeat. If only the top half width three drawers have a latch stuck but the two full width drawers are fixed then you will need to remove them. Pull the latch and slip a credit card corner above and behind the latch and pull forward so that the card slips between the latch and box to release it so you can remove the drawer. (See my video on removing and replacing the drawers) now work the middle panel of the box between the drawers a little to one side or another and try the drawer latch. Repeat till all three work. Make small adjustments and be patient the middle panel is flimsy and you don't want to damage it.
      Let me know if any of this helps and good luck!

      I believe that there will be more accessories. The USG magnet hook was already out and now the tray. The new 34" Full Bank will be out in slate gray as well.
      I just got the cart but I will be on the lookout for a rattle can that is a close match.
      As always thank you for watching 🍻

      The tray doesn't come with the box. Please subscribe and turn in notifications. It was on sale last weekend for $200. $90 below current retail.

    Open end wrenches?!?
    A 3/8 impact with an 8 inch extension and 13mm socket would have made this much MUCH easier and quicker.

    Forgot to mention about the slide locks under the drawer handles to open the drawers and the drawer release on left needs pushed upward not down like the right side of the drawer

      Here's an easy fix for the latch without destroying it. You can take the magnets out of the tool hanger bars and put one or 2 on the back side of the drawers. They pull just enough on the back panel to keep the drawers from flying open when you move your cart.

    Dude I’m so tired every install video of this tool box doesn’t show how to tighten the bolts when there’s nothing to hold them in place while tightening the nuts

    • @DaleLucid
      @DaleLucid  Před rokem +3

      Tip 4. There are square holes or elongated holes that the square shoulder under the head of the carriage bolts fits into. Note as stated in tip 4 you may need to clean out the powder coating for a proper fit. When the bolts are seated they don't turn. You may have to hold the bolt fully in the square holes until you get the nut seated well enough so that the shoulder of the carriage bolt doesn't slip from it's seated position and turn freely.
      Note also that I attached the casters with the bottom tray upside down. I left the end of the tray over the edge of the table so that I could hold the carriage bolt in place while I tightened the nyloc nuts. I think that this is the best way so that the weight of the heavy casters sits on the tray while being attached.
      I hope that this helps. Good luck 👍
