- Toni Basil once had one of the biggest hits of the 80s with Mickey and once danced with Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and James Brown. Today's clip was filmed by choreographer Cristina Benedetti when Toni was 74 and is an incredible example of how age is in the mind.

I agree with you on that. I used to go country western dancing. I wish I could move like that
She danced with the Lockers for years. Proof that a body in motion, STAYS in motion.
On the other hand, all bodies in the dark tend to move towards the fridge 😁

She doesn't even look 75!! it's mad, she looks like 40-45!! absolutely amazing - keep it up for another 30 years!
When she actually was 40 in her Mickey video she looked like she was 20-25 so that checks out.
I'm about half her age, and I broke my hip just watching her....Don't let that age number stop you, just keep rockin it Toni.
you have a very bad lifestyle then. i ashamed of you.
She's INCREDIBLE. Her age doesn't even cross my mind watching her. I love her style and the way she's dances to house music
75? my goodness, she barely looks 50. that is a woman who recognized how worthy and important her body and soul were and spent her life preserving it. such a rad lady 🌠⚡
Why in the heck would anyone put a thumbs down to a 74 year-old woman who can move like THAT? What's wrong with you people? She's amazing!
Because some people just want to see the world burn.

@@ricosuave5120 so sad but so very very true 😞

People are so unaware of how influential she's been in dance. Very respected among her peers.
This is living proof that age is all in the mind. Give in to it and the thinking of , 'Oh, I'm too old to do that.', and your body will act accordingly. Think old, be old. Think young, be young. Great to see people still going for it and living life to the best of their abilities and enjoying it.
Old is NOT the word to describe this woman. There are people much younger than her and they can't move like that. Wow!!! Age ain't nothing but a number, a social box people put you in, and a state of mind.
She’s in her 70’s. I am 49. I am not even in her league. I couldn’t even move like that if I wanted to. On the plus side, I did exercise today. So there’s that. 😁

She was HUUUUUGE in the hip hop break dancing scene back in the day: behind the scenes as a choreographer and has been EXTREMELY influential in that genre of dance and expression. But sadly a lot of folks aren’t aware of this, because all they know of Toni is the song “Hey Mickey”... but i promise you if you look into her life store I’m sure you’ll be so happy you did!!! Yessssss I feel the same way!
Its more about thd genetics and about your state of mind. Doing the things you love and staying healthy! Dancing surely can be a good way of maintaining that, if that's what you love doing!
I’m not quite so nimble at 73, but I’m going to keep going. (Hi Siobhan, haven’t been able to find you for ages. Hope I’ve gotta now.x)
Wow! Toni is still AMAZING! The way she mixes so many influential dance styles so elegantly, Latin, funk, locking like it's still 1978, every motion fluid, like it's second nature.... As if she perfoms pictures in time.. those flashes of James Brown sparkling like fireworks.... She still looks younger than me! In her 70's, and good God, still smoking hot! She can't stand by dry brush or she could set it a blaze! She was hot before i was born, and the way she moves will likely be fantasy material long after I'm powder in a jar.... Mind blown by a living legend! 😮 Did dance make her immortal? Why doesn't she have her own channel teaching people how to be healthy enough to live life to the fullest!??? If she ever makes one, or writes a book showing how to be as healthy as she is, I don't just want it, i need it! Step by step guide, including diet, workouts, sleep schedule, i mean every move could create the play by play book on how to live like time going by doesn't work on you! I mean literally has zero effect on your body! Either she knows how to live healthy like no other, she's the last Kryptonian woman, or she's discovered immortality. If i married a 20 year old that looked that good she'd drop my jaw to the ground every time i woke up, got out of bed, just to look back at the bed to gaze apon someone that stunning every day! 😮😮😮😅😅😅❤
I am an 80's child and I must say as a big fan of hers, she is great! Just goes to show you that you are as young as you feel and age is just a number! WOW!

When I used to live in L.A., I would see Toni every once in a while at the Cock & Bull, a British pub in Santa Monica, that had salsa dancing every Tuesday. This was around 2005-8, or so. She told me that she was bopping back and forth between L.A. & N.Y.C. due to her busy bi-costal choreography career. When she was in town, Toni would graciously dance with me over in the corner of the B&F, since she was not one for the spotlight and, understandably, wanted to protect her wonderfully talented feet. I can tell you that Toni is warm and gracious and gentle, and such a smooth salsera. Always a pleasure to mambo with her. What a sweetheart. I miss our times on the dancefloor.
Awesome memories, hold on to them for as long as you can and occasionally dance your heart out when the smile of it all takes over your soul!

marcochimio It must have been circa 2000. I remember I took my husband there on a trip to L.A. (I had moved away for college and stayed). He did not “get” it, which is ironic because we live in Portland now and our local pub was a favorite haunt.

My thoughts exactly! Even if she was horrible- which obviously she’s not! - how could you dislike someone moving like that at her age alone? I can’t and I’m much younger. Toni’s the coolest.
This is someone who has taken care of herself in her whole life.
This is the key. Anyone can be like Toni, but they have to make healthy life choices. This kind of vitality is NOT an accident...and it's never too late to start living healthfully, by not eating garbage food, exercising everyday, getting proper nutrients, eating only once or twice a day (no snacking), etc.
@@dlg5485 you need to snack and eat multiple times a day to jumpstart your metabolism and keep it running throughout the day. Not eating as much causes the body to hold onto previous fat stores. Eating small to medium sized meals with proper snacks throughout the day is the way to do this especially if you are doing as much as Toni. Energy and vitality come from fueling the body properly and regularly throughout the day, not from eating less.
Exactly
@@dlg5485 Having the cash to do that, i.e., personal trainer, no 9-5 job, highest quality food, great cosmetic surgery, hairdressers, etc., doesn't hurt either.
I'm not slamming her in the least because most who have the means to be able to do that wouldn't, but the average woman who works all day, then cares for the kids after work, shops, cooks, does the laundry, etc. has neither the free time nor the money to do that.
@@sersastark You are wrong and there is ample research that demonstrates it. I've had this conversation so many times with so many people over the years that I'm honestly tired with it at this point. Look into it for yourself, don't simply continue to believe obsolete information from the 1960s. Read some research on Intermittent fasting, there is a lot of it. Routine fasting in conjunction with a low sugar, low carb diet triggers extremely beneficial processes in the body (ketosis and autophagy) that will accelerate weight loss and can even cure chronic illness (heart disease, diabetes, etc) and even reverse organ damage. I have personally experienced all of these things myself and I know others who have as well. I have been eating only 1 to 2 meals daily for YEARS and I am the picture of perfect health. Don't just blindly accept long established conventional wisdom, much of which has already been proven wrong. You have to keep up with new research and follow the thought leaders who are pushing the envelope in these areas.
Toni Basil reminds me that both Fred Astaire and Harold Nicholas (of the Nicholas Brothers fame) were both still dancing professionally at similar ages. Stay in shape, work out, remain as active as much as you can, think "young," eat healthily. Toni Basil is, indeed, an inspiration.
I've been dancing since I was 6. I'm going on 61. Only dancers understand that it comes from deep inside. Anyone that tells you you can't do something is usually the person watching.
