      I KNEW it. The design is just too recognizable. Glad to see I wasn't just imagining the similarities. XD
      I'd even started thinking that maybe the Daft Punk movie was actually just the singing parts from an anime musical that Daft Punk had made the soundtrack to....

      It's largely because they were kinda forced to after their other original works didn't catch on, and people demanded more of the same, especially Nagai, just look at all the manga he has made, there are many, many strange original concepts and stories, even at this very moment he is working on some dystopian sci-fi gender-bender cop manga.
      Matsumoto Reiji got around a bit with just not-caring about the consistency of his universe and just plopped in anything he wanted, it's more of a strange conceptual fantasy than a sci-fi, a lot like a very trippy star-trek, often focused more on episodic ideas and concepts than the characters.

    • @tomaszwota1465
      @tomaszwota1465 Před 6 lety +3

      Well, sequels and spinoffs can be fun if they are done right and consistent with each other.
      I'm not a fan of alternative story lines and changing the universe and characters, though.

      Tomasz Wota It mainly bothers me with series that never needed any. To me seeing fans talk about how happy they are for a series like Cardcaptor Sakura to continue again when everything was resolved beforehand it gets weird. With Clear Card I kind of feel like no one even knows where it's going at this point. I mean, the original anime ended in the early 2000's...
      Now a series like Tiger & Bunny would make sense because things were left untied up, but when I see it being done to series like the above or even ones like Madoka it becaomes a headache.

    I remember the seeds of my babby weebdom were planted by that week-long anime movie special with an Elvira-style host that the Sci-Fi Channel ran in the early 2000s. They showed dubs of 999 and Adieu. That was some of the first anime I'd ever seen and definitely the first full-length ones and with any kind of emotional depth. I've been scared to watch them ever since because child me still considers both masterpieces.

    • @TheTMKF
      @TheTMKF Před 6 lety +3

      I have a friend who's a big sakuga nerd who had the same experience. The 999 movie shown on SciFi was formative for him, and he has very good taste to this day. When we were teenagers I stumbled across a VHS version of Dagger of Kamui. He got all excited that Rintaro was involved, but as an actual film it was totally nonsensical and the dub made it even worse. So me and another friend savagely MST3K'd it the whole time, while the 999 fan was like, "But the animation is very inventive...."

    Hey!!! As someone who's watched all 113 episodes of Galaxy Express 999, both movies, and the ending to the series, "Eternal Fantasy", I really recommend that people watch the series! Although it can be cheesy at times, its still a really good watch. There are many imperfections, such as a number of plot holes, but nothing that would detract from the questions posed by the situations the characters are put into. Also, Tetsuro is canonically short and ugly so I easily relate to him.

    Fucking Davoo, on this latest Digibro video, was a bigger appeal than Digi himself. Nothing wrong with Digi's video, it was great, but Davoo's editing of it was so great that I had to watch it twice. Digi don't let you employee be better than you! Step it up!
    Like, I was one of those who did not even watch the video of Digi's stuff for so long, like he complained about recently. Because I never felt it was any good. But Davoo has, pretty much since "The last high school anime" been so on top of his game and overperforming that I've been forced to watch the videos. "There is too much anime" and "The great director who forgot" are some of my favorite editjobs ever by anyone as well.
    And watching Digi's editing on the Devilman video, I really could see the difference in detail and quality of work. It was massively less inventive and engaging to watch. The clip selection did it's job in that one, but it never stood out and impressed on it's own.
    Davoo, you are a hero of content. Keep at it man. You have so much respect from me.

      What sci-fi tv series has not mixed sci-fi and adventure ? It's like the most common combination, Start Trek, DR Who, Flash Gordon, Buck Rodgers and so on. It has a huge history, only later the non-adventure ones started to permeate. Not to mention how much of an impact Star Wars had, which was very much based on those.
      Though 999 and Harlock are very much more thoughtful and conceptual.

    I would love if you could list every anime shown in your videos. I love your videos, knowing your opinion and most of all getting to know new stuff outside my normal "comfort zone". Thanks for the awesome video, keep it up!

    That was a fun trip. Rintaro got a taste of weirdly open creative freedom and then NOTHING COULD STOP HIM SINCE, NO MATTER HOW NONSENSICAL HIS WORK WAS.
    That said, still like Metropolis
    also though, its best viewed as a trippy music video while drunk and with friend style commentary
    they need to be drunk too
