We will teach you what to look for when selecting a high quality Koi for your pond using mature two year olds. Everyone wants Shawn to select a beautiful fish, but we felt it would be so much more powerful to interview him and learn what to look for and how to actually select them for our own pond with his experience and knowledge.

For my sort of water fall pond Ill chose Shubunkin goldfish and cross breed with Koi .In my case Heron and Stork dictate my choice having lost 1000 dollar Koi six in one evening . Shubunkin are far faster can be just a interesting and far cheaper. Will grow to about 10 inch long and fill the purpose of having a pond in a garden.
My fav is the one with the red eye but I think he's gonna choose the racing stripe

This is a challenging question... I'm quite new to keeping Koi. Someday, I want to experience the breeding koi process and selling quality pond koi; at least once. For pattern, I would select the "lightening bolt' one. For a potential breeder, I'd go with the best body shape, so the "maru tan" (forgive misspelling) aka the second kohaku talked about. :)

+Rod Worx SA Great question. Of course that is predicated on the diet, pond size, genetics and filtration but i would say a run elf thumb could be 14 to 18 inches in a couple years under optimal conditions.
+ThePondDigger the size of the fish looks small, unless I heard wrong 2years old? I have some fish in the high 20cm class and they are about 5-6months old. Can a fish grow to fast? The shape of the body from top view makes for good quality, does it have an effect from an side view? the fish Shawn is showing looks allot slimmer than mine, they arnt over fed, nor have hanging / bulgy bellies. thanks Mark

How much are they?
They range in price.
Often 200-100,000 it depends on who u get it from but at Walmart u can get fry for $6 (American)
