It's Thursday And Today We're The Fortunate One...
"Fortunate Son", by the American rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR), was written by front-man, singer-songwriter lead guitarist John Fogerty. It's the first song on side two of their fourth studio album 'Willy and the Poor Boys'. It was recorded in the latter half of 1969 at Wally Heider's Studio in San Francisco. As a single, it was released as the B side ("Down On the Corner" was the A side) in September 1969. 'Willy and the Poor Boys' was released on Nov 2, 1969.
When the song was released, CCR was already one of the hottest rock bands in the world, having scored three consecutive #2 singles and the #1 album 'Green River'. 'Willy and the Poor Boys' reached #3 on the Billboard 200 chart. It was #2 in Australia, Canada and Norway, #10 in the UK, #11 in Japan, #25 in Germany and #1 in France. "Fortunate Son" hit #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, #2 in Australia and #10 in Germany.
SongFacts describes the song as "an anti-establishment song of defiance and blue-collar pride, both anti-Washington and against the Vietnam War. Fogerty said. "It's the old saying about rich men making war and poor men having to fight them."" To avoid being drafted and sent to Vietnam, both Fogerty and drummer Doug Clifford had enlisted in the Army Reserves and were discharged in 1968.
Fogerty recalled to American Songwriter magazine in January 2013: "When I felt it was about ready to hatch, I went into my bedroom and just sat down to write. The whole thing happened in about 20 minutes. That just poured out."
From 1970 there was increasing dissent in the band as the other members felt it was becoming a one-man show for John Fogerty. His older brother Tom left in 1971. After four years of hits, CCR disbanded in 1972. John became involved with legal battles with his record label which sued him for breach of contract in 1973. He settled by signing over to Fantasy Records all rights to the CCR songs and recordings. He refused to perform any of the CCR songs until briefly in 1987 when he performed at the Palomino Club in LA. Fantasy was sold to Concord Records in 2004 and, in a goodwill gesture, restored John's song ownership.
Tom Fogerty passed away in 1990 and John remains distant from the two surviving members Doug Clifford and bassist Stu Cook. In May 2013, Fogerty said he'd be open to a reunion but, in September 2017, Clifford again ruled out any chance - "It would have been great twenty, twenty-five years ago. It’s way too late now."
Sunday, in most countries, is Fathers' Day. Share some music with your dad or, if you're a dad or grandad, check out what your kids and grandkids listen to. Music has to live and grow - particularly in these times. Stay safe and see you again next week!

A sad story too often repeated. Ego getting in the way of creativity. There are those who balk at politics and social movements in popular music but isn't that where most popular music comes from. From Woody Guthrie and his son Arlo, Pete Seager, Dylan, Beaze, and others.

THIS song is an anthem to a whole generation for men and women…the world was in turmoil with an unpopular war raging in Vietnam and surrounding countries and the young people of the US were just not having it. CCR nailed it with this song and it holds up over time as an iconic tribute to a more turbulent era. You can’t hear this song without the image of a Huey helicopter flying over the jungle tree tops… When young people like Sina take the time to LEARN the song and introduce it to a new generation of listeners, well, it lets those who lived the older times know that they were not forgotten. Thank you as always Sina.

I have often commented on her musical ability and many times I've clicked to comment, but just backed out because often there isn't enough words to describe her. Sina Rocks and she knows, that myself as a general fan, is proud of her hard work and what she has been able to accomplish, being so young and full of talent. I'd like to see her achieve a Doctored in Music. But that's up to her. That would take a lot of work on her part, but it's only obvious she can achieve it. I'm glad I found her channel because she does make me smile as you mentioned, every time I see her, but I know she has tough things to deal with in her daily life too, just like everyone else and so it seems to me sometimes, a little unfair that we get so many smiles and can't give them back in return. I just hope the comments we give back can make her smile (and I'm going to say it because I've never said it before, now don't blush Sina) I hope my comments can give you a smile, as pretty as you are, because you deserve it! 😃😀☺😉 Thanks for the great song. Love the solo at the end. Take care and stay safe and healthy! I hope everyone in your family is well. See ya. Jpol. Just South of Detroit Mi.

