    The two most shocking ones that come to mind first are the Chargers with the #1 offense and #1 defense... like how was their special teams so bad that they missed the playoffs??? And then the 11-5 Patriots. Yeah they didn't have Brady, but 11 wins and missing the playoffs is just wild

      that's why the American playoff system sucks, and the European point system is better. But that's also why the American Playoff is so exciting and the European sometimes is boring. Playoffs encourage mediocrity and tanking (because of no relegation) and sometimes bad teams making the playoffs over great like Washington in 2019, while the other system is too weird, I saw a documentary the other day about Man City where they won the premier league while just being on a plane or playing golf they weren't even watching the other match and it was so anticlimactic.

    • @Ballardgeonte
      @Ballardgeonte Před rokem +3

      @@WillXtinger yeah see that's why the points system is weak because some teams can front run and the other teams can cancel eachother out meaning the champ is known early on. Football is the best playoff format because it's one game and the upsets happen out of nowhere. I wish they kept the college football playoff at 8 teams instead of 12 cuz that's half of the top 25 and it damn near deems rating irrelevant cuz one year a 13-15 team is gonna make the playoffs and they're gonna base it on "strength of schedule" which is a bs metric because no team can choose their schedule nor how good or bad the teams on their schedule will be the year prior or the year they play them. I also love the divisional win format as it puts more stock on the divisional rival games as opposed to focused on how many wins specifically because it allows a teams to focus moreso on the division opponents rather than trying to run the table like they attempt to force the college football teams to do which is so hard

      One thing people forget is that the special teams was so bad that the Chargers always had worse field position. So the offense would always have to go 75 yards or further to score so they racked up more yards than other teams. And the defense always started near midfield and gave up less yards overall even when the other team scored. So it was actually these units overcoming the awful special teams that had them at #1 and #2 in the league. Also almost every loss was by one score and included some sort of special teams gaffe that cost them the game.

It took them a few weeks to find their footing on offense in the Montana to Young transition, but once they did they were a machine. But truly, the one thing that kept Young from guiding them to more SB's was the defenses that they put on the field. They couldn't get to the QB and had questionable CB play. Honestly though Steve as great as he was, was not the most dominant playoff performer. Regular season success was due to the fact they could get out to early leads and just play the pass. Also the NFC West was weak so they could pick up 5 or 6 wins there yearly. During those years in the 90's they mostly didn't have the defense to compete for the SB, but definitely had the offense to beat the also rans. The Cowboys and Packers had monster defenses and Tampa was developing one prior to their SB year. The team was basically Young an old Rice, Brent Jones and a budding TO.
