Those are the original 4K discs for GB 1&2 Keith. The new discs had Dolby Vision and the original 2.0 stereo tracks (which Sony managed to mess up on GB1 but never acknowledged the fault). Same 4K base transfer but with Dolby Vision instead of HDR

One of the reasons to why I thought it might have been the recent 4K releases is because on the J card of this release it does mention Dolby vision but that could be simply for Ghostbusters Afterlife. From the sounds of things I'm not missing out on much with the new transfers.

It’s nice but I’m a sucker for the individual slipcovers unfortunately I didn’t pick up the one with the ghost trap sold out at Best Buy very quickly before I could have a chance to pick it up. Sells for$250 plus now
To be honest I'm a bit similar to yourself. I do love my individual slipcovers. I actually seen one of those trap Editions going on eBay a couple of weeks ago for 120 euro which I thought was a great price considering what they're going for now. Hopefully that’s the upgraded Dolby Vision versions. they’re releasing a new steel book with the first and second films in the states but I can’t get confirmation if they’re the new versions but not the third, which is a let down. lately, Columbia/Sony has been re-releasing some of their 4ks with Dolby Vision so hopefully they’re doing the same. I really feel sorry for Ernie Hudson I can’t believe they would release the poster like that after what happened with the VHS releases and on TV back then I don’t know if you remember but those were pan and scan so when they showed The four Ghostbusters together they always cut off Ernie Hudson So you would think they would never ever let anything like that happen again, have a great one👍

Really nice Set Keith . The packaging for Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 are basically the same as the US 4K releases. But for Ghostbusters afterlife different artwork than the US edition. That artwork that was used was the same artwork as the US Blu-ray, not the 4K which I prefer the Blu-ray artwork butter. The new US 4K artwork. It’s too bad I didn’t come with the bonus disc like that expensive set did . I’m hoping they release another set for 4k when the next movie gets released cause I missed out on the book and bonus disc

Keith I was just looking at the Sony re-pressing of the ghostbusters 1+2 steelbook before I saw this video, I did find that weird with the poster aswell. I wonder if that steelbook has the latest transfers, I would imagine so.

The first Ghostbusters might just be my favourite ever movie, but I totally agree with you about the 4K transfer. The 4K disc I own (which is part of a 5 disc German steelbook set) is the worst 4K transfer I've seen.

Hey John. I was able to check that transfer out for you and from the looks of things it's the same transfer that's on the older editions. I have been told by a few people the only difference with the new transfer is it comes in Dalby vision instead of HDR so there's a slight upgrade in colour. But apparently it's almost identical

You know yourself the longer you hold off the chances are you will get them on the cheap. I was told by a few people that the upgrades are barely noticeable over the older 4k transfers. I hope it helps you out
I love the original Ghost Busters Keith, it's very nostalgic for me but I'm not a fan of any of the others. They could have done so much better with the second one, the last one was not what I wanted with the kids. I would have taken a different root and focused more on the original cast but in this day and age I guess they had to try something different.
Don't get me wrong Gary I would love to have seen the main cast feature so much more in afterlife but something is telling me Bill Murray didn't want to do any more than what he did in this movie. I think they're all coming back for the next movie aswell so we will see what happens. I think it's taken place in New York so at least that is something. They'll never recapture the magic of the original movie. It's perfection in my eyes

I'm having a Tom Hanks few days, I watched Saving Private Ryan the other day, yesterday I watched Castaway and Forest Gump and now I'm about to start watching Apollo 13, tomorrow I got The Green Mile planned, I'm loving it.
Tom Hanks is my fiances favorite actor. You can't go wrong when it comes to Tom Hanks especially the movies that you have checked out. Honestly Forrest Gump is probably one of my favorite movies of all time. That's scene with him at the Grave at the end destroys me every time I see it

