    @LWalsh0 Před 3 lety +24

    Man if only universal pushed them even a little bit. The tool vibes and amazing first album through the eyes should have made them lifelong, headliners.

      @richardbelisle7626 Před 2 lety +10

      Howdy I was their Tour manager and FOH during this time...universal put a bunch of money and push behind these guys...they rented us a theatre in KY where we did several weeks of pre production, including putting three of the members on in ear monitors which was still pretty rare for then...we did one run in a cruse America rv after that straight to a tour buss.....but they got caught in the party, and as the year went on it got bad...so bad I flew home in the middle of a run in dec of that year, after finding myself a replacement....loved the band that album and the guys but they just couldn't see the gift that had been given them.....and trust me except for The used whom I did the same thing for when they were starting ...97% of the young bands who get that big of a push so early on can't get past the party....till one day the label drops you the tour support is gone and by then it's too late...

    • @IamShado
      @IamShado Před 2 lety +7

      @@richardbelisle7626 (Friend of the band here).. although I agree there's truth to what you say and the internal strife within the band would have likely still been there, I think it's important to understand that Universal/Republic was indeed part of the problem.
      Republic had signed Godsmack just a couple years before and threw a god awful amount of money promoting them and it worked.. and they sold millions of albums.
      They signed Flaw hoping they would be their next Godsmack. But the problem is that between the time of Godsmack and Flaw was the dawn of the digital era; Napster had given birth to the P2P file sharing era and the major labels had no idea how to handle it. They had no idea how to handle monetizing bands. They measured success almost entirely on CD sales while millions of people had begun pirating instead of buying.
      Much of the fighting within the band was due to disagreements with how Universal was pushing them. The band was seeing their songs being downloaded like crazy and Universal was pumping hundreds of thousands of dollars in to making music videos and promoting albums that were being downloaded for free.
      The band wanted to focus on making their money from live shows. They needed more money put in to making their live shows better and getting on to better tours and less money spent on music videos.
      Who knows if the band would have survived the internal problems either way, but had they been signed 2 years earlier or if the record labels had the foresight to embrace the digital era earlier, it likely would have made a world of difference.

      I used to love this band. I read their wiki. It seems like a mix of bad management and personalities. For real though, the lead singer has one of the best voices in the history of metal.

      @@tomdrum1394 Yeah, we’re gonna have to agree to disagree.
      That record is a fucking disgusting disappointment, especially, when you know the context that they were actually supposed to make a heavier record than their last record, but universal tried to con them into selling out, just to dump them when it justifiably backfired…
