    After doing the timing chain on my corsa I found the crank locking pin very helpful and locked the crank in perfectly. Always recommend going by the books too! Good job anyway

    Great video - very clear on all points. On the Peugeot DV6 the flywheel pin lock does work (the crank bolt on these is not that tight, it will come off with an extended ratchet) and it is at the correct locking position.

    Just done a cambelt and idler ulley on a Volvo D5. The car is 10 years old with only 13000 miles. Interestingly I found the idler pulley was leaking grease. I suppose it would have eventually seized as it would have run dry..... Low mileage doesn't mean good condition. Keep up the good work. Regards Charles

    I assume this is the same 1.6hdi engine as my car (407). I'm doing the timing belt at the moment and this video almost put me off as I didn't have an air gun. I just locked the flywheel with an alan key in the correct locking hole at the bottom of the engine, and removed the crankshaft pulley bolt with a cheater bar. This was the part I was dreading the most and it turned out to be no problem at all. Removed the alan key right after, and then went about locking the three pins in the diagram.
    When I say it 'almost put me off' I don't mean the video is bad by any means, I'm just airing my thoughts. I learned an awful lot here and I'd 'like' the video 5 times if they'd let me!!
    Nice one, really appreciate the videos!

    I have a C4 Picasso 1.6 HDi and using your VG video's am hoping to change the T/Belt
    'Q'... why do you have to pin the High Pressure Fuel pump pulley is it cos it is timed to the engine
    I'm also giving the engine a top overall bloody inlet ports gummed up so will find it much easier ( but more work ) to clean ports - so another
    'Q'... have you a video of removing the head etc and is it possible to remove the head and keep the top cam pulley in place but loose with timing belt in place - if you know what I mean...joe

      Joe Stubbs hi mate if you're not 100% sure personally I wouldn't do it you can cause a lot of damage I haven't done any videos on this particular car but I have done videos on removing heads on other cars and they are pretty much similar what I suggest you do is just buy a workshop manual for your car make sure everything is marked and correctly fixed in place with the correct marks take lots of pictures you shouldn't have a problem

    Excellent video. Thank you. After wedging a screwdriver between flywheel and gearbox case, you said not to remove crank pulley bolt with a ratchet, otherwise there would be damage. Do you mean that the screwdriver could snap off a flywheel tooth (teeth)? What method could be used to remove the crank pulley bolt if you do not have air tools?

    • @bodgitandleggitgarage
      @bodgitandleggitgarage  Před 8 lety

      hi mate sorry the only way I know how to do it is using airgun and what I meant by if you use a ratchet the timing will move which means you can cause damage the air gun is the safest way and the best in my opinion hope this helps thanks

      @yoyo895 Před 6 lety

      Great Video thanks! If the old timing belt is still in place when you remove the crank bolt with a ratchet, wouldn't that mean that you couldn't do damage? I'm doing this job but have no air gun!

    Hi Leon.. I know this is an old video for you now, but I have a question please.... Is this a common rail engine ? if it is a common rail engine do you need to time the HP pump ? as I have a peugeot 1.4 hdi to do and a mondeo / jag that is common rail.. cheers mate, I am getting my hands dirty :-)

    • @armandonika
      @armandonika Před 5 lety

      carbonlarge yes its a diesel HDI and yes you must time also the pressure pump if not you might get CEL with pressure codes

  • @chisty4436
    @chisty4436 Před 4 lety

    What I can’t understand on these is why you have to lock the fuel pump ? On my 2.0 hdi you don’t because it’s not timed and simply builds the pressure in the rail. How come it’s not the same with the 1.6 ?

    • @bodgitandleggitgarage
      @bodgitandleggitgarage  Před 4 lety

      hi mate it is the same I'm just going off what the book says when you do CZcams videos you have to be very careful specially timing belt because people will blame you when they do it wrong so I was just showing people what you have to do By The Book it's one of them things you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't but at least people with similar vehicles or different vehicles can still do the job without any problems

    Hello, I have Peugeot 308 e-hdi 2012 and it's got 70,000 miles on it. Is it good time to change the cambelt and waterpump now or should I wait until 112,000 miles which peugeot recommands?

    • @bodgitandleggitgarage
      @bodgitandleggitgarage  Před 4 lety

      Hi mate personally I would not listen to what the manufacturers say and average belt will last around 80000 miles or every 45 years people just think it's the mileage it also is the Year the rubber will break down over time even if you've got no mileage on it it can still break because the rubber has gone brittle

    Hi, Just curious, why would removing the bottom pulley affect the timing? If you removed the pulley to help remove the middle timing cover, what is the harm? Thanks Jonathan

    • @bodgitandleggitgarage
      @bodgitandleggitgarage  Před 8 lety

      hi mate for a star you can't get the bottom cover off without removing the bottom pulley and there is no keeway in the bottom pulley that's why you have to lock the engine

    • @jdean399
      @jdean399 Před 8 lety

      +bodgit and leggit garage Hi thanks for your reply,I am just a bit confused because in the video you put a drill bit in after you had taken the bottom pulley off, also could you explain why it matters if the bottom pulley has a key way, I can't understand why it would affect the engine timing? thanks Jonathan

    • @bodgitandleggitgarage
      @bodgitandleggitgarage  Před 8 lety

      +Jonathan Dean yes you need to take the bottom pulley off to be able to do the belts but if you do not lock anything as you put the belt back on if anything moves the time in will be off