Nice1 Keith. Yer seems like a straightforward nice little release and definitely worth a pickup if you're a big fan of the movies. I remember the first one coming out at the cinema the same week as Gremlins, I saw them both at the cinema and I liked Ghostbusters...but I LOVED Gremlins. I was always surprised that Ghostbusters seemed to be more highly thought of than Gremlins. That said, I've grown to appreciate Ghostbusters more over the years because the cast is just so good ! Not just the brilliant main trio but Ernie Hudson was great too...and as much as I like Eddie Murphy (especially in one of my absolute favourites "Trading Places", the classic "Beverly Hills Cop" and the voice of Donkey in Shrek) I think he would have been miscast in this...Ernie kept things "grounded" as a perfect contrast to the main trio...I think Eddie would have been too intense and it would have clashed a little with Bill Murray's performance. I also really liked William Atherton who seemed to play almost an identical character to the one he played in "Die Hard" and was the perfect antagonist for Bill Murray to adlib on "yes it's true...this man has no dick" LOL I thought the 2nd one was OK but it wasn't as good as the first...I remember quite liking the idea of the sorcerer in the painting but I don't remember much more about it...I don't think I've seen that since the cinema...well over 30 years ago ! LOL There were aspects of the 3rd movie that I wasn't too keen on, I wasn't a fan of most of the young cast for one...they were all just "OK" aside from Logan Kim...he was superb as the nerdy kid interested in all things paranormal and having a youtube channel with just one subscriber (as I remember?)...BUT, I did enjoy the way they paid tribute to Harold Ramis and I don't mind telling you I was choked up at the end...I know some have said that it felt a bit "manipulative" and cheap to play on nostalgia like that but I disagree...I thought they did a great job putting him in the movie in that way...I found his appearance at the end very moving indeed. As well as being great in the Ghostbusters movies I loved him in "As Good As it Gets" and appreciate him massively for writing and directing the absolutely superb "Groundhog Day". R.I.P. Harold...you did some great things ! I bought the standard Blu-ray set of these three movies a while back...I must watch them all again very soon !!!

Having said that I am a huge Joe Dante fan. I absolutely agree with you when it comes to Eddie Murphy as much as I love him as an actor particularly his 80s movies I think there would have been somewhat of a conflict between him and Bill Murray. Apparently John Belushi was meant to be in Ghostbusters as well and you can only imagine what that might have been like. Ghostbusters 2 I honestly don't think it gets the love and respect that it's deserves. It doesn't come remotely close to the original movie but that would have been an impossible task right from the get-go. As for afterlife I had such a wonderful time with that movie. I thought McKenna Grace was absolutely astonishing in it and just like yourself you can't help but get choked up with the ending of the movie. There wasn't a dry eye in the house when I watched it in the cinema that night.

It can get hard to hold back I even felt a lump in my throat in Castaway when Helen Hunt couldn't bring herself to see him again after 4 years and she broke down crying outside in her husband's arms, that really got me, how do you handle something like that. Tom Hanks has made some amazing films but the one I love the most has to be Green Mile, that is a special film I can watch over and over again, and the ending with Mr Jingles, say no more.
I couldn't agree more with you when it comes to that scene in Castaway. You sometimes forget how talented Helen Hunt is. You are in for a tearful time when you check out the Green Mile. It really doesn't get much better than that movie. Still hard to believe it's written by Stephen King even though it feels like a Stephen King movie as ridiculous as that sounds
It actually does feel like Stephen King is behind it, its got his style, especially when that nasty ass warden electrocutes that poor guy without the wet sponge, that is vicious. We will have to do another top 10 of something again soon. Yeah Mark I wasn't the biggest fan of it mainly because of how expensive it was. This edition is by no means a fantastic release but you can't complain when it's only 40 Euro. Thanks for checking it out my friend
@@millerman9991 I ended up getting the Canadian version of it in the end for $90 but apart from the Slipcovers and the fact the box lights up green when you take the cases out of it it's still the same flimsy packaging as the UK release
@@millerman9991 as for the films themselves the second one has a decent transfer the first one is better transfer than the original release but still not great and as for the third movie you would actually think being released in 2021 it would have the best 4K transfer but in fact it is the weakest one in my view
It's weird Mark because I mentioned in the video that I remember After Life looking good and then I checked out my video that I done on that trap Edition and apparently I was massively disappointed by the transfer. I really need to revisit it and see what I think. As for the other two I honestly cannot agree more with you. Ghostbusters unfortunately is one of those movies that's never going to look good on any format
I already have that beautiful edition from Arrow video of demons 1 and 2. My god they look astonishing on 4k. I have never seen pumpkin head believe it or not so this will be the first time and yes I am definitely picking that up
You should hear what Ernie Hudson has to say about Ghostbusters. It's a bit disrespectful how the studio treated him. Did you hear that they originally wanted Eddie Murphy in the movie? Ghostbusters 2 stands out more to me. Are we just gonna forget about the 2016 movie? Lol. I still need to check out Afterlife.
Just the other day somebody posted up a picture on Facebook I think it was and it was showing what the poster would have looked like if they got the original cast they were looking for. As you mentioned Eddie Murphy was one of the actors and I think John Belushi was another. I honestly can't remember who the other two were but the poster looked so strange. It's a shame Ernie Hudson got so poorly mistreated. Something is telling me he is going to feature heavily in the next Ghostbusters movie which I am definitely opened to. Like you said the less we say about 2016 movie the better. I had a great time with afterlife. It is by no means perfect but you can help but feel somewhat nostalgic watching it. I hope you give it a go someday

