Backpacking The Strawberry Mountain Wilderness | Day 2-3

- In mid-September I went backpacking in the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness which is in the Malheur National Forest here in Oregon. This was an absolutely amazing 2 day trip and I had so much footage from our hikes that I broke this up into a two part video. Here is Day 2 and 3 of our trip. On the 14th after work we drove to the town of Prairie City and camped and the next morning drove up to the Strawberry Lake trailhead. See what we did on Day 1 of our trip here: • Backpacking The Strawb...
On day 2 we hiked to Strawberry Falls, Little Strawberry Lake and then we summited Strawberry Mountain. After that we did a partial loop over to Wildcat Basin and saw Strawberry Mountain from a totally different side than from where we approached from. We arrived back at our camp just as the sun was setting and the reflection on the lake was so beautiful!

Oh my that mountain view on the lake!!
Yea it was a pretty magical ending to the day.
We were there last Memorial Day. Got our butts kicked by a big thunderstorm , marble sized hail and massive wind gusts under a weirdly dark green sky. We had to retreat to a hotel in John Day. But we dried out and hit it again the next day and loved it. I’ll definitely be heading back to that wilderness in the future. Thanks for the video.
It’s such an amazing place for sure!!!
I love the Strawberry Range!
Me too!
Oh this brings back good memories I was there that summer as well!
Seriously one of my favorite places that I got to explore.
That was beautiful
Tremendous video. I especially liked the leech in your water. A little extra protein never hurt. Hahaha
Aaaaah is that what it is??? Yuck!!!!!
@@HikeOregon I have found them in a lot of streams and ponds in the mountains. I'm glad I have never found one that is the size of the ones I saw as a kid while watching the classic movie, "Stand By Me."
loved this video
Thanks Jim!
hi If I purchase a shirt from you will you sign the back with your name in big letters?
The T-shirt and mug orders don’t actually get processed by me. They get handled by the company who makes the shirts, so I never even see them. The orders that I process are my books, stickers and postcards.
I would hike your trail in a second! 😍
Wow. What a gorgeous place. On the list.
It is a pretty spectacular place!!
Nice video, and very nice views.
Thanks for watching!!
That was great, these are the type of hikes that I enjoy watching and learning from. Thanks
It was so fun!! And what beauty from the summit there!!!
Please make more videos like this! These hiking and backpacking vlogs are so inspirational.
Thanks Isla!! Unfortunately this was the last backpacking trip of the season, but there will be a few more day hiking vlogs coming throughout the winter.
A happy, feel good video that ends with a smile. Well done!
Thank you!
Can't put my finger on it exactly but I really enjoyed this video. It was a "Wonderful, wonderful" video too! Thank YOU right back.
Great video! The combination of gorgeous scenery and music was perfect.
Thanks so much!!!
The little critter in your water bag looks like a nematode.
Another great video. I just love your channel. thanks for posting.
Thanks so much Jim!
Gorgeous video as always!
Thanks!
Nice hike, very dry and looked cold for September
We were at 6200-9000 feet elevation so it’s definitely cold there in mid September.
Absolutely incredible landscapes !! like on another planet !!!
wonderful
I think this is a leech in a water filter O_o
It kind of looked like a leech to me as well but that makes me want to throw up. Lol
oh ok
that's to bad. id love to have you autograph
If you order a sticker I do send a personalized car with it and I sign the card ;)
Awesome video. Have always wanted to go up to the summit and now that my kids are older I’m wanting to check it out. How long did it take you to get to the top?
A couple of hours since we started at Strawberry Lake. It'll take longer if you start from the trailhead. It's pretty steep and the trail is rocky in some spots, but just take it slow and take in the views and the kids will love it!
Oh perfect. That’s what I’d like to do is start fresh in the morning from the lake. Thank you
So thankful for this video, as I will be going this weekend but don't know anyone personally who has hiked it and am a little nervous. What was the most challenging part?
There’s nothing super challenging about the area. Hiking up to the summit of strawberry mountain was steep and some of the hillsides have steep drop offs but I wouldn’t consider it challenging.
@@HikeOregon That's a relief. Thanks so much!
‘Twas a leech.
Looks amazing. Have you thought about getting a 4K camera?
I just bought the filming camera I’m using not even a year ago and it was very expensive. Unless it breaks or someone gifts me a new setup I probably will not invest in another filming camera at this point. This takes great footage and it’s nice and small for backpacking. CZcams isn’t that important to me for me to upgrade gear all the time.
@@HikeOregon I hear you.
The critter in your water looks like a leech.
That’s what I thought too. Yuck!!!
