Drive-by Truckers - Never Gonna Change lyrics
Let this be a lesson to you girl: Don't come around where you know you don't belong.
They're riding on the avenue and probably coming after you and they all look mean and strong.
Mean and strong like liquor.
Mean and strong like fear.
Strong like the people from South Alabama and mean like the people from here.
Take it from me... We ain't never gonna change.
Daddy used to empty out his shotgun shells and fill 'em full of black-eyed peas.
He'd aim real low and tear out your ankles or rip right through your knees.
There ain't much traffic on the highway. There ain't much traffic on the lake.
The ATF and the ABI got everything they could take.
Take it from me... They didn't take it from me.
We ain't never gonna change.
We ain't doin' nothin' wrong.
We ain't never gonna change
so shut your mouth and play along.
I thought about going in the army. I thought about going overseas.
I wouldn't have trouble with a piss test; only problem is my bad left knee.
My brother got picked up at Parker's, got him a ride in a new Crown Vic.
They said that he was movin' on a federal level but they couldn't really make it stick.
Take it from me...
We ain't never gonna change.
We ain't doin' nothin' wrong.
We ain't never gonna change
so shut your mouth and play along.
You can throw me in the Colbert County jailhouse.
You can throw me off the Wilson Dam
but there ain't much difference in the man I wanna be and the man I really am.
We ain't never gonna change.
Jason Isbell © House of Fame Music (BMI)
Love this band for years when the song first came out; I am a Southern girl. I’ve gone west now and they’re coming to Montana!
Hello Kelly how are you doing hope you’re having a great time with your family may God bless you and your family
The first minute and thirteen seconds of this song is one of the strongest introductions to set the feeling of a song in my opinion. These guys never cease to impress me. Wish I discovered them sooner
Frankly that 1:13 set my introduction to DBT and Isbell almost 20 years ago now. Not just to a song, or a band, but to an entire genre
I'm with you on that man. Wish I had found them sooner.
This is the first Drive By Truckers song I ever heard and loved when I heard Jason's vocals.
I just saw them for the first time 6/8 in St Louis. Loved it!
This band has so much good material. I'm thoroughly impressed with their musical talent and songwriting abilities
This song always gets me jacked..long live DBT. God i wish Jason hadn't left. As great as Cooley and Patterson are, and they are fucking great, the band had a different edge to it with Isbell. Get back together boys. YOU were great togethor.
My favorite of theirs. I was so excited when i got it, i knew some of the songs already, but by the time "The Day John Henry Died" rolled around, i actually had tears in my eyes because of how beautiful this album was. I asked my friend "have you ever heard an album so good, it brought you to tears?" He texted me back in under a minute "Boston's debut album".....so this is what feelings are.
Don't get no better than this. Saw the Truckers the weekend of Katrina's landfall. Best show I have ever seen. Seen them a few times at Tipatina's uptown
The best song from the best CD of the 2000's.
This could possibly be the best band ever
+kabodkhwaamkhid there's no objective answer anyway, moron
He just means it's his favorite band. Relax, mates.
+jason pressley Wow, that escalated quickly! Try not to stab anyone with a trident, please.
This could possibly be the best post ever
jason pressley they were, when Jason was there, this was there best album by far!!! But Patterson is still the best
Jason played this at his show in Boston last night. I thought the roof was going to fly off the place!
Av8rMark he played it at Kansas last Friday and it did rock
I love the Drive-by Truckers so much, and I really respect the hell out of Isbell and his contributions, but for some reason I always had a slight distaste for his solo career that I couldn't put my finger on, but that all changed when I saw him do this song live at one of his shows and he just shredded the fuck out of it for about ten solid minutes. I was like okay, maybe I've been unfair.
Culture of some of the cooler folks you come across.
There awsome..its sucks they dont get more exposure..i believe them you know. There real
You can throw me in the Colbert County jailhouse.
You can throw me off the Wilson Dam
But there ain't much difference in the man I wanna be and the man I really am.
If that isn't an introspective line, I've never heard one. DAMN
One of my favourite lyrics in any song I've ever heard.
I don't know what's best, the album cover or the song. Lets just say it's a package deal.
DBT the voice of the SOUTH
I love the lead guitars. Reminds me of Jimmy Page
Few understand, even fewer smile.
This may beat most of Isbell's solo career, although Southeastern is an incredible album in its own right.
