Kodo “Mine no Kaze” (Full Version / “Evermore” Programme Piece)

We filmed this full version of “Mine no Kaze” at Kodo Village to give you a sneak peek at our upcoming “Evermore” performances at Asakusa Public Hall this summer.
“Mine no Kaze” is a Kodo piece based on “Misaka Mago Uta,” a folk song from Ehime Prefecture for horsemen traveling over the Misaka Pass. “Mine” means the peak or ridge of a mountain, and “kaze” means wind. The lyrics depict the scenery and feelings you could imagine a horseman would encounter on their journey: the moon’s beauty, a gentle breeze, and strong determination within. Kodo has enjoyed playing many versions of this popular piece over the years, arranging it in unique ways with different cast formations and instruments.
