  • The number below the barcode is called the Global Trade Item Number (GTIN, formerly EAN). It is a kind of fingerprint for goods on the World Wide Web and in bricks-and-mortar retail and makes each product unmistakable. "The GTIN enables customers to make simple price comparisons and retailers to have more efficient internal warehouse processes. The better the product data, the easier it is for customers to find a very specific item they are looking for." (Michael Atug, digital rockstar) - and without GTINs, no entry on marketplaces like Amazon or eBay! By the way, the GTINs come from the official provider GS1 Germany. www.gs1.de/gtin
