I really like this new format, and wow, I love how Jen's SoB look, that army calls to me and if I were to start one, I would 100% took a page or two out of how she does them
I absolutely love the blood lake thing and the Khorne adjacent comment gave me an idea for a conversion.
Khorne could really want these guys but they are able to stay devout. Having a sister with a blood letter whispering in her ear while shes praying would make a pretty awesome cannoness or similar.
In the lore lately Khorne has been doing a lot of trying to corrupt people by literally just whispering to them. The scene where he's trying to get Rogal Dorn to give into bloodlust is a favourite.
"I really like the Sisters of Battle, but maybe they could be worse?" gosh that lake of blood sounds horrible, what a wonderful faction! and that scenic base is so good.

I do like the format, it helps that Jenn looks very comfortable in front of the camera. And the little TT Combat report at the end is helpful as I am using DZ Commander figures for Epic games (oPR is also developing a Epic SciFi game) and the design ethos of the humans has always attracted me, if not the game itself

sorry if some one had already said it but the sarcophagus looking thing on the front of the repentance engine is an iron maiden, it it has spikes inside and i also like that version better also everything looks cool

Cool Sisters army! I also struggle with paint schemes. When the Warhammer 40k 9th edition Indomitus box dropped and Guy at Midwinter Minis posted Sandstone Necron video, I really, really liked it, but resisted copying it. I really wanted something "my own" (I was thinking a sort of black and orange cooling magma scheme), but I couldn't get over the speed of his scheme, or the skeleton bone color which totally fit the models, plus all of my other army projects were on the dark side and I wanted something striking and new, so I finally broke down and painted up about 1500 or so points of desert stony Necrons (over a long weekend no less) to go with my Xenomorph-colored Tyranids, starfield Drukhari, and temperate rain forest Orks (my main army).
Now I have to decide what to paint that Sisters army I've slowly been collecting....

I think most people are mad at being gaslit then female custodes, most people thought the silent sister's were the female custodes

Okay but now I’d love to see Jen try make a diorama of sisters beside the blood lake…
First of all: Awesome paint job on the sisters of battle. The burning souls look amazing, and I think Celestine kitbashed is just awesome and awe-inspiring. Also agreeing on the weird torture stuff being... well, weird. I feel like the Iron Maiden-style sarcophagi are waaaay more awesome.
Second up: I more or less agree with the female custodes being a thing. I don't dislike it or hate it, I just feel like they make their fanbase look stupid by retconning it and saying "Yeah they were always men and women, didn't you notice?". I feel like there is a line to be drawn from Amazon getting involved and Blackrock making a pretty massive contribution to the company that kinda swayed them into more DEI/ESG for the sake of mainstreaming our hobby. Especially now that Henry Cavill's show is being worked out.
Third: I just hope that this is where the forced inclusivity stops. We don't need male sisters of battle or female space marines. With the Custodes, I kinda get it since they were all hand-sculpted by the emperor himself. But for Space marines, it's always been common knowledge that men were the only people who could be converted into space marines for relatively obvious reasons. As for sisters of battle. I mean, they're called "Sisters of battle", not "Misters of battle". The same can be said about space marines. They're called "Battle Brothers", not "Battle Mothers". So yeah, I hope the forced inclusivity stuff from Blackrock and Amazon ends with the custodes as there's plenty of it throughout the entire setting.

Good video, great lore for your sisters army. I disagree with your stance on female custodes, they will not be a part of my lore in how I view the game. The Sisters of Silence are great as well as SOB, I feel they have now been discounted. In my opinion this is politics. Also from what I have watched most CZcamsrs that receive GW products before others are going with it as positive. I have at least 300 (probably way more)Black Library books(40K and Fantasy) for 20 years reading novels. To Abrubtly change something that is in established lore including the codex’s is a political hack appeasement drop. #2 and #3 investors are Black Rock and Vanguard. This is my opinion to each his own hobby. Again great back ground on you SOB and great paint job.

gathering storm book 1 and the triumphrant of the imperium (celestine with gemini, grayfax and bellisarius cawl) were released in january 2017 and it would be 2018 before we'd get anything meaningful until after the daughters of the burning rose kickstarter went live and at the adepticon not long after gw put out a trailer saying "fortune favours the faithful" basicly saying sisters of battle are coming which seemed to be a responce to a community survey gw put out in 2016. gw would then go and start doing sister of battle bulletins from feb to oct of 2019 showing tidbits of what was to come. in june 2019 we would get a preview model for the range in amilia novena which last i saw was still avalible. gw would revisit the sister of battle diaries later in 2021 to talk about new models that were in the works for that new sisters of battle codex that was in the works to be released a bit over a year after the previous non limited ed sister of battle codex had been released
as a side note i did reference that first bulletin and amilia novena when making my current sister of battle cosplay which i made the torso and first 2 itterations of vambraces inspired off (i would go an make newer ones during the plague times)

Great showcase video, my favorite parts of the army are the Darksouls like dudes and specially the Imperial Knight, I do remember waiting for the second video about the knight as soon as I saw the first one.
Also I do think it would be a great idea to convert those Penitent suits into a Big Daddy from the Bioshock video game series.
Finally I personally don't mind this new bit of Lore as long as GW does something really cool with this new character, maybe even a new model, that would be awesome , but I consider that as a community we should not over negatively react to this new lore, the only thing that those kind of super negative exagereted reactions do is to show the WH community as a toxic or negative fanbase to possible new fans of Warhammer.
i would love to see a full Tau Army or horror themed Tyranids army. I feel like Tau needs more love.

