    For those curious:
As it turns out, this guy wasn't even aware that the baby existed, and what actually happened was the baby's mother's family was Jewish, and the grandmother feared that her daughter having an illegitimate child would damage her (the grandmother's) standing in the community. To that end, she threatened to completely disown her daughter if she didn't get rid of the baby, before basically exiling her until this blew over.
In the end, the baby does pull through (in a brief crossover with "Chicago Med"), and the grandmother is arrested in a very public, and very satisfying way. (the father plays no role in the story after this)

      You be surprised ...
As long as the hypothermia doesn't actually kill you, the human body can go into what I know it as the 'mammalian diving reflex': the colder the temperatures, the lower the heart rate, and bp becomes, as the brain chills to the point it requires less oxygen, etc, to function. It isn't quite hibernation, but the other vital organs also slow in respiration (as in cellular energy input/output), with - like the brain - reduced respiration meaning reduced oxygen demand. Rewarming has to be done slowly, as temperature, along with oxygen supply, both have to be carefully monitored, but, yes, if the circumstances are right, you be surprised, especially when kids fall into icy waters ...
... although the lack of oxygen is a double edged sword: too long, even with reduced oxygen demand, creates its own issues ...

We lived across the street from a big field, well one day while walking her she yanked the leash out of my hand and ran to a patch of grass so I walked to her and saw a baby probably about 2 months old in a baby carrier, the baby was so weak cause it was cold it could let a cry every few seconds, Vatani's hearing was better than mine that day. I picked the baby up and took it home, my mom called the police, the police and a ambulance came out and took the baby to the hospital. Luckily the baby survived, turns out the parents of the baby lived down the street from us, they said they had forgotten their baby after having a picnic in the field. The baby was put in a foster home while the parents were arrested. I was surprised by Vatani's actions that day cause she absolutely hated strangers, didn't matter the age, but was very proud of her, I was 18 at the time. Voight does have a heart regardless of what others say. Even people like him can have a heart. I've seen it before with other shows like NCIS special agent Gibbs and CSI Miami special agent Horatio. Anyone can do things like them and still have a heart but those who toss away a baby out into the elements is just sick. Hope remaining a big fan of Voight's as I am.

Just to clarify your point-you can only surrender a baby at a police station, a firehouse, or a hospital. You cannot just randomly surrender your baby any place you please, like a grocery store. And churches are not staffed 24/7 so you also cannot surrender a baby there either. Please do some fact checking before you make claims like your comment.