Jason Isbell is incredible.
Grew up in a small town in Southest Missouri. This song reminds me of the day we came home from high-school and there was a literal line of government Vics parked at the only gas station in town. Turns out those good ole boys were truly moving on a Federal level. Heard so many in town say "They'd give you the shirt off their back."
That Album cover is BADASS
Juanita Krause , Wes Freed is the artist
RIP🙁
The perfect song describes my family to a T ..I sure love The D.BT..2thumbs up
This has to be one of the best songs ever written. If not the best. It's too five for sure.
daddy used to empty out his shotgun shells, and fill em full of black eyed peas
Dennis Mink. That's a badass verse man.
My grandpa used to do just this to keep the dogs out of the trash
He'd aim real low and tear out your ankles and rip right through your gd knees.
Rock salt will get a stray cow out of the yard
This song has more grit than any RnR song. Not metal. Balls. No brains, maybe, but Holy Kaluie, Bambi, these guys just get right up in your face and stay there.
As a proud Yankee of over sixty years, I tip my replica 54th Division cap to them.
The whole picture is, just the moon shows it the most. tThe pixles are shifting around
The best post 2000 rock song!
What a great band
I love the song and I love the drives no matter the line up but I never forget to play the 1996-2004 Steve Earl records,
Very much that style, plus the original Skynyrd, add "Powderfinger," shake well
DBT Athens GA Thank You 40 watt!!!!
Brian Abbott They didn't play this song when Anthony saw them at the 40 Watt. You will only hear this at a Jason Isbell show, but probably never again at at DBT show. Kinda sucks but it is what it is...
***** Yeah I've been to several DBT shows in the last few months and haven't heard any of the stuff that Isbell wrote. Good thing they have a ton of other good stuff though.
Yep, they have a ton of great songs in their repertoire
Anthony Caldeira DBT, the Athens GA band where all the members are from Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
First heard this song on Militia Town Hall Meeting via Liberty Tree Radio Libertytreeradio
great song
Such a special group, love em
great tune!
105.5 The Colorado Sound brought me here.
It's great that they're opening for Eric Church, now his country crowd will get exposed to some real music.
Josh Ross lol
@James Zell The only people that the government would be keeping guns out of the hands of are crazy people like what shot up Sandy Hook or that concert in Vegas. Responsible owners like what I'm sure you are wouldn't need to worry.
@@furioussherman7265 neither of these happened the way they say
@@Shimlarian The way who said? The people with blood spatter on their faces and clothes from watching everyone around them cut down like wheat in a field?
A 50 year old man happened to carry numerous fire arms, evade security and camera, fire shots from two windows, and disappare without any real trace after killing himself.
Love it!!!👍
the dirty south AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I really enjoy "GREAT" Music
2020 Never gone change
THE BEST DBT song ever! Couldn't they all just get along? I sure hope they got rid of that Matt guy who replaced Shauna! Well he took her place on the instrument. There's no replacing that woman!
Stacy Jackson Damn Girl, I love that curly hair
Matt is a solid bass player. Check out his work with the Dexateens, another great Alabama band
I quoted this song in my dissertation. Damn straight.
What was the topic?

EDUCATION PROGRAM: A PARTICIPANT OBSERVATION STUDY
One of my committee members asked at the end, "don't you think China will change, and eventually become more democratic, and fair?"
Me: "No. We are not teaching them to do it that way, and we have more reasons to change to an authoritarian state by virtue of our relationship." I feel a bit sad to have been right.
Vincent Nix yes, yes you were. We go farther down the authoritarian road every day, or so it seems.
Im seeing isbell this summer, would love him to cook one of these up on a hot day.
He played it in Savannah at the Savannah Music Festival and I danced like it was a truckers show I never saw him with them.
I had a run in with the CNT recently. I was arrested for marijuana, by some arrogant cop who claimed he could arrest me for DUI less safe (you know without a field sobriety test just on a power trip over this plant in my car), the CNT visited me after that.
I played in a band with someone many years ago who stole pain pills from a pharmacy. And in Alabama they are motherfuckers give us three names and you're free. And my drummer was one of those names of the narcs, and I know the names come up in court.
