  • Wow do we have a lot to talk about this week. The Detroit GP had almost everything for us to watch! We had Kyle Kirkwood and Santino almost throwing hands at each other over a practice incident, we had rain in the middle of the race for exactly 4-5 minutes it seemed like and no surprise at all- Scott Dixon wins a brilliant strategic race. Lots of car to car contact to discuss. I try to give a detailed yet fair explanation of why the driver of the #14 car for AJ Foyt Racing gets the reaction he does from other drivers. Also Teddy Chairs got some wild hate over the weekend from the Argentinian fan base after he made contact with Canapino in the race... That's not cool. We talk about it all.
    Let us know what you thought of the race in the comments! Don't forget Road America is this Sunday on NBC!

    Daly in the Le Man 24 would be epic! It’s on my bucket list and my fiancé loves France!? So maybe that would be the tipping point lol. I’m going to the WEC race at COTA this year to get my feet wet with this whole endurance thing. Hope to see you in some sporty car races. Love a driver that has the whole attitude of “have helmet will race”. Sports Cars, Rally, Indycar, Dirt cars … love it! You’re the people’s hero. Great content as always!

    Great podcast, as usual. It may be that Indycar needs a black hat (Santino) to create the kind of drama that will appeal to fans of other sports. In spite of all the wrecks, or possibly in part because of them, the Detroit race was interesting. With all the yellow flags, it would have been nice had there not been extra laps at the end of each caution period.

    • @ConorDaly22

    I just have one Big Yikes, but it encompasses a lot. My Big Yikes goes to Race Control &/or the series. When the pace car leads the most laps AND runs out of fuel, that’s a big yikes. Race Control is at fault for the excessively long caution periods, and the Series is responsible for forcing “races” in a hallway. Be it Detroit, Nashville, whatever, that debacle this past weekend should be a come to Jesus moment where the decisionators take another look at the direction the series is currently headed. We just CANNOT have that type of event on the heels of 6 million sets of eyes consuming the Indy 500. They should be thankful that it was on USA/peacock and viewership was limited.

    • @ConorDaly22
      @ConorDaly22  Před 2 měsíci

      i certainly agree that the race after the Indy 500 should probably be at an oval or something a bit more encapsulating. Belle Isle I did enjoy more, I loved that track as did a lot of drivers. Hopefully the series can make something work for the future.

    Given the poor driving standard on display, after such a momentous, epic Indy, I don't think it's such a bad thing a lot of people gave this one a miss. I put most of the blame on the circuit design...there is NO way with IndyCar as close and competitive as it is that with a long start straight into a f'ing HAIRPIN WHICH IS THE ONLY OVERTAKING SPOT ON THE COURSE were there not going to be issues. BIG issues. But it just got beyond ridiculous to embarrassing. And then it ended with a...wait for it...Dixon fuel save! Thank god Ericsson made it interesting at the end. Colton got royally screwed by that tiny rain and then tried too hard to make up spots to quickly...again. Do you agree it's time for him to drive smarter more consistently? And: he's not seemed like the same Colton since Bryan was taken off his car....why do you think Andretti did that, and can't they maybe see it wasn't the best idea? From all the wrecks, Santino doing Santino (I find the cat hilarious myself but I don't have to race him) to the near calamity on pit road, I think this GP needs a major rethink. Why not go back to Belle Isle? And is Teddy Porch Chairs really getting the Argie treatment? Good lord man lol. Cheers dude, and FFS someone give you a drive...! You're a top-ten most popular/known driver, and 100% ditto re: talent. Sports/entertainment businesses can be so frustrating and stupid (trust me, this I know...!) Peace-
    EDIT ps I do NOT believe Chase had Dial soap put in his mouth as a kid that's like a meme from 50's movies and just no, not buyin' it. He's honestly floundering on this pod and went for some folksy Dennis The Menace BS...naw, dog.

    • @ConorDaly22
      @ConorDaly22  Před 2 měsíci

      I think a lot of folks agree with you on most of what you're saying! Sadly I dont think they can go back to Belle Isle because of some environmental reason I think? Or something odd I am not sure on that so dont quote me, hah. I think a lot of what Colton has gone through is purely bad luck. I do believe of course he's made mistakes at times but I think we will see a lot more strong moments out of him this year than not!

    So here's my question. What indy drivers are interested in running the Indy 500 and Charlotte 600?
    Would you do the double if the opportunity came up?

    • @ConorDaly22
      @ConorDaly22  Před 2 měsíci

      I've tried to answer this a few times but it doesnt really work the same way for us to go there. For us, the 500 is the main focus and should remain the focus. Unless you've won the indy 500 you wouldnt want to shift focus elsewhere. At least in my opinion. If you notice there isnt ever anyone speaking about wanting to go there to compete its those in nascar wanting to come to the 500.

    I'm waiting for Ferrucci to tangle with Canapino. Argentina will send squads of hit men. Every driver needs to be able to trust and respect drivers they compete against. I don't think any current driver believes they can trust Santino. Now, how do we get him banned in North America?

    Kirkwood moved to the left, unaware , in Ferrucci's path and Santino deliberately moved to the right even more. Shrug. Deliberate retaliation is only going to damage HIS car as well as Kirkwood's. Driving angry is one thing, driving angry and stupid is another!

    • @ConorDaly22
      @ConorDaly22  Před 2 měsíci

      We have talked about it in a few older episodes if you want to have a look but the top 22 cars in the championship at the end of the year are considered "leaders circle" cars and they get an extra $1.1M each from the series. Most of it is paid out at the Indy 500 which is why the prize money numbers look big but really arent.

    I love the show and thanks for having Scott Dixon on. For as much as people, in the DirtyMoMedia world, talk about Larson as the "greatest, I'm sorry but Scott Dixon is more likely the greatest of our time. I was at the Detroit GP with my 9yr old son, as a way for us to get over Dad blowing up his Sr Honda motor at Lansing. 🤦 I'll just say this, my kid loves racing, he said 1/2 thru he was bored. He thought there would be more passing. This year, he's been to Barber and the 500 with me, and I never heard those words at either of those races.. He's the future fan, they need to choose Venus that will hold interest, Detroit just isn't it. 1/2 the track is so narrow you can't run two wide

    • @ConorDaly22

      You definitely have to get seats in the grandstand around turn 3 to see any action. My family and I enjoyed the race from there. The worst issue was the length of the pace laps. It seemed like there were 3-4 extra caution laps even after the track was cleared. The other issue is the terrible surface condition. The pavement around turns 5, 6, and 7 is completely embarrassing. You’re telling me in two years they can’t get a few hundred feet of track repaved?

    Just brainstorming ideas for a indycar/nascar promotion. Whoever wins the Indy 500 gets a ride for the Brickyard 400 and if the indycar driver wins there’s a paycheck for “X” amount bonus for winning. Also since Larson didn’t get to drive his coke 600 car in charlotte, how about bring that same paint scheme to Indy for the brickyard

    I don’t doubt what you’re saying about Santino in general, but in the onboard camera of Kyle‘s car it sure does look like he quickly swerves left at him. About 53 seconds in this video. czcams.com/video/w7akvRgrs04/video.htmlsi=nYbFdH0Ra4XJyjQS

    • @ConorDaly22

      he literally goes left which is what is allowed in the race rules even, one move lol and follows the straight yellow line in the center of the road until Santino tries to drive into him. That defensive move is made all the time there because everyone tries to claim their spot in line. I've watched it a lot, and the reaction to what Kyle did was wayyyyyyy too much.
