The Demon Hunter - Dragon Age Trilogy Builds

  • Probably my last Trilogy Build for the Dragon Age franchise. The Demon Hunter. A templar warrior, who hunts illegal mages and demons.
    It is probably the most powerful warrior build in the Dragon Age series when it comes to crowd control.
    And this one is by far my most powerful Templar in Inquisition I have ever created.

I have been wanting to do a Templar run for DAI because I never did the specialization for it but now I have a reason to try this. Thank you for providing the how to guide. All of these trilogy builds are giving me some ideas for potential RPG franchises..
    Idea 1: All of these 7 builds are ideas for classes of a Diablo Clone RPG called Dark Road. It's a story about 7 seven adventurers exploring the ruins of a lost Dwarves City within a mountain in search of treasure, but they found out a lot more than what they bargained for. The Hero Classes are...
    Female Human Golden Knight
    Female Elf Archer
    Female Seraph Guardian Angel
    Male Half Demon Master Assassin
    Male Orc Death Bringer
    Male Human Demon Hunter
    Idea 2: All of the 7 builds are new companions of a Tactical RPG similar to Baldur's Gate 3 or Fire Emblem called Birthright. The builds are just some examples of the companions that Avatar character takes with him/her as he/she fights to reclaim his/her throne.
    Idea 3: It's the same companion concept from Idea 2, but it's an action JRPG similar to either Kingdom Hearts or Tales of Berseria/Arise called Fantasy Journey.

    I have a couple suggestions for new Trilogy Builds; the Paladin, which is basically this build, but geared towards sword and shield instead of two-handed swords, and The Black Mage or Dark Mage, or (if you want to go meta) Dark Magician, a mage build geared towards the dark magics. (Blood Mage in Origins and 2, and Necromancer in Inquisition)

    Every time I revist DA: I it makes me all the more anxious for Dreadwolf, as I want it to be good and Bioware needs a solid "win."
    As an old Bioware (and Titanfall 2) fan, I hate all of the legacy IP that large publishers like EA and Acti-Blizz and Ubisoft (and even Sony) have held hostage.
    Edit: For myself, I greatly enjoyed revisiting old 2H DAI builds and spec-ing FAR into the Battlemaster tree and less into Vanguard (which is what I usually do or have done). It requires a LOT more effort and coordination (but more fun), I've found, to play a Warrior this way. It's VERY easy to trivialize the combat in DAI, being overpowered early in the game, even on Nightmare.

    Awesome as always! Good focus on anti demon & magic! That fight with Gurd still has me stunned-pun intended!-despite having seen it already! Well done!!
    Your DAI build even had me decking Cassandra out with decent gear to try some demon hunting things! Been having a blast with stagger on being hit lately too. Not as damaging, but getting weaken combos left and right with Cass. Just a really fun way to play!
    I even tried it on mages to mixed success. It does make Vivienne a better tank. Little tricky to solo or tank as the others with it, especially when I like using the inferno pact to get high fire mine & immolate damage making them extra squishy. Since barrier doesn’t take defenses into account tho, I learned you may as well spend defensive metal points on stagger. With a battlemaster and orlesian helm set up you can get 74% stagger (stun) on hit & still have room to play with equipment & weapons for the rest of the build. KE with immolate alt upgrade can get so many weaken combos & keep high barrier-tho tbh I think Ring of doubt flaming array builds with inferno pact will always out damage. Still the spirit damage usually around 3-9k is a nice compliment to any build imo.
    Inevitably, I drifted toward rogue stun on being hit applications cuz I have an obsession! I even managed to make rogue tanks without barrier using stagger on being hit & elusive stacks (which do work together!)! Tempest was a lot like KE tbh-hard to kill, freezing & slowing enemies, etc-Artificer made the best overall tank I think, able to constantly reapply elusive due to opportunity knocks, keeping self & party safe & never have to retreat to stealth while waiting for cooldowns. Assassin however was able to get insane combos. Still very much rogue, but you could take a few hits & stun enemies before attacking to proc a MB weaken combo, then hit with sleep & HB AoE for a finisher. Even without high dex armor, combo damage was really strong.
    And In other rogue news, I just got a 611k mark of death with just throwing blades, hidden blades & deathblow (ngl the hardest part was not killing the dragon before detonating the mark!). No revive gimmick-not even qunari with vitaar either-just bosun blade on an elf assassin solo & I managed to deal over 1M total damage in 5 seconds! Is there any health bar in the game made for the power of that weapon?! I think a qunari version could delete the ravager with just throwing blades + hidden blades!
    I did try the revive gimmick with 3 mages & it literally only took throwing blades (with HB masterwork) to kill the ravager. Just one ability & a masterwork dealt over 400k damage! What is this game?!!
    If I can find a flash drive & an adapter to plug it into my laptop, I can get the footage from my ps4 & edit it into a vid. Knowing me I doubt it lol, but I can always dream!
    Anyway, super awesome trilogy build-shame I don’t know enough ab origins & 2 to comment on those parts of the build, but I loved the Inquisition side of things!

