The Slaws are on their early summer holiday to France. They make full use of the facilities in the Pet Lounge on the Dover to Calais Ferry, @POFerriesUK driving through France in their Hobby Motorhome Helga @HobbyCaravan
It's an eventful journey with road rage in a supermarché carpark, before crossing the Pont de Normandie and arriving safely at the Aire in Honfleur.

The Slaws meet up with Tracey and Kev from The Yorkshire Motoroamers and have a lovely evening and meal out @yorkshiremotoroamers
Next day, they explore Honfleur and the Jardin de Personnalitiés before setting off for Mont St Michel.
Slaw makes good use of our new Airide by Puncture Control rear suspension assistance getting on the ferry and tilting Helga to drain the grey water on the Aire.
178 miles Calais to Honfleur. 23 eu tolls. 12 eu Aire for 24 hours.

We got to honfleur once and had a terrible time in a restaurant at lunch time. We had ordered scampi but when the waiter produced a long thin fork I knew we were in trouble. And the price. Eyewatering. Looking forward to the next vlog.

Great vlog! On building heights, I think I remember hearing it is easier to construct adjacent houses if the heights are different. Doubtless also a money thing - whoever owned each plot had a different budget and different needs.

At 29:16 in the video the building to the left of the church with the ivy is a little hotel that we had a nights stopover on honeymoon 24 years ago. The church bell “bongs” once every fifteen minutes. Makes me want to go back , beautiful little harbour town.

Careful with the EU pet passports in mainland Europe, some vets in France have been fined as they issued passports to brits on holidays without checking if they had proof of residency. I just registered a pup that I got in the UK that I had to travel over to France with the ridiculous AHC and when I went to my local vets here had to dash home to bring them my proof of french residency, they required my French ID plus utility / tax habitation paperwork etc. I've heard some people have been refused entry as when spot checked the couldn't provide any formal residency proof.
Thanks Will, that sounds like a nightmare, but we didn’t get our EU passports from France. We got them from NI. There is no requirement for NI or Ireland EU passports to have proof of residency.
How do you go about getting them from N.I?

I agree! how long is a piece of string lol. I don't particularly care for the look of some Eastern Block Countries' apartment blocks, that look like high rise flats, that are placed horizontally. They are all the same height therefore and I think it makes the skyline somewhat boring. All best, Steve.
Brilliant absolutely brilliant vlog at the beginning of your travels Mr and Mrs slaw the wife and I are travelling from Portsmouth to dover to Calais turning left and touring upto Amsterdam so watching you with great anticipation and learning from you as it's our first time abroad in our motorhome. Hi Mark! Glad you found the vlog useful. You’ll have a great time! Aires very greatly in size and facilities. Our only advice would be to NEVER sleep on a motorway Aire. And never leave your moho unattended in a large supermarket car park. One of you always stay with it. We have family and friends who experienced issues with both. We use the Bord Atlas and All the Aires books to locate village Aires and have used them many times with no problems. Have a great trip 🚍☀️
Researching our first French tour and re watching your videos, quick question (and it might not be the last) are all motorway toll machines on the left side, my wife is disabled and couldn’t do what you do to get ticket or pay, thinking I would have to run round to do it. Thanks, your videos have been invaluable in my research.
Hi Graham, yes they are on the left, but you can get a tag where you drive through and they bill you later. Something like Emovis.

Hi, we are planning on arriving at the Aire you used in Honfleur next Sunday. Know it’s difficult to say but do you have any tips as to the time we stand a chance of getting a space as I’m thinking we may well struggle. Thanks, your VLOG has convinced us we need to explore there!
You’ll have a fantastic time! The aire is huge. Unfortunately we can’t say when would be the best time to arrive as we don’t know the circumstances of the day. We arrived at 4pm and there were loads of spaces. Have a great trip 🚍☀️

Thank you Linda! It’s a tough question. The tunnel is quicker and the dogs stay in the vehicle with you, but it’s more expensive. We live such a long way from the South Coast that the ferry is a good journey breaker for us. Slaw gets to stretch his legs and have a full breakfast xx

We paid £368 on the ferry and the tunnel was £417.

Thank you! As far as we can make out online, the sticker is valid for the lifetime of the vehicle as long as it remains legible.

Can you tell me how many hours you were on the ferry then driving to your first aire ? Very impressed with Mr Slaws driving 😊
Hi Lisa, Slaw has been driving abroad since 1996 so he’s well used to it now. The ferry takes about an hour and a half, then add on the time difference so we got off the ferry at 11am. We arrived in Honfleur about 4pm. It was 178 miles, but we had a dog wee wee stop, then filled up with diesel and did a supermarket shop, then had a lunch stop too. So no rushing around. You’ll have seen the roads were fine with no issues. Big girl pants on! You’ll really enjoy it 🚍☀️

Thanks Lesley! We don’t use anything g other than their usual flea treatment. They’ve got very dense coats being Lhasa Apso. When we had a collie/JR X we used a Seresto collar.

Thanks James! We’ve always gone on the ferry historically with the kids. We live such a long way from the South Coast that it was always a rest from driving and a good meal before the next leg of the journey. We’ve tried the tunnel and whilst it’s quicker and you stay with your dogs in the vehicle, we do still like the experience of the ferry. Even better so now that you can take dogs on deck. It’s also a cheaper option if you’re on a budget 👍🏻

Thanks Julie! Ooh, now there’s a question? It’s each to their own really. The tunnel is a much shorter journey and you stay in your vehicle with your dogs. It’s also more expensive. We like to break our journey up as we live so far away from the south coast and Slaw always needs feeding, so that’s a selling point for us for the ferry.

Hi Ray, it’s horses for courses ferry vs tunnel. We live so far away from the South coast it’s a nice journey breaker. Also, Slaw always needs feeding 🤣 The tunnel is quicker, but you can’t leave your vehicle and it’s more expensive. Swings and roundabouts for both. The air suspension was great for getting in the ferry and also for tipping Helga to empty her grey waste 👍🏻

Hi Paul, the Sat nav is built into the van. It’s a Blaupunkt media system. We also use Google Maps on our phone.

The music doesn’t bother me as much as the road noise when you are driving and speaking. It would be much better if you each had lapel mics when speaking while driving.

New Pet passport EU check the rabies jab it might expire after 1 year French will see it as first time passport we got ours in honfleur
