    5:29 sick of hearing this trope "Rishi gave you furlough payments", as though every chancellor of the last 25 years would not have done the exact same thing. He should not get a pat on the back for behaving 'normal'.

      @@randomname285 For the first, he doesn't, and the second, not going when Truss lost her budget says it all. Will we even see another election in the next 13 months? His plans to do away with the Human Rights Act go beyond immigration, you should see the contract they tried forcing on Cummings' weirdos and misfits - as close to indenture slavery as it gets.

      Labour spends all the money and then the Tories are forced to cut costs everywhere. A decade later and everyone complains about Tories being forced to cut spending, as the recessions and poor economy weren't caused by Labour in the first place!

    • @Boghopper9999
      @Boghopper9999 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@ShreN_ Spent all the money? What a nonsensical thing to say. Budgets are revised on an ongoing basis as the money raised by taxation or borrowing and money spent on expenditure, continue to rise and fall, based on the actions of the government of the day. The amount of money in the economy is literally unlimited (quantitive easing) but the value of that money will depend on the perception of the trajectory of the country issuing it.
      Did Labour leave The Conservatives with a suboptimal balance sheet, yes, and now The Conservatives are returning the favour.

    What would happen if they dump VAT from 20% back down to , say, 10%

    • @Boghopper9999
      @Boghopper9999 Před 6 měsíci

      We would lose lots of money in reduced taxation (not 50% as people would spend more if things are cheaper, but they would not double their spending just because some things might be 10% cheaper assuming the retailers even pass along all the savings).
      Also as it would increase consumption, inflation would increase more) which would likely negate any price reductions).
      Very simplified explanation I know, but broadly speaking this is why the Bank of England has been raising interest rates, to help cool down the economy. Tax rises would have a similar effect, but of course the politicians get the blame when that happens (much more palatable to blame the BOE)

    🧳 The party has promised to reduce illegal immigration but lacks clear answers on how they will address legal migration.
    🏠 The Conservative Party's lack of focus on housing and infrastructure may alienate younger, less affluent voters.
    💡 Additional Insights and Observations:

    Normally, I like this show, and as a piece of entertainment, your energy and chemistry remained. However,
    this felt like you were trying to dress this government up as being something at least moderately desirable when its clear to the country that its not only 13 years of incompetence, it's 13 years of being taken for a ride. I know the FT leans right, as pretty much all old print news does, but these pieces are much more enjoyable and sustainable if you are balanced.