    • @AKisHerceg
      @AKisHerceg  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Yeah, playing around with stagger is always fun! :)
      I did not use that here because I already have so many things to stun crowds with, but I think I should have still placed that on at least Cass just for the annoying shield mobs. Wait, stagger on hit still works with Shield Wall active right? I forgot. It's been a while since I used Blackwall as a staggering punching bag.
      I would love to see the footage! Seriously, I have been wanting to play around with the Bosun Blade since forever, but I always end up not doing it because I'm already in the middle of something else, then I forget about it! There is so much potential in that little thing it's insane. No idea why the devs thought putting 500% backstab dmg on a weapon is okay, as long as they de-buff it from the front. As if the Arti can't just do non-stop Flank Attacks lol. I think with the correct gear, you can get close to 1k backstab dmg% with that blade(Deepstalker Sigil alone gives +200%). And then of course you won't just do normal attacks, but you use skills that would buff you with additional dmg%. Throwing Blades is an excellent choice indeed - I assume with the Precision Targeting upgrade. Not only its damage stacks with itself(first hit is 100% then each hit adds +25%), but with just one throw you can get all the dmg bonuses from the passives Bloodied Prey(after the first blade hits it's +10%), Pincushion(4hits so +20% for the final blade) and First Blood(+15% for the first two hits probably, if the health does not drop blow 80% on the first dagger). And this is without your attack%, and crit dmg%.
      I don't think they ever crunched the numbers on just how insane this can get lol. Glad you are having fun with it! :)

    I won't give Cassandra detonation abilities same as Inquisitor. If she sets off a combo, it'll be significantly weaker. I'll just give her Blessed Blades with 10sec out of circle upgrade and disable the other two skills. You can keep Wrath of heaven enabled for CC but Spell Purge must be disabled. Besides, with crits, cooldown time should be very low anyway so no need for someone else to make a weak combo when yours is many times stronger.

    • @AKisHerceg
      @AKisHerceg  Před měsícem +2

      So you don't want Cass to have some fun? :)
      Actually, her combo is not that much weaker. Also, I give her the ability to use SP because not only she can use it against enemies with Barrier, but many times I get to stun so many people(and she can also stun multiple ways), I don't get to detonate them all so she can do it when I can't. This actually yield more dps than just me booming around.

      You don't have to kill Wynne to pick the Templars in origins though. After you leave the Fade you will have the option to change your party in that room where you met Sloth. You can just remove Wynne from your party there. You can also just not use the Litany which will result in Irving dying so the Circle will fall. Wynne is still gonna be alive.

      I wanted Leliana as double dagger from the start. In the beginning I was not really using Alistair, I was using Morrigan and Sten with Leliana. As a 2h Templar, Sten felt like he was just in the way most of the time, so after I got Wynne, I switched Morrigan to Wynne and Sten to Alistair. Maybe I am "over thinking" this & it was just a "stylistic" choice and not a game "mechanic" based choice?

    Not sure if it's a bug but powerful swing lowered my attack and i felt like it was harder to hit enemies on PC.

    • @AKisHerceg
      @AKisHerceg  Před 2 měsíci +2

      That is not a bug, PS gives +5 damage for the price of -10 attack and -10 defense. Which is why I never use it without the Two-handed Strength upgrade, which lowers the penalty to -5.
      With Precise Striking, you gain +10 attack so it will offset the attack penalty even when it's high, but I usually don't use the two together early on because of the lack of stamina. So just use PS later, when you have 100+ attack already. Alternatively, just pick Heroic Offense for one of you mages and it will boost your attack significantly.

    Do you think Alistair could be built into this easily enough despite his starting skills being spent on shield stuff?

    • @AKisHerceg
      @AKisHerceg  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Easily. If you watched my playthrough you can see that I made him use double weapons. Using two-handed weapons is even easier for him. At the end of the game he will have more than enough abilities to spend even if he starts with weapon and shield skills.

    So i'm going to use this build for my "new" run and i was going to ask, what's a good way to build a dual wield warrior? Was going to either use sten or alistair as a dual wield warrior. Only issue is, I've never build a dual wield warrior before.

    • @AKisHerceg
      @AKisHerceg  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Pretty simple: you get dmg boost from STR so boost that and nothing else except the necessary 36 Dex that you need to unlock Dual Weapon Mastery. Always sustain Dual Striking, and use Riposte(two hit, one can be critical and stuns the target), Flurry(quick damage), Double Weapon Sweep(crowd damage), Whirlwind(high damage, good against elites and bosses, knocks the target down). Get Death Blow so you can sustain your stamina.
      Get Berserker for bonus damage and Champion for War Cry(aoe knockdown and attack penalty on enemies) and Rally for the attack+defense buff on yourself and the team.
      Get two good full sized weapons, and start massacring everyone. :)

    • @AKisHerceg
      @AKisHerceg  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Thanks! Dungeon Siege 2 forever! :)
      The two builds are similar, yet different. For example in Origins, the Deathbringer has higher damage and higher crit chance on average, but bad magic res and no ability to leech stamina from magic users. So for the Gaxkang fight, you would need a little luck to solo it with the Deathbringer, because of all the horrendous spells that the demon puts on you. This one, because of the magic immunity, ignores all of it and kills the demon solo like it's nothing, while never running out of stamina.
      In DA2, they are both out of luck during act 1 and 2 because of the crap weapons you have access to as a 2H warrior(but the Empress's Point is the best phisical weapon in the game, so the Demon Hunter has the advantage here), but in act 3 they are both unstoppable. The Demon Hunter might have a slight advantage because of the unique sword he uses that deals spirit damage, which is something that more enemies are weak to than the cold axe that the Deathbringer uses. In both cases the main quest finale is a joke if you side with the mages, since templars are weak to both cold and spirit - Meredith included - Orsino's undead are weak to spirit, but the spawning Arcane Horrors are weak to cold so it's pretty even.
      In Inquisition, the Deathbringer uses mostly Whirlwind to grind everyone into paste, whereas the Demon Hunter uses the weakness combo. Both are phenomenal for crowd damage, especially if you go with a team. The Deathbringer might have a little advantage over singe targets, since it can use Dragon Rage. The Demon Hunter might have a slight advantage with it comes to support and crowd control, because it has access to many skills that can stun, pull, scare, slow and build up guard for the team.
      So as I said, they are similar, but they both have their own strengths and weaknesses. :)
