Saginaw Spirit vs Sarnia Sting 3/28/12 Playoff Game #4

  • Spirit Take Down Sarnia 4-3 in OT
    On Wednesday night the Saginaw Spirit returned home to The Dow Event Center to take on the Sarnia Sting in game 4 of their best of seven playoff series. The Spirit would defeat the Sting by the score of 4-3 in overtime. Scoring for Spirit was spread out amongst three players: Garret Ross, Josh Shalla and Brandon Saad.
    Garret Ross would get the game started for the Spirit. 3:16 into the period he would steal the puck at the blue line and race in on J.P. Anderson, scoring the first goal of the game for the Spirit. Justin Kea and Jacob Ringuette would assist Ross' goal. 12:09 in the period Josh Shalla would skate in front of the net and snipe a shot over JP Anderson to take a 2-0 lead over Sarnia. Brad Walch and Brandon Saad would assist Shalla's goal. Sarnia would answer at the 17:26 mark as the puck would come off the stick of Brett Thompson and beat Spirit goalie Jake Paterson.
    The second period would remain an even battle amongst the two teams. 17:23 Sarnia's Nail Yakupov would land himself a goal to tie the game 2-2. Ludvig Rensfeldt would assist Yakupov's goal.
    11:07 into the third, Sarnia's Nathan Chiarlitti would score from the blue line as Sarnia would take the lead 3-2 over Spirit. Brandon Saad would answer right back with a goal of his own to tie the game once again 3-3. The teams would remain tied and would head to overtime.
    1:28 into the over time period, Josh Shalla would be the hero for the Spirit as he would skate by the net and find a loose puck which he would fire past JP Anderson! With that goal the Spirit would take game 4 by the score of 4-3 and tie the series at 2-2.
