Cheers. Great video
Can you go through the 2021 AA section C piece and tell us what arguments and what language you would use?
Thanks! I’ll try fit that in - will be working on ‘how to prepare’ vids for other subjects too
Hey Darren, what's the best way to develop new ideas and gain a more comprehensive understanding of a texts' themes before writing essays?
Honestly coming up with themes is not too hard - just go with the most obvious ones. As you look at your texts and think about the purpose of certain moments and how they contribute to different themes, your understanding of the themes will deepen
hey darren, were all of your body paragraphs for argument analysis similar lengths even though your chunks were uneven? around how long was each body paragraph?
Hey Ava! They’d be mostly even, but at the extremes between 0.75 - 1.25 pages
Hi! What's your opinion on leaving conclusions to be written at the end of the exam if you have time left ? I've heard that no marks are allocated to conclusions? since I myself am finding it really hard to manage my time I was thinking about doing that if I don't have my timing under control when the exam comes around
I think you should just pace yourself better to complete the entire exam. I think conclusions are important for Sections A and B and kinda optional for Section C. Conclusions just act like a nice summary and I feel that they make an essay feel ‘complete’. But yes if you were really behind on time then skipping the conclusion for later is a decent choice (but try and avoid being behind)
Third is pretty cool 🤷♂️
Hi Darren,
With regards to the idea of stamina in an English exam do you think it is better to do a timed practice essay and handwriting it?
Thanks!
Sonnet
At this point in the year I was trying to refine my timing and cover my bases, so handwriting was better.
Hi Darren, what do you think scores a high result in argument analysis ? I keep getting around 8/10, but I’m not sure what I can add/what i’m missing that will boost my score
8 and 9s are really good already! If you’re scoring 8/10 I think your analysis could be more vivid. Your analysis should mirror the author’s argument e.g. His repetition of ‘I’ highlights his overwhelming arrogance. In this example, I say ‘overwhelming arrogance’ to really drive the point home.
do u have any tips on cutting down essays? i think i have a problem with overcompensating with too much but dont really know when is enough also thank you btw ur videos have helped me all yr :)
So glad the vids have been aiding you along in this tough year! What do you mean by overcompensating? As in analysing useless stuff too much or writing too much overall? I’d advise you to stick to time, and try and allocate more time to more impactful evidence and quotes
@@DarrenTan21 THANKS :) i think writing too much overall , do u think in a sac its fair to get marked down for writing to much ? also for the exam do you think its better to be more succient than trying to create more developed sentances ?
What do you think of the new study design where theres no comparative but creative writing instead?
Have not researched it much. I thought the comparative was quite nice and less subjective than creative writing, but I’m curious what the creative writing is like
hey Darren will you be doing any live streams going through exams?
Hey Andres! I’m a lot busier this semester so am unlikely to hold regular exam livestreams… I may hold a qna livestream or the like though. Glad you remember them from last year!
hey how much do u think it would effect me if i didnt end up finishing my section B
(an unfinished short bp 3 and no conclusion) , i have a high ranking and really wanted to do well :(
Hey Auj! Hopefully not too much. If the gist of your essay is at a high level then you may still receive a good mark.
Hey Darren, I was just wondering what it meant by "argument analysis". Like what should we do for that? (referring to Section C)
Hey Agario, for that section you receive an article that someone is written and you analyse how they’ve used language and images to contribute to their contention
@@DarrenTan21 Yep, but for some reason as part of the study design for section C it says we need to know how to analyze "intent and logical development of argument" - would you know what this means and what it looks like within the essay?
hey, im just curious, how do you know your section scores? can you do it with any exam?
Hey Ranusha, after your study scores come out you can apply for something called a ‘statement of marks’ which contains your exact exam scores and scores for each question: www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Documents/vce/results/StatMarkInspReturnForm.pdf
Hey, could you do one for Eng lang as well? ❤
