  • Sorry in advance about the wind noise. We tried to remove as much as we could in post as well as adding subtitles
    In today's video, we go over the parts in a Block II that we consider to be a "Do All Gun". We'll also take you out to the range and push the limits of what the 5.56 cartridge in a 14.5" barrel can do.
    As always, make sure to stay subbed to the channel for more content like this. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comment section, or dm us on our Instagram.

    SOPMODs are sick! The weight is actually an advantage and disadvantage.
    Yes they’re heavy to carry around. I don’t do patrols so I don’t care. The weight just eats recoil. Especially with a JP spring and a nice brake.

    It's nice to see the overall similarities to my "do-all" rifle. Mine started as a V-Seven Enlightened, because it's accurate, reliable, and helps keep the weight down, and chambered in 6mm ARC, because I think it bypasses .223/5.56 in every way that counts, and it's easy to handload for. I started with their fluted 14.5" barrel and got it pinned so I didn't need to worry about any NFA nonsense. It's got a HUXWRX can, a SureFire, a MAWL, a S&B 1-8× topped with a Trijicon dot, a handstop, and a sling. It can make 1000m on a good day, it's handy enough to move around in my house or my truck, it'll handily put down a muley or a whitetail in season or coyotes(no hogs local to me) when they're a problem, and although I never want to need it to, I expect it'll warn away the two-legged predators as well.
    The one thing I will recommend is a QD bipod. Sometimes, a bipod is handy, but a lot of other times, it's just weight and bulk that's really adept at getting hung up on stuff. I keep a bipod in my safe, and a spare in my truck when I invariably forget it. My overall goal was keeping it under 10lbs loaded with 20 rounds, and as long as the bipod is off, it makes the cut. It is the rifle that I want 95% of the time.

    • @projectblackhills
      @projectblackhills  Před 3 měsíci

      Nice man. That's a solid setup. Literally the only reason this bipod isn't qd is the qd version is much bulkier than the nonqd. I have a small tool on my rifle at all times that I am able to take the bipod off if I need. You're right tho, it's off and on 50/50. Thanks for commenting!

    I know this video was made quite some time ago, looking to make a very similar build to yours for a perfect everyday any situation kind of rifle. Specifically with the DD RIS II. My question is, how do you like it. I saw it on a retail M4A1 at a show a few weeks ago and since then it’s sparked the idea to build a block II like build. Trying to stay more budget friendly but that FDE with the overall build and dynamics of the upper itself to me is unmatched.

      Gas in the face isnt awful. It's tuned alright. Sprinco Blue spring with and I alternated between an H2 and an H3. Both weights shoot reliably with it and I honestly can't tell a difference in terms of gas or recoil impulse. H3 might be a bit better and I think that's what is still in it right now. I honestly haven't checked in a while lol. Go with the RIS2. RIS3 is hot but you cant beat the 2.

    • @projectblackhills
      @projectblackhills  Před 4 měsíci

      Unfortunately I don’t have a direct comparison between the two. I would say the DD is definitely more consistently accurate though. But I also don’t think for the price of DD barrels I would just go out and buy one standalone. I got this with the upper. If I were to buy a barrel by itself I’d probably go centurion, criterion, or if I had the cash, noveske or hodge.

    I can’t help but question when people say they leave their LPVO on medium power why they thought getting it over say a Leup 3.6-18 was the better option. The capability you are giving up to have two 1x and save like 5 oz is crazy. You could have had 8 more top end power and parallax adjustment. It’s just not a good option.

      I’ve went up to 10x and eventually went back down to my 1-6x. The eye box at 10x was too tight so I always ended up leaving it half way with worse quality. So I’d rather take a 1-6x with better quality over a 1-10x that I’m just going to leave on 6x and try to reach 5-600 with

    • @projectblackhills
      @projectblackhills  Před 7 měsíci +12

      I can understand that. 100%. The main reason I went with the vudu 1-10 over a mk5 is not necessarily weight, it was more length. This is almost 2 inches shorter than the mk5. I'm working with a 12 inch rail that needs a place to clamp and actuate a tape switch, while also keeping the ir unit on the top. The vudu has proven to me that for the maximum range I would be shooting this rifle, it is capable. The eyebox at 10x isn't really that bad if you're prone or mounted up on a barricade. For me, it's the best option. Which is what we say repeatedly in the video. What works for me, might not work for you. But I've hit 8-900 yards with this exact setup CONSISTENTLY. I will never need anymore range than that with a 556 rifle.