So I pretended like I would help them, they said "it's just a number your name is out of it" and I saw the integrity of the man who would make it go away. I'll pay the fucking fine, I'll pass every drug test. But I would never cooperate with them after I saw my friend's life ruined for being a middle man. I won't ever stop smoking weed, and if that's a problem I'll leave this state. I won't drive with it anymore, apparently they can't search your car if they smell it burnt or unburnt.
I've had enough of liberal poly sci teachers I"m not going to make lofty arguments I just think it's not a big deal we should be able to smoke it without our lives being fucked up.
BC if you are reading this thanks because I can pass every drug test in multiple ways. Life lesson because I would really be doing some research I did in high school. They can watch me piss and touch my dick and it doesn't have to be synthetic for me to pass.
My buddy actually was arrested for a dui a little over a year ago for just having weed in the car. We got pulled over, I guess there was a vague smell in the car as we'd smoked like an hour prior however I smoked many cigs after so I thought that would cover it. Yea they arrested him, prob took blood which had and gave him a DUI. It was complete BS, guy lost his job, couldn't drive for 6 months and had to pay a shit ton of fines. There should be a difference between DUI's where someone "actually" gets hurt and not a soul is affected imo.
Clyde Drake Weed should be legal in every state. There definitely should be a difference between alcohol and weed and driving under the influence. Drunks kill people.
Wow... haven't heard country music this real since the 70's...
The Ban Man HankIII
This that southern rock buddy not country
I love you guys
Loves crows almost as much as the Drive Byes........
true
Good song.
Good kick butt party song.
I ant ever gonna CHANGE
Hello Heather how are you doing hope you’re having a great time with your family may God bless you and your family
Found em late, but found em nevertheless, am better for it.
Bad ass
"Just shut your mouth play along"
God I love DBT. Jason. Come back.
I love the fact that this song sounds like Tom Petty rest in peace

WOW THIS IS G♡♡D @ MY CHIROPRACTOR DR. MIKE GETTING YOU CRACK ME UP ❤
& I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE COMMENT THIS COULD POSSIBLY BE THE BEST BAND EVER ❤
Gold Tops
Best stay clear of us BOY
It's so cool to see an albem like the dirty south becuase nowadays people right songs not ablums like 1 good song on an album then a bunch of fill songs I can lisent to every song on this albem and think it's badass.
Reading this gave me a headache
Is funny put little big town in here make more country eargasams
amazing, a far lesser band without Jason and Shona
Jason is great..so is Shona..But Mike Cooley is one of the coolest ornierest cats on the planet. Patterson and Mke got it on lock..
amen to that wheelman stan.
@leobrodinho Nope, DBT has nothing with comercial music such as Bon Jovi!
DBT is DBT! ;))
Sounds exactly like a plugged in Neil young or Neil young with crazy horse. Still great song nonetheless.
Lynyrd skynyrd II
If a rap song was country
Wow. lol xDDD
all the good musicians are from Canada..
only idiots think that
If General Lee had these ol' boys playing electric at the front, he'd of never lost a fight, and scared them damn Yankees back up into Canada.
And slavery would still be legal! All hail the Confederation! like come on, I love this song and the south, but come ON
Always Hungry The south WILL rise again, and the civil war had little to nothing to do about slavery, it was about states rights mostly. Get your facts straight.
Yeah. States Rights to Slavery. What's more DBT would not have played in support of that war. Come into the future the water is poison.
Nah, we'd still have kicked your rebel asses.
Cmon guys leave the band out of this shit.
The new crown vic at parkers gap.....shut yer mouth and play along ...
Us yankees aint ever going to change either guys..
Speak for yourself. I'm aiming my truck for the Alabama line
Nothing wrong with u yanks but take it from me we aint never gonna change in the south. God bless the birth place of gospel, blues, jazz, and rock n roll. ;)
Dirty South....
This has Tom Petty written all over it. Fuckin' brilliant!
Dave M. Agree
Drive by truckers lost everything when Jason was no longer their singer.
You know the story? They had to fire him because of his drinking. He’s in recovery, hope he’s still there, and writing and performing great music. It would be nice if they could get back together, but doubt it. But American Band was a real nice album, and I hear the new one is gonna be good.
Respectfully disagree. I love Jason, saw him live last night, but the conflict would have torn the band apart.
I love that song, but have to admit that the vocal melodies look like some Bon Jovi...especially on the chorus..
Went to a DBT concert yesterday and they barely play any songs from this album T_T. They only played 2 and this was not one of them.