I loved Jen's SoB, so freaking cool and creative. I like the format, but the title kinda mislead me because I didn't know why we were talking about updates. But I know CZcams titling you have to do a certain amount of gaming the system.
The theory is we have a segment and then a news segment, and the video is titled the first segment... But maybe we shouldn't!

According to the Codex, noble houses of Terra donate their Baby Sons in hopes they will one day be Custodes
I said this to someone else - this is generally how GW has always updated the lore. The lore around the primaris was essentially an anomaly in how they explained it. Usually GW just adds things and says it's always been that way. They don't often explain, go back and retcon, or create a story for how it was added in the timeline. For me that's one of the things I love about the setting, because it's always evolving and changing subtly over time.
Definitely no problem here either and some people are clearly blowing it out of proportion, but.. What if they started adding male Sisters of Battle? They wouldn't, because it never goes *that* way, but people would (and should) be justifiably bothered by it.
Especially with, as you said, how lazily it was added.
I also think the comment in the video about "For people who've never talked to a woman before" is a really petty thing to say about people who do care about this. Some people want their lore to matter.

Bit of feedback for the mid-week show, and it comes from someone who has little idea about CZcams production, so if it's not viable, that's cool, but here goes:
I do really like the both sides of this new format show: the show-and-tell (or main feature), and the news, but wondering if you've considered splitting them into 2 uploads?
Record in a single session if that's easier, but maybe release the news early in the week to drive hype for the weekend's releases, and the show-and-tell later in the week.
Might help keep the show-and-tell aspects evergreen, and keeping discussion between it, and your news items separate.

Been looking forward to seeing your current army come together since starting the project. A well deserved applause and cant wait to see whats next for this army and future armies with this type of thematic energy. As far as the Custodes controversy goes, I wouldve preferred GW not be lazy and give a lore reason as to why there are females now, maybe Cawl developed a way for that to happen, wouldve been cooler. I dont agree with the gaslighting of them always being there, when they clearly havent, that seems to be most peoples complaint specifically. I just hope this isnt GW's way of quitely removing the sisters of silcence as they are my best part of the faction and why i even have them and hope for new models
Ive been in this hobby for 20 years, until the heresy books in 2008-2015 - nobody really cared or talked about custodes.
In this era, custodes are rarely featured and only 2 or 3 are ever named, they never go into their creation in detail, and are inconsistent in their capabilities - often comparing them to space marines, but a bit better, then comparing them to mini primarchs. It takes 20 books for them to start to make sense of it. This stuff is also mutable and it's also not been around as long or as ironclad as people are making out.

@@TabletopTime yeah it just goes to show GW can piss off any group of people in this community at a moments notice. If its not model/game related, its lore, the website, etc. It does get exhausting what seems like week after week or month after month GW is doing something stupid and backwards. I do agree Custodes have a lack of lore and I think a lot of that helps with how mysterious and secretive Custodes are lore wise. Maybe that was on purpose, then again the HH novels have slowly been piecing things together for a wide variety of factions and characters. I guess I shouldnt expect more from GW and well doesnt seem to be the case still.

these look fantastic. You did some amazing work with them Jen. Sisters of Battle are just so cool and I want them to get even more love in the future. To me they are the quintessential 40K army and should be the first faction one thinks of when you mention 40K (saying that as a Grey Knight fan).
I do think the non sister stuff like that make priests, like the penitent engins, arch-flagellates need to be moved over to either the Imperial Guard or Agents of the Imperium.
As for the Custodes thing. There have been a few times where it stated that they were all men. Now lore can change and I don’t mind that but it’s how it’s done, why it’s done, and how it affects the overall setting that matters. How it was done just sucked. A short story and then GW saying “no they’ve always been there” and then blocking and deleting criticism of it is one of the worst ways they could’ve handled it. It was obviously done for political reasons. The vast majority of people either didn’t want them or don’t care (the don’t care group is the vast majority), it was done to appease a minority of people who want things to change to fit their beliefs. Not a great reason. If you wanted to add them because you think they’d be cool and you can tell more stories with them then that’s not really a problem. As for how it affects the lore? It really doesn’t to me. It’s not like adding women in space marine chapters.
Along with that people are upset about this change because of “misogyny” or because they haven’t seen or touched a women ever. Those are bad faith straw-men arguments. I see plenty of married men and men in relationships who are upset as well as a ton of women who are upset (heck they seem to be one ones the most upset at this).
Monks and Nuns. Space Marines and Sisters are perfect as the equal poster children of the universe.