      @BreezyBeary Před 7 měsíci

      2.5-10 is the sweet spot for I believe for optics. Put a cant red dot on it and you are set for 10 yards to 800.

    • @7mmalltheway
      @7mmalltheway Před 6 měsíci

      I have the same set up and I would never go back to red dot sight or anything else.
      Most of recent LPVO comes with BDC reticle option. Does it really work?? Yessssss! Even to 600 yards. I was very surprised and impressed. I don’t want to adjust the turret in the stressful situations when I really have to shoot someone at 600 yards.quickly. If I want to snipe the bad guy? I have a M24 and 6.5 CM rifle. But probably I can not carry them all on the doomsday.
      Plus with LPVO’s 1X you can do CQB just like a red dot sight. Regular scopes are too finicky to get focus right quickly, especially with fine cross hairs. That is why I chose SFP over FFP.
      This is also another reason why military has been moving onto LPVOs.

  • @ProudFudd

    I have nearly the exact same gun. Only a little cheaper, without all the goodies...
    Same Brownell's M4A1 socom barrel DD upper.
    LMT lower.
    B5 Sopmod stock. (I took off the LMT Sopmod furniture bc I'm a cheap bastrd).
    Fudd Hogue finger grip.
    Magpul VFG, the Tango Down is too heavy for me.
    Sometimes magpul bipod, (that Atlas is beautiful I need one).
    A Protac HL-X sometimes, I don't do NV.
    (The Streamlight Protac HL-X and new HL-X Pro are the poor man's outdoor champions).
    For glass,
    A 1.7 inch ADM qd titanium lever mount with a Steiner PX4i.
    1.5 ADM with a 1-8 Gen2 Vortex Strike Eagle sometimes.
    1.5 ADM qd mount with an AGM Adder TS35-640.
    The Adder is the star of the show.
    I can identify at 1500 meters on a DDM5V1 I have. All the scopes were bought factory seconds/sales/etc.
    Anyway, great choices on a real nice gun.
    I don't think I can shoot anywhere near what you can, so maybe mine is defective!

    This video is a good indicator of how RECCE rifles and “do all” rifles are not the same thing. I’ve never seen a more “do all” rifle in my entire life. You have close, intermediate, and long range with a 10x optic and a bipod at that. You have night fighting capabilities, a suppressor, and a magwell just in case you didn’t feel like you had enough attachments. The craziest part of all that isn’t the number of attachments, it’s the fact that they’re all going on the heaviest possible upper south of 16 inches in the Block 2. It would be utterly miserable to take this on a 6 hour patrol.

    What grip?

  • @Jack-fq6mq
    @Jack-fq6mq Před 3 měsíci

    Sweet rifle, but my only gripe: if you're running nods with this rifle why have a canted dot, let alone a T2? Why not a piggybacked T2/RMR or a canted RMR (if you just really hate piggybacks and/or passive aiming).
    If you're running nods, you know you cant use canted to passively aim, and you obviously know that the T2 is the best nv passive aiming red dot on the market. You also know the T2 adds more weight than an RMR - yet you still went canted - and with a T2 at that.
    I would think if you wanted to run a T2 it would be piggybacked and used for passive aiming under nods, not primarily for a backup aiming system, because if you didn't want to passive aim (just wanted a backup system), then the sensible choice would be a canted RMR for bulks sake.
    Its the worst of both worlds because you're adding unnecessary bulk while foregoing passive aiming capability. A LAM is great, and I run them on all of my rifles (besides my GPR), but i always have a way to passively aim, because if you ever find yourself in a life or death situation against another person with nods, the LAM is a beacon for them.

    • @projectblackhills
      @projectblackhills  Před 3 měsíci +1

      You're 100% right. Passive aiming through a canted dot sucks. At the time, I preferred it for aiming, but it doesn't work for nods. It's been replaced with a top mounted P2.

This is not the rifle I’d prefer to be taking shots out at that distance but it’s nice to know I can do it.
