About Drunk History:
Based on the popular web series, Drunk History is the liquored-up narration of our nation's history. Host Derek Waters, along with an ever-changing cast of actors and comedians, travels across the country to present the rich tales that every city in this land has to offer. Booze helps bring out the truth. It's just that sometimes the truth is a little incoherent.

“That sounds racist...”
“I’m sure it was pretty racist....this was we’re like talking like 1913”
🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
The actor playing little Louis has the sweetest smile.
Yes, and I think he's from Black-Ish.
Do you work at an orphanage?😂
Looks like my grandson so handsome
Just his mannerisms made it for me, funny kid and a good actor.
Fun Louis Armstrong fact: one time he was playing in Texas, and this white law student named Charles Black came to the show just to meet girls, he doesn't even know who Louis Armstrong is. But once Armstrong started playing, he was like "Uhhhhh, I think everything I've ever been taught about black people is a lie, because this man is a true genius". So once he was an actual lawyer, he went to the NAACP and was like "hey can I help with anything?" And they were like "Yeah, we're working on this school segregation case." And that's how Louis Armstrong contributed to the outcome of thr Brown v. Board of Education decision!
Not quite, good brother -- Thurgood Marshall was the litigator who successfully argued against segregation at the supreme court after having fought a long and bitter fight five years earlier that made equal pay for white and black teachers mandatory.
The premise of his argument against segregation in the school system at the time was that it was unconstitutional to pay white teachers more than black teachers because black teachers taught in segregated schools.
He prayed the court to dismantle segregation of schools in order to ensure equal pay which they did. The dude you spoke about might have been on the legal team, but we don't celebrate him come black history month because we don't know him.
@@ifeanyinwaneri2840 Oh no, I didn't mean to suggest Charles Black was in charge of the Brown v. Board case, but he was one of the dozens of lawyers who helped put the case(s) together.
what about when Louis Armstrong stopped a war in Africa for a day, just so the two nations could hear him play.
Woooow....Amazing
And so I learned something
- "u think u can ADVANCE me the $5 to buy that cornet?"
- "of course I can LOAN u the $5 for that!"
😂
The boy asked for an advance on his weekly wages, that's a loan. And if your just talking shit you should be ashamed of yourself. He honored that man, his family, and their Jewish heritage for the rest of his life.

History teachers should drink and then take lectures, attendance rates will skyrocket
Attendence Stonks😎
Evidently you've never been to a Philadelphia ppl school 🤗
And tell history closer to the truth!
This is what happens in Another Round (Druk) sorta
tru that. I had a friend who could not only drink a bathload of alc, but was also pasisonate about history and had pockets full of interesting anecdotes.
there were moments at many parties where people would just gather round him and listen, pouring more shots into him.
these drunken lectures were so much more interesting than dry facts at school.
I’m all for that potato salad rant
😆
“White man eating a white ass potato salad!” Lol!😂😃😅
"Were Jewish and we love it" hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
You all just gave me another reason to love Marilyn Monroe even more! 🥰
Me2
Yes, me too! And she was also friends with Dorothy Dandridge.
She grew up an orphan in L.A. she retained her humility and kindness. Damn Marilyn and Ella WE LOVE YOU😇🥰🤩💘
@@WarriorQueenUnicorn 👍🏾
We don't need any specific reason to love her. She deserves more and more love for her role anyway. 😁
I love the marylin /Emma story. There’s so so much women can do for each other as allies, and what we don’t have in common can help to make us stronger.
It's Ella* :)
It’s important to get the focus of the story’s name right. Not just the “white savior.”
@NEGUS MBARKA It's actually a true story.
Sydney Williams exactly! Ella Fitzgerald is a legend and i dont see why people remember marilyn’s name and not hers. 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
@@Oraclep20 Because she´s white, don´t say "I don't see why" it´s because she was white.
What I love about this is you got BTH narrating Sam Cooke and acting as Barry Gordy.
Drunk History is on fire when there's an African American woman on set
Facts!!!!
Tiffany Hadish, Amber Ruffin, Cryssal (the one who did Harriet Tubman, I can't spell) and the rest bring it.
10:07 the way that marilyn and ella looked at the camera is priceless 😂😂
Yes, all the time 😆👍🏾
I've never actually heard Ella Fitzgerald's singing until I just looked it up, and... it gives me chills... How could anyone have voice so beautiful? We are honestly lucky to have recordings of her's
I wonder how the narrators manage to crank out an entire history lesson while being half awake and half able to actually control their movements 😂
Yet another reason why you should love Marilyn Monroe
👍🏾
Marilyn Monroe advocated for Dorothy Dandridge, too. ☺️ ❤️ She and Dorothy Dandridge were friends.
The actor who’s playing Sam Cooke is going places.
Yes!
"go get you a prostituuuuutwe... get you some whiskeeeeeey" lmao
"wait what was that?"
"I dunno, hopes..... dreams" lmao
Paper, boy paperboy all about that paper boy
😂😂😂😂
I’ve been singing “get that ice cube outta ya ass” for so long.
It's Gabourey Sidibe as Ella Fitzgerald! She's such a phenomenal actress.
Y’all should do one for Bob Marley
They should! 🥺
Damien Marley can narate
No Kymani or Rohan should narrate it
Yeahhh but I don’t think Bob Marley sons drink.
@@alexandertracy30 boom
god I love it when the actors break the 4th wall and react to the narrators drunkenness.
Damn, I wish I learnt history like this!
👍🏾
"She was like no. I'm not in love witchoo back. You're not my type. You ugly. I'm not into you." Carl Tart is hilarious.
Hadn't laughed that hard in awhile. The Diana Ross letting Berry Gordy smash her scene was a definite highlight
Never knew about Ella and Marilyn's friendship until today. Love to see women supporting each other ❤️❤️❤️
Dude. I cannot believe Sam Cooke died like this. He's an absolute legend.
"Stevie Wonder can't see shit, but he makes dope music." 😂😂😂
nothing better than eating old skittles while naked cutting your hair at 3 am watching drunk history .
Imagine someone seeings it's a comedy central piece so they click on the video thinking it's all made for laughs and not realizing that it's really part of history.
I don't need to imagine though, I see couple a them in the comment section...hey y'all! 👏🏼👏🏼✔