Don't get me wrong Gary I would love to have seen the main cast feature so much more in afterlife but something is telling me Bill Murray didn't want to do any more than what he did in this movie. I think they're all coming back for the next movie aswell so we will see what happens. I think it's taken place in New York so at least that is something. They'll never recapture the magic of the original movie. It's perfection in my eyes
@@millerman9991 Yes, I agree, it was that decade as well, it was very special for a lot of us growing up, we can never get that time back but we have the memories and the movies to remind us. I'm having a Tom Hanks few days, I watched Saving Private Ryan the other day, yesterday I watched Castaway and Forest Gump and now I'm about to start watching Apollo 13, tomorrow I got The Green Mile planned, I'm loving it.
Tom Hanks is my fiances favorite actor. You can't go wrong when it comes to Tom Hanks especially the movies that you have checked out. Honestly Forrest Gump is probably one of my favorite movies of all time. That's scene with him at the Grave at the end destroys me every time I see it

I am not the biggest John Wayne fan so I don't think I'll be picking it up. I already have Bloodsport on 4K for the last couple of months so no need to get it again

I remember the first one coming out at the cinema the same week as Gremlins, I saw them both at the cinema and I liked Ghostbusters...but I LOVED Gremlins. I was always surprised that Ghostbusters seemed to be more highly thought of than Gremlins. That said, I've grown to appreciate Ghostbusters more over the years because the cast is just so good ! Not just the brilliant main trio but Ernie Hudson was great too...and as much as I like Eddie Murphy (especially in one of my absolute favourites "Trading Places", the classic "Beverly Hills Cop" and the voice of Donkey in Shrek) I think he would have been miscast in this...Ernie kept things "grounded" as a perfect contrast to the main trio...I think Eddie would have been too intense and it would have clashed a little with Bill Murray's performance. I also really liked William Atherton who seemed to play almost an identical character to the one he played in "Die Hard" and was the perfect antagonist for Bill Murray to adlib on "yes it's true...this man has no dick" LOL
I thought the 2nd one was OK but it wasn't as good as the first...I remember quite liking the idea of the sorcerer in the painting but I don't remember much more about it...I don't think I've seen that since the cinema...well over 30 years ago ! LOL
There were aspects of the 3rd movie that I wasn't too keen on, I wasn't a fan of most of the young cast for one...they were all just "OK" aside from Logan Kim...he was superb as the nerdy kid interested in all things paranormal and having a youtube channel with just one subscriber (as I remember?)...BUT, I did enjoy the way they paid tribute to Harold Ramis and I don't mind telling you I was choked up at the end...I know some have said that it felt a bit "manipulative" and cheap to play on nostalgia like that but I disagree...I thought they did a great job putting him in the movie in that way...I found his appearance at the end very moving indeed. As well as being great in the Ghostbusters movies I loved him in "As Good As it Gets" and appreciate him massively for writing and directing the absolutely superb "Groundhog Day". R.I.P. Harold...you did some great things !
I bought the standard Blu-ray set of these three movies a while back...I must watch them all again very soon !!!
It's a very simple looking Edition but the fact that I didn't have afterlife I felt it was a bit of a no-brainer to pick this release up especially for the price that I got it for. Great to hear that you are a fan of gremlins as well because it's one of my go-to movies from the 80s. Every Christmas it gets watched in this house and rightly so. Having said that I am a huge Joe Dante fan. I absolutely agree with you when it comes to Eddie Murphy as much as I love him as an actor particularly his 80s movies I think there would have been somewhat of a conflict between him and Bill Murray. Apparently John Belushi was meant to be in Ghostbusters as well and you can only imagine what that might have been like. Ghostbusters 2 I honestly don't think it gets the love and respect that it's deserves. It doesn't come remotely close to the original movie but that would have been an impossible task right from the get-go. As for afterlife I had such a wonderful time with that movie. I thought McKenna Grace was absolutely astonishing in it and just like yourself you can't help but get choked up with the ending of the movie. There wasn't a dry eye in the house when I watched it in the cinema that night.

