- Double E Hobby's release has been on all RC forums and Facebook Groups since its launch in early June 2021, but is it worth the hype ?
Follow my extensive review of the Electric version of the VOLVO EC160E 1/14 scale RC construction model.
After more than a month of working with the model for approx. 20 hours of diggin time with my other RC models, I'll tell you what I learnt from operating this excavator.

what would be your go to excavator for a beginner? I want something fully metal with good digging power
It will depend on your budget mainly. Below 1K€ I would recommend the V3 version of the Electric version of the Volvo EC160E featured here. but make sure to get the V3 version which fix a lot of issues. I recommend a electric version because its a lot less difficult to maintain and service. Below 2K€ I think the conversion from Electric to hydraulic is a great value if you use either the MAgom or Wuehlbox upgrades.

Hi mate, Im glad you enjoyed the video as it took me some time to make it. The big question on this excvator is reliability now ! Time will tell. As for the wheel loader, this will have to wait cause Im no rich lol ! actually saving money for 2 years to buy a hydraulic excavator next. Thanks for your comments.

Am abt to purchase one this week finally after searching aliexpress, but how has it held up over the year?
I made a video about 6 month later saying it was not reliable and I don't recommend the V1 of this model. I heard they are selling the V3 now and that it should work better but I have not tried the newer versions. In the end I converted my EC160E to hydraulic.
Thanks for doing this review, as was going to buy one, but really no better than its Huina brothers, ( and cheaper too ) having no proportional control on the track drives is a non starter in this day and age, think I will just upgrade my plastic Double E with ESCs and Flysky...realistic control is everything, the rest is superficial...and the noise...well....! cheapo motors and gearboxes...
You're welcome Paul. since then Ive been doing an hydraulic conversion because I had so many issues with the electronics I was pissed lol.
The tracks along with everything else on this machine are proportional speed. You can go from a slow slow crawl to a decent pace. You can adjust your top speed of the crawl with the center knob.
Are the controls the same as a real excavator?
Yes, exact same its called the ISO excavator controls. Check here for more info : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excavator_controls

What is you point of a review? You changed the radio system? That’s not helping buyers of a rtr..
My point is that as is it was not working for me, electronic is wack from the get go! NOW after 30 hours of play I dont recommend this excavator, the electric version has so many issues unfortunately. My model was NOT RTR even if sold as RTR.
