Great story...message is loud and clear. Don't hurt other living things. The boy knew it was wrong, and the bird was teaching him a lesson. He'll never hurt an animal again!

Had to look it up but I suspected a reading of Inuit mythology. The bird figure represents an Ijiraq a form of shape shifter that leads children astray. The Bear figure is the Inikshuk of stone which can free the children by persuading the Ijirak to let them go.
Mixed up in the mythology can be the idea that if a hunter strays too far North whilst hunting they can get caught between the land of the living and the dead, hence the falling through the ice into a sort of dreamland.
So an excellent take on a native myth, very well crafted.

On a cold and desolate land,
Where ice shall form in solid grand.
A child was sent to trail the white,
In ground below of crystal sight.
    World between the fragment veil,
To bear and glimpse the feathery wail.
And close to doom, a bear then rose,
Whose father made from love and trove.

This short is simply amazing! Great animation and wonderful story. I love stories with no dialogue because everyone who watches them can interpret them in their own way. For me, the boy did not imagine anything at all. Both the Owl and the Bear are actual beings from the Spirit World, the Owl wanting to punish the boy for trying to hurt the little bird, and the Bear comes to the rescue, as he is after all an innocent child (could also be his fathers family spirit)... Just my interpretation. In the end the boy learns to respect animals and befriends the bird.
Oh and to all the people asking if this is the boy from Ice Age, c'mon guys, there is no resemblance at all; ¿do you think Jackie Chan is the same guy from Crouching Tiger too? Besides, Ice Age is set... well, on the ICE AGE, these guys have modern technology.

    • @olgaradzikh2552
      @olgaradzikh2552 Před 10 lety +2

I agree. I don't think it was meant as a boy's imagination. This looks like a visualization of an adapted Inuit tale, and spirits are real in those tales.

If the father was a representation of a bear coming to the rescue of the child, then the bird was most likely a representation of a person trying to harm the father's child.

Omg, I remember that stone carvings from when I lived in Alaska, my fiance of the time was an artist and tried to teach me. Its very hard if you've never done it before. He made a bear while I tried to make an otter. We ended up having to change it into a walrus cause I wasn't very good...but wow, that polar bear carving the dad was doing...brought it all back!

I saw a great native short film a few years ago, can't remember where, but it about a native who lives somewhere in the North. He got a letter from the government saying to please come in to the nearest government office. No phone number or anything else.
So he and his wife spend all day getting a vehicle going that they normally never use in winter, and drive all day to the nearest office. They walk in the door, and someone says "We just needed a signature. You didn't need to drive all the way here." It's obvious that someone who lives in such a remote area could never possibly know that. No wonder they think we're crazy.
    I can't believe the government can't put 2 and 2 together. Actually I can.

this would be a funny story to tell your parents. i get the idea of the story, don't hurt living things or others around you because they'll hurt you too or give you a lesson. but just imagine telling your dad like, 'I got lost and almost eaten by a bird! But it's okay because then a bear showed up and saved me!"
Then your dad be like, "So what did you learn from this...imagination of yours?'
Then you'd say with a serious face, "Don't follow majestic creatures no matter how pretty they are..." haha sorry but this was fantastic! really loved the idea