Unfortunately they aren't the new 4K transfer. They are only available on the trap box set.
Yeah I had a feeling it was the older transfers. The only reason why I thought they might have been new is because it mentioned Dolby vision on the J card. But that was obviously referring to afterlife

It can get hard to hold back I even felt a lump in my throat in Castaway when Helen Hunt couldn't bring herself to see him again after 4 years and she broke down crying outside in her husband's arms, that really got me, how do you handle something like that. Tom Hanks has made some amazing films but the one I love the most has to be Green Mile, that is a special film I can watch over and over again, and the ending with Mr Jingles, say no more.
I couldn't agree more with you when it comes to that scene in Castaway. You sometimes forget how talented Helen Hunt is. You are in for a tearful time when you check out the Green Mile. It really doesn't get much better than that movie. Still hard to believe it's written by Stephen King even though it feels like a Stephen King movie as ridiculous as that sounds
It actually does feel like Stephen King is behind it, its got his style, especially when that nasty ass warden electrocutes that poor guy without the wet sponge, that is vicious. We will have to do another top 10 of something again soon. Well in all fairness it was a cheap set. It's no different than any other type of collector set out there. Same cardboard same plastic.
A better release than that flimsy Ghost Trap crap release
Yeah Mark I wasn't the biggest fan of it mainly because of how expensive it was. This edition is by no means a fantastic release but you can't complain when it's only 40 Euro. Thanks for checking it out my friend
@@millerman9991 I ended up getting the Canadian version of it in the end for $90 but apart from the Slipcovers and the fact the box lights up green when you take the cases out of it it's still the same flimsy packaging as the UK release
Yeah I remember it very well. It had to be the most disappointing release I have ever witnessed and I have witnessed some bad releases
@@millerman9991 as for the films themselves the second one has a decent transfer the first one is better transfer than the original release but still not great and as for the third movie you would actually think being released in 2021 it would have the best 4K transfer but in fact it is the weakest one in my view
It's weird Mark because I mentioned in the video that I remember After Life looking good and then I checked out my video that I done on that trap Edition and apparently I was massively disappointed by the transfer. I really need to revisit it and see what I think. As for the other two I honestly cannot agree more with you. Ghostbusters unfortunately is one of those movies that's never going to look good on any format

I already have that beautiful edition from Arrow video of demons 1 and 2. My god they look astonishing on 4k. I have never seen pumpkin head believe it or not so this will be the first time and yes I am definitely picking that up

You should hear what Ernie Hudson has to say about Ghostbusters. It's a bit disrespectful how the studio treated him. Did you hear that they originally wanted Eddie Murphy in the movie? Ghostbusters 2 stands out more to me. Are we just gonna forget about the 2016 movie? Lol. I still need to check out Afterlife.
Just the other day somebody posted up a picture on Facebook I think it was and it was showing what the poster would have looked like if they got the original cast they were looking for. As you mentioned Eddie Murphy was one of the actors and I think John Belushi was another. I honestly can't remember who the other two were but the poster looked so strange. It's a shame Ernie Hudson got so poorly mistreated. Something is telling me he is going to feature heavily in the next Ghostbusters movie which I am definitely opened to. Like you said the less we say about 2016 movie the better. I had a great time with afterlife. It is by no means perfect but you can help but feel somewhat nostalgic watching it. I hope you give it a go someday