18:08 this rapid fire exchange was done on the spot while drunk and many great comedians would have been proud to write it.
I turn 21 this year and my dream is to have my first drink on this show and tell the story of Nina Simone. Plz somebody make this happen!!
He failed to mention the Funk Brothers. Without them Motown doesn't exist.
Agree. Potato salad needs to have some colllooooorrr!
I love how they broke that forth wall lmaoo.
07:17 The economics of standing up for each other. Love it!
The fourth wall breaks be killing me 😂😂😂
The Sam Cooke story had me close to tears.
People will try tell his death other ways but the official story was trumped up.
Potato salad ain't yellow? 🤣🤣🤣 love this!!
Ella is just a badass Jazz Vocalist and Vocalist in general. Her solos are legendary. Legendary Vocalist and Legendary Actress working together are BADASS!!! 🤩
the marilyn monroe story got me teared up i got emotional
This show was DUMB expensive but absolutely excellent
Ngl the Ella and Monroe one made me shed a few tears
The Ella impersonation was HILARIOUS!!!!
What was that?
I dunno... hopes... dreams... 😂🤣😂
It's a shame we didn't get to see Sam Cooke's career grow and flourish as it surely would have. But to be fair to Mrs. Franklin (the woman who shot him)...he apparently broke down her office door in a drunk rage looking for Elisa, and then according to Franklin he violently grabbed her. Leading to a grappling match until she eventually shot him in self-defense. This altercation was corroborated by the motel owner who overheard the chaos on the phone and called the police... Which makes A LOT more sense than this portrayal of him just walking up to her half-dressed and getting shot. And Elisa claims that she was taken to motel against her will...which makes her running off while he's in the bathroom make a lot more sense, she said she took his clothes by mistake when she was hastily grabbing her own. But her story was considered questionable since she was later arrested as a prostitute. So who knows...maybe she made that up. But we know how poorly prostitutes are treated both by their patrons and in the eyes of the law. So I wouldn't be so quick to judge. Sam Cooke was a great singer, doesn't mean he was a great man.. Fans and family are always going to deny any wrongdoing on behalf of the deceased...doesn't mean they're right. And look, I mean it's fair to be skeptical about the killing of black men given all the lies we have seen come to light. But in this particular case, I really don't think you should just gloss over the stories of these women who very well could have been victims of serious violence from Cooke. Both vulnerable themselves, an older black lady and a young Asian sex worker. I thought this telling was pretty sexist given the facts we do know and the ones we don't. The fact that the shooting occurred in the manager's office with the door broken down (NOT in the lobby) is enough for me to believe Bertha Franklin's account.
I see what you're saying.... but some of Elisa's accounts were questionable to say the least.... the taken against her will bit especially,... I guess unfortunately we'll never know
It sounds like you're taking everything the media says for face value which is the furthest thing from the truth. If you read Etta James' bio she reveals the truth about what really happened.

That story about Marilyn Monroe and Ella Fitzgerald? Like wow! Who knew? I sure as hell didn't. Very heartwarming and certainly gives me a totally different view of Monroe. She was more that a sex goddess. She was an enlightened soul.
This is a great episode
Loved this lesson
I also want a drink now
They actually got a kid for this😆
Isn’t it the kid from Black-ish?

The story about Berry Gordy was well done compared to a lot of the stories I've heard from Drunk History. Straight through. Not too sloppy. Good job.
4:31 I love me a happy drunk!
Lol. White potato salad. I’m dyin
Motown and "Tight Butts" was killing me until dude doing Sam Cooke (potato salad gotta be yellow).🤣🤣
The sam cook part made me cry. I jdid not know the story, all of this was really good!

It's so fucking adorable how stoked drunk Tymberlee Hill is to tell Ella Fitzgerald's story.
I know Louie but I have to listen to Fitzgerald
This is Good! & funny
I wish they would have showed the bloopers of the actors as well as the process for making an episode from beginning to end.
11:07-16:51 Berry Gordy paternal statal origins is from Oconee, Georgia.
Berry was also a Gangster crook too. He ruin alot of artist also. It was Smokey Robinson and Rick James that kept motown going.
3:49 damn... I thought he got shot 😂
Blacks invented Rock 'n' Roll, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Funk, Blues, Reggae, Breakdancing, and most of the delicious dances in Latin America and South Africa. And there's evidence of black musicians doing grunge, before it was a music word.

Black people don't play bout they're potato salad. I felt that
