- Hello my dear friends. I finished shooting this episode yesterday.
In the video I finish the fourth course of logs. I can't sleep in the tent I have in the winter because I can't put a stove in it. And that's why I'm starting to build a very small and simple new cabin where I'll only have a stove, a table and a bed. This way I can stay on my property and the work will go faster and the videos will be more frequent.

When I was 20 years old, I dropped out of college and said to myself that I will do what I really want and what I see meaning in. So I decided to build my dream log cabin, all by myself, in the middle of an off-grid bush.
After I left school, I went to work for a while to earn money for trees and hand tools. I spent all the money I earned and my savings on it. Thank God, I already owned the land I have - I got it from my dear parents as a gift and I also bought another part of the land with my own money.
I chose a log cabin for my home because I like it. I build it with the vision of living a simple and peaceful life in it. Having time is more important to me than having money. Of course, nowadays a person cannot live without money, but I would like to live in such a way that my expenses are not so high and thus reduce the need for money. I want to have time not only for myself, but also for my future wife and children. That's why I will try to build the most self-sufficient life possible, in which my own housing, in my case a log cabin, will be the heart of this system.
I chose the traditional method of building - using only hand tools because they are my favorite. There is beauty in simplicity.
Working with hand tools has several advantages: You are able to work off-grid, the entire set of tools you need can fit in one bag, there is better safety when you work alone, you don´t make too much noise when you´re working... so I enjoy it more and I believe you will too, while watching :)
My dear father is a carpenter. I remember that most of the things he taught me while working with wood were precisely while working with hand tools, which required the most attention and practice from me.
My father taught me how to work with wood from a young age, but I have no experience with building a log cabin, so I'm learning everything as I go, and I'm looking forward to what this experience will teach me.
It may not seem like it, but it was a big struggle to get this opportunity to be able to work on my dream, but I finally did it and for that I am incredibly grateful. My grandfather is an old school joiner (wood whisperer) is a nickname inoften remembered hearing call himself. Anyway. Hes neve wstxhed a yourube video in his life until last week and at the ripe old age of 94 i said he may enjoy watching your videos. It is utterly fascinating watching you craft your cabin as pioneers the world over would have done. What's more impressive is the fact that in present times you did not have to commit to building a cabin with a limited number of hand tools!
You could have either purchased a kit and simply put it together. Or you could have utilized power tools to speed the process up considerably.
I hope your parents and grandparents realise just what a talented craftsman you truly are. They should be extraordinarily proud of just what a you are achieving. A quite intimidating task for someone so young to commit to.
I watch you with ore, totally convinced you will indeed achieve your goal and complete the cabin that has been built with such love and respect for a bygone craft.

Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control, attention halted to detail, satisfaction, harmony and gratefulness. These all come to mind. But the greatest of these is the love and appreciation shown fer th' wood of a fine ol' school carpentry craftsman. ... Raised correctly taught by his Pappy, and I s'pose the fine precision specialty tools prob'ly handed down too! ... Hands down the best editing and no soundtrack ...(!HOOORAY!), ... 'cept the sounds of nature, and his precious labor of love. One of these delightful segments showing a visit from a preying mantis, particularly struck my soul. I love all 'em critters, but me n' Elly Mae never hooked up, ... ANYWAY, ... this is my most fave CZcams program series to watch since I saw 8 year old Yoyoka shred Zepp's "Good Times Bad Times", a couple years ago. ... The serenity now, ... fer an ol' fogeezer like me, ... pilgrims, ... !OH!, ... the serenity now! ... !7+STARS!

Добрый день, рубишь отлично, по-Русски в чашку. Как у нас в России еще дедовским/отцовским способом. Совет: дальше один не руби и не поднимай бревна - одному тяжело, спину позвонки сместишь и гемморой)) (мужиков из деревни ближайшей позови, сто грамм виски налей, так помогут...). И вначале кровля. Потом пол на лаги/балки, по ним побегаешь... Снизу еще фальш-пол сделай хоть из фанеры, хоть из чего, далее прослойка стекловаты/утеплителя, чтобы мыши не бегали и тепло было ногам (ну типа того). Advice: don’t continue cutting and lifting logs alone - it’s hard for one, you’ll dislocate your back vertebrae and get hemorrhoids)) (call the men from the nearest village, pour a hundred grams of whiskey, they’ll help...). And first the roof. Then the floor is covered with joists/beams, you can run on them... Make a false floor underneath, either from plywood or anything else, then a layer of glass wool/insulation so that mice don’t run around and your feet are warm (well, something like that). Well done! As your using hand tools for this cabin I would strongly suggest getting yourself a flat faced axe I don't know the name but it is a small handled broad faced axe which has one side depending if your right or left handed flat and one side normal looking and it's used to face rough wood

Your videos are that of a dying art. You make it look so easy but I can imagine the bull work that is involved in creating a log cabin with a select number of hand tools. Keep up the amazing videos.

Did you try roughing out the end notches with a saw to get the bulk of material removed prior to shaping with the broadax? Maybe the cut angles and arcs make it unfeasable.
I like the use of brace and bit for driving screws, a 'yankee' push driver would also be good for tight areas.
I was thinking that if you were previously a power tool user, it must have been a big adjustment in patience and physical endurance!

Why do you peel the logs twice?
For the first time, I took off the bark. Then the wood dried up and turned gray. I peel it a second time to make it bright again and this time I varnish it straight away because it was not possible before because the wood was fresh.

Why cant you put a stove in your tent?
Because it's a summer tent, and it has a lot of vents where the cold gets in.
Why not get a hot tent? Would it have been that much more expensive than the materials to build the little cabin?