Regarding "power" with custodes... well.
Custodes power is down a bit, orks power is insanely through the roof. Worse than that, the custodes book is *boring*.
You have a detachment about sisters of silence. They have one kit that builds 3 units. That's a joke.
Then a character detachment. So the regular units do nothing different... which is also bad.
It's really 2 detachments. And those 2 detachments don't feel amazing.
Orks and Tau both feel meta defining. Trying to create a list to beat 5++ boys horde, 2+ 5++ 4+++ meganobz spam, dread mob damage 4 ranged AND lethal hits tau is going to be miserable. Custodes just kinda feel bland and like they'll take a back seat in the meta.

Hi can we keep the box as a presenter.
I'm a girl. Two of my friends in the warhammer game group are as well. We talked about this during our last session when we heard about it. End all consensus ran something like this;
We don't care what's between the custodians legs. If there's supporting lore then it's fine.
We got three all woman factions we could think of off the top of our heads, not counting the sub-factions to those faction, so we don't care if marines are all boys. Fair is fair.
The models don't need to be female to bring us in, because we've been here a while already.
Anyone bitching, and throwing snide comments EITHER side on this needs to count to ten, and go touch grass.
That aside, the sisters look great, Gen. Can't wait to see how you do those models you're not so jazzed about, and make them more to your liking. If you're going for demon possession in the blood bourn theme, then you might want to look at some of BB's fodder enemies. There's some good design inspiration to work with there, and demons come in many shapes and sizes. It may help to play with the fact that not all demons that turn up are aligned with the big four to give yourself some wiggle room in the design.

If everyone can't agree on females or not, I think everyone can agree how GW did it wrong.
@@KnudAutlermann It's how GW have always done things. Their lore is fragmentary, it grows slowly with small additions and nothing is really corrected or retconned. I think it's totally fine how they've done it - why should they make a big deal out of it if the female custodes have always been there?
@@KnudAutlermann The reason why there haven't been female Custodes before is basically out of lore, Real Life reasons. It is also why they weren't mentioned before BUT there never has been lore which said they cannot have women. So there is, as far as I am concerned, no need for a book explaining what happened. Also, GW stated with this update that female Custodes always existed, so they cannot write a book about why it changed as in universe, nothing changed.
Personally I look at it like this, most likely the amount of female Custodes is pretty low, it will not be a 50/50 split. So if only 5% or whatever is female then it makes sense that from the fragmented universe which is 40K we haven't heard about them before. Now we finally do and I am all for it. In AoS I like the daughters of Khaine, in 40K one of my armies is sisters of Battle. Will I buy into Custodes because they have women? hmmmm most likely no, but it doesn't hurt that there are some.
@@The_Captain40k Well to be fair, you can present something that's always been a thing in a way that feels unsatisfying, or in a way that feels like it was shoehorned in rather than always was.
For custodies it makes sense. They're not made with gene seed to the best of my knowledge. They're more hand crafted master pieces meant to be the pinacol of what a human can become.
@@Morrodin182 I wanted a Custodes army before I learned this. It's not because of any sort of sexism, but because I genuinely hate GW's take on female warriors. In Age of Sigmar, I love the inclusion of female warriors, but hate the boob-plate and metallic heals. I had over 2k points worth of the old stuff before their new update. Now all of my stuff is being discarded in the new edition. The same goes for the Sisters of Battle/Silence, Daughters of Khaine, and a few others. I love what they did with the Imperial Guard and Cities of Sigmar ranges because there is a distinction between the two, but at the end of the day both genders are warriors.
When Custodes get a range re-lease, I have a feeling they will follow this same path. If they don't then I will respect them for it and continue collecting Custodes.
Jenn I really love the lore for your sister. The whole idea of the sacraments being taken is brilliant. That is some amazing painting, I hope my Sisters army looks half as good when I start them. Really, the whole TTT team always knocks it out of the park with everything you all do, but I cannot state enough just how impressive your army is. Especially the display piece. Looking forward to see the army expand on the channel. Great work, keep it up!
Battle report? Pretty please? Over the years you've made so many amazing armies, terrains, etc. it'd be a shame not to put that beautiful stuff to good use.
Not just competitive players complaining, casual players and other content creators have been reporting a significant dip in power. As in, players looking at skipping 10th or playing older editions.
That's a shame, I had csm through late 7th and 8th so I guess I'm too used to awful rules

Yeah, sometimes an Edition can just suck for a Faction. This is just not something Players that started with Custodes have a lot of experience with. And that's without touching on the new lore, which respectfully I think could have been done much better and much, much more well-received than it has been. I do wonder if the smaller number of Detachments in the Codex is because the rest will be in a later Armybook. Sort of like the previous Edition's Orks vs Space Wolves expansion. And that release will have the missing Detachments and the new Femstodes Models