Sina, you are a beautiful woman, a beautiful person and an incredible talent. This will probably be a little long, and I’m sure you might not be able to spend the time to read it but your music means so much to me that I just wanted to write it anyway. I grew up painfully shy and was one of those kids that floated through high school totally invisible to most of the guys and all of the girls. In 1963 my neighborhood buddies needed a bass player for their newly formed rock band. At the time there were virtually no bands in town but we taught ourselves to play mostly instrumentals. Then the Beatles hit the US and our world blew up. The music was unstoppable. Even though I was still pretty invisible (you know, the whole bass player thing) the music gave me a sense of purpose and self satisfaction that literally filled my soul. God, I loved the music. We never had any plans to make it big but we sure had a lot of fun. With the band members moving on and getting married we broke up in 1969 on good terms (we were all good friends anyway). In my city we had a large community center and throughout the seventies and early eighties nearly every single touring group came through our town and I saw them all live. My love for the music began to fade in the early nineties and I lost it all eventually. I even quit listening to the radio in my car. I recently found your channel and you have touched me very deeply. I realized that I didn’t lose my music, the music lost me. You are a living playlist of all that I loved in the music. I hope you might understand how much you have meant to me. I especially love the way you seek out young talent and bring them into the golden age of music. I know you get a lot of fans that want to meet you and that just isn’t possible, especially for me. However, if I had a choice I would love to sit in the corner and just listen to you practice. Keep the rock and roll alive and thank you so much for what you do. Love ya kid, Gary

Ya, we broke up around the time Abby Road debuted (if I remember correctly). We mostly just played parties and school dances so most of our playlist consisted of feel good dance music. Lots of Beatles and our favorite British Invasion stuff, Paul Revere and the Raiders along with stuff like Mitch Ryder and assorted upbeat R&B and Motown. If it was fun and good to dance to it was on our list. I am now 72 years old and have lived a full and wonderful life and I still consider being in the band the best thing I ever did. What a wonderful time of my life.

Everyone had their own reasons to listen but it all came back to the guys on the battle field. There's another song by Crosby, Still, Nash and Young called, For What It Worth, I'm sure you know this song but if not here goes. Well this addresses the kids back home. Miss Sina during the 60's America was embroiled in the Viet Nam war. A lot of rock bands were putting out songs protesting against the war. Thats not a bad thing. The Viet Nam war was heavily protested by college students also. Crosby Stills Nash and Young came out with a song called Ohio in 1970 to protest the killing of 4 college students by national guard troops called in by the govenor during a war protest rally at Kent state university in Ohio.To really understand the gravity of these songs you must first understand the state of mind of a country in the mist of an unpopular war.It was a time when people like Martin Luther King Jr. Were also protesting for equal rights in America. I'm sad to say that struggle still continues today. That said I'm very glad you chose to do this song as always it was a great job.

Thanks Sina, you gave us an irresistible cover again, another proof of your skills on drums! Like many others at CCR I first noticed guitarist and singer-songwriter :) John Fogerty, but for the first time in a band I paid attention to the drums as a leading rhythm instrument, played by Doug Clifford (with traditional grip :) . Exemplary e.g. on "Suzie Q" and "Born On The Bayou". Unfortunately I couldn't see them live: When they played in Munich, where I live, I was in Paris and as you can imagine they were in Paris when I was back in Munich.

It was such a great moment for me to hear/see you drumming that great song of the iconic group CCR. It took me back to the end of the sixties as I had the opportunity to entertain my fellows as a DJ. At that time CCR had one hit after another, almost every quarter. But I remember that it was the first band who brought to my attention how important the rhythm section was for their sound with Doug (Cosmo) Clifford on drums and Stu Cook on bass, it was for sure not only John Fogerty as the admired front man, singer-songwriter and guitarist. I would appreciate if you would cover more CCR songs like Suzie Q or Born On The Bayou or Green River.

Creedence Clearwater Revival was a huge part of my teenage years when they were a massive hit back in the day. I especially enjoyed “Proud Mary”. Doug “Cosmo” Clifford would be very proud, and so would John Fogerty and Stu Cook. Tom Fogerty is smiling down from heaven. Sina does not just play the drums, she is as one with the instrument of music. She sure nailed this song but good.

That was Fantastic. As a young boy that was one of my favorite songs ever. I must admit that I always thought Sina just did over hand drumming, love the underhanded. Sina, Mike , I do not know if you read these yourself. I saw a film 1 week ago called The Gene Krupka Story. He was a drummer that performed from 1927 to his death in the early 1970's. He even had battles with Buddy Rich. After watching it I think I now understand Sina a little more. The music / drumming are in your head and fingers and hands. Thank you for such great music.. As always Be well and Be safe. Craig P.

Very well done, Sina. This is one of the truly great songs from one of the truly great American rock and roll bands, and your drumming was fantastic. I always enjoy listening to your interpretations of some of the greatest drummers in rock history. You are a truly gifted musician, and it has been my pleasure watching and listening to you grow and evolve as a drummer and person. It blew my mind when Ian Paice, my favorite drummer, gave you a positive review of the Deep Purple classic, Burn. That had to feel really good, hearing a legend compliment your performance of an incredibly difficult piece. Anyway, keep on rocking, Sina and keep up the great work!

That classical grip was used for marching because the snare was at an angle off to the side to let the legs move. Drum kits (or "traps" which was short for "contraptions") gradually led rock drummers to prefer the match grip in most situations.
