Trev - this was GREAT! Solid list, and so eloquently spoken and well versed in cinema knowledge. I just saw Casino for the first time last night, I think before I just couldn't sit through the entire thing. I also saw Mulholland Drive in theatres. I was so wigged out by it, but I couldn't stop thinking of it, even to this day. I agree with literally every word you said. Can't wait for the rest.
Hey Trev these are really good. I wish you could expand but I totally get that there is only so much time. I watched both of these the other day & I wanted to drop you a line letting you know how much I enjoyed them. So very much looking forward to the rest of the countdown & to "Schindler's List" whenever you get to them. I'm truly a friend and fan of your work! If I do not touch base with you I would like to wish you and your family a very safe and happy holiday season coming up!!!!!
Thanks mike - glad its up to scratch this far. Its been a chore whittling these films down to 50, i could make another series out of all the films that didnt make the list but i still consider to be among my favourites, but I'm happy with the end results.
I have only just seen Mullholland Drive, and its a great film i wish i had caught sooner. Its reintroduced me to Lynch, and so far, so good. I'm currently working through Twin Peaks, which was amazing, but has gotten a bit samey towards the end of deries 2. Thanks for your comment. Peace!
Cheers Jimmy - its a list that i have wanted to do for a long time, and found difficult, but as i say in my description, my wife devised a spreadsheet and i think that the order was fairly accurate. I did swap a few of the films around. Unfortunately, 50 isnt a lot of films and there are some great films that narrowly missed the list.
Ah, so the list begins! Awesome start so far-I've seen each movie, and have liked or loved all of them. Only seen "Ladykillers" and "Eternal Sunshine" once, but have been wanting to revisit both of them. Robocop has always been a favorite too, saw it when I was young, like yourself, and have always been disturbed by the graphic violence...especially when Murphy "dies". Major surprise with the name check and subscription recommendation-totally awesome man! What other Lynch have you seen?
Very ambitious list. Regretfully I've only seen five of the ones you've listed (I've had "Eternal Sunshine" on my to-see list for a long time). Great to see a rare nod to "Casino". Looking forward to what comes next on your list!
Its a great film, and one i watched when very young, it shocked me with its brutal violence, but i think with age i realised how much more there is to this film.
Spreadsheet? I never would have thought of that. Great list. Unique with so many movies I love. Gonna have to see LadyKillers and Batteries Not Included(never heard of it). Watching Casino on AMC right now(too edited. I should just pop it in). Was just thinking about Mulholland Dr, one of my favorite films of the last 15 years. Just a masterpiece and it's been too long since I've seen Schindler's List.
Great list a lot of my favourites there too. It must have been tough to shave it down to 50 and put them in order. Looking forward to the rest. I just saw Robocop for the first time a few days ago and that is a really fun clever flick for such a silly sounding title.
No worries on the mention, hope it helps to get you some subscribers - you deserve them. Im just getting back into Lynch, and so far have seen Blue Velvet. Thats it, but i have Dune, Elephant Man and Inland Empire to watch soon, trying to track Eraserhead.
Yeah, theres a lot to be said of HD. Havent ever seen Ben Hur though, shameful as it may sound. And yes, i am also looking forward to Lincoln. Day Lewis is a great actor. One of the finest.
Both me and the wife were completely blown away by Twin peaks, telling all our mates how it was the best series we'd seen, but yes, once the Bob story fizzled away, it lost all its edge. Shame.
Yea I watched that series a few months ago as its always been on my watch list as a fan of Lynch and since it's one of my dad's favorite shows. I burrowed the show from him and while it's one of the all time great series, its very flawed. It takes a downward turn in the 2nd half of season 2 where characters are stuck in limbo and are given nothing to do while others get new love interests that detract from the show. Andy/Lucy thing gets old and Windom Earle is no Bob.
