That's a module I always wanted to run, but never had the chance. After watching the video, it is now one of my top priorities for when life goes back to normal. =)

I remember playing in this campaign. I was with a group, we had switched to Pathfinder 1.0 in its early times and I played a melee focused bard (bards are a lot different in Pathfinder 1.0 from what they were in 3.5). So many good memories.
Among our party, we had a snake woman paladin (waist and legs a snake tail, upper body human)> Ranged focus (divine hunter archetype)> Another character that was a cleric of khord (I think that was the god, don't remember. I just remember I suggested it to the character, was wearing full plate armor and using a great sword) and another character, a fighter+alchemist at first, but later changed to a barbarian (was supposed to be a tank, but the dm always rolled really good and hit the character despite the ac).
***note, there are going to be spoilers here to any of you players, so YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!***
Let me think...so we killed the hydra, I had done a crit and did 30 points of dmaage (around that number, dn't remember). Dm Messaged me (we were playing online) and asked me if I had 1 more point of damage to kill it. I was out of points and so the next player, a summoner, shot an acid splash at it, killing it.
When we went to the bridge to destory it, our alchemist/fighter was going to drop a bomb to destroy it at just a perfect spot...then the draon and the army showed up and surrounded him. He stood there, with the bomb, and the enemy did nothing (didn't want to destroy the bridge). The party peppered the dragon with arrows while it was starting down the fighter/alchemist. (NOW I remember, we also had a sorcerer (sage which used intelligence instead of charisma for spellcasting). Eventually, the fighter/alchemist said F-IT! and dropped the bomb, destorying the bridge. he survived, somehow, and a majority of the enemy were killed and the dragon escaped...or tried to.
The arrow slinging paladin was like, "Not getting away." As the dragon was escaping, the sorcerer and the paladin peppered him with smiting arrows/fireballs (a paladin's smite evil works differently in pathfinder 1.0. it works with melee or ranged weapons, lasts for 24 hours on the target or if target is killed or if selecting another target, provided +cha to hit and +level to damage with ALL attacks). Even at over 500+ft away, in the air, after the dragon got a bunch of fireballs and arrows in the butt, the paladin took it down (with range increment penalties and all). After that, the paladin went ot claim her prize from the dead dragon (don't remember, maybe a heart or something?). Then she saw the army of demons and stuff just over the ridge (the green dragon almost made it to safety).
We did convince the giants to help us out, too. That was good.
next, the lizardfolk area. We kicked butt (dm made some of the lizardfolk barbarians, demon totem. Made it look like they grew demon horns and stuff. WE were like, "Oh no, they were possessed by demons" and stuff. That was funny when we found out that they were just barbarians wiht that totem. The fighter/alchemist became the lizardfolk king, I almost caused the black dragon to cry with my insults (bards, am I right?), and the paladin was like, "I am smiting this one, no matter what" and apparently the snake woman has a swim speed and after declaring smite on it chased after it. The dragon was running away while the paladin would get a hit in as it swam away. Oh, and entangle bombs are annoying (dm found that out the hard way when the fighter/alchemist started lobbing them at the dragon). Oh, that was fun.

Ran this with my group back 15ish years ago now and it was absolutely amazing. I loved how it gave me a system to adjust for cause and effect to give bonuses or hinderences at the end against the bbeg

All videos so far are really helpful. Great intros to delve into these adventures, especially for people not familiar with older modules! Consider doing some planescape modules in the future and keep up the great work

Thanks for good words! Oh boy Planescape! A beloved setting that I think I will touch in the future. Probably got to do a couple of vids about the rich history and lore of that one before getting into Dead Gods or Something Wild that I have run in the past. Thanks for the suggestions though!

Been trying to decipher the book for a few weeks, struggling with the opening scenes as you mentioned is common.
Now I get it and look forward to putting my table against the Red Hand. We're playing in Faerun instead of Grayhawk, but it matches up nicely with The Shaar, and I've tied it together with Against the Cult of The Reptile God.

I've been prepping this module for my group over the last couple of weeks, great vid. I'm trying to start the group at lvl 1 with some quests and encounters in and around the Drellin's Ferry to tie them into the setting before unleashing the module on them.

    • @RpgLoremaster
      @RpgLoremaster  Před 3 lety +5

Yeah this module is perfect to start you group 1st lvl. There are plenty to do in and around Drellin's Ferry and by doing so your group will be invested in the area. That will ensure the adventure will have a greater impact on them and also you can weave their 1-6 journey into the later plots of the adventure.

If you're looking for a low-level adventure to lead into Red Hand of Doom with, I highly recommend taking a look at Scourge of the Howling Horde. It's a 3rd Edition adventure written for 1st level characters, and depending on how you play it, could take them as high as 4th level by the end.
It's setting neutral, making it super easy to drop it in the Elsir Vale somewhere, and the plot seems tailor made to be a segway into another Dragon-centric adventure like Red Hand of Doom.

Great video! just what I was looking for before deciding on running this module. Which I will run after "Against the Cult of the Reptile God", both on 5e, will probably add some mini adventure in between so characters are at least lvl 5. Subscribed and I can see the channel growing rapidly

Thanks man, glad the video helped you choose your next module! You will most definitely have great fun as a game master. Make sure to tie your players to the people in drellin's ferry or Brindol when you play your mini adventure. That would make the end game of it so much better!

If the northern region falls they could see everything collapse

This is exactly why I like adventures like the Red Hand, you have created an amazing plot for your players, and this book will provide you with everything you need to enhance your story exponentially with out having to seek maps, npcs, art etc. Awesome, if you have a blog that you post your journals to would love to read em, post it here for others to find as well!
