    Just ordered a small strawberry guava tree from Amazon, this video is helpful, because I had never heard of this tree, and I am looking forward to seeing it grow, thanks.

    Great video ! I would also take advantage of the squirrel meat this tree provides.

    Thank you for the info. Mine is older and I have only got fruit once. I'll use the 2-10-10 in the spring and see if that works.

      The 2-10-10 should help. Make sure you fertilize it good as soon as you can in early spring. Have you pruned it yet?

    Hi, from Lutz as well. Hopefully I’ll get to try one of our strawberry guavas this year. Those squirrels are no joke!

      Unfortunately the squirrels do love them. I have a ton of flowers on my tree this year. Will see how many I end up with. I also planted a yellow variety last year and I have fruit on it now.

    The yellow ones are the best.

      You are correct. I have newer yellow variety that gave me fruit this past summer. They are very good! Happy Growing!

      Best time to prune is when they are finished bearing the fruit about Sept or so. I do a very light pruning early spring.

      @@tropicalfruitman4394, thank you so much for the tip. I didn't cut them back yet 😊 I cut back the blackberries, but, never got to the guavas.

  • @sayyidshillingford6353

    Mine goes as far as making the beautiful white flower… then they turn brown n drop off… they don’t make the fruit… any help please

    • @tropicalfruitman4394
      @tropicalfruitman4394  Před rokem

      I would prune the tree in late fall or early winter. Be sure to ferilize very early spring and make sure it gets enough water. Other than that it may take a while to start bearing fruit. I had to wait quite a while for mine to give fruit. Good luck and happy growing!

    Thanks for the video, I am in St PETE ,Fl and was given a small strawberry guava. How do you keep the squirrels from getting all the fruit?

    • @tropicalfruitman4394
      @tropicalfruitman4394  Před 4 lety +1

      It's impossible. I had so much fruit on my tree last year that I did not miss what the squirrels took. You can put plastic containers (fruit containers from grocery store) on some clusters of fruit. Cut a notch in the middle top and bottom then clip over the branch.

      Well, my tree is loaded this year which means there is plenty for everyone, including the squirrels. You will have to decide on a method to control them. Good luck and Happy Growing!

    • @tropicalfruitman4394
      @tropicalfruitman4394  Před 2 lety

      Strawberry guava is totally different from the feijoa but both are from the guava family.

    They look small doe a fruit does it get any bigger then that size???

    • @tropicalfruitman4394
      @tropicalfruitman4394  Před 3 lety

      Yes, this year I got a ton of fruit and it appears a lot of the fruit is bigger than the last two years. The yellow variety produces a larger fruit than this variety.

    I have a strawberry guava tree that produces flowers not fruits.Is it male or female tree? What can i do?

    • @tropicalfruitman4394
      @tropicalfruitman4394  Před 3 lety

      Probably best to get another tree and plant it close by. The tree is self pollinating but if you are not getting fruit then try planting another tree close by.

  • @AmmyWolfable
    @AmmyWolfable Před 4 lety

    I was hoping you could help me. I have a few of these trees and they are all producing fruit at the same time. We have two our trees rn giving us fruit. Is there a reason for this?

    • @tropicalfruitman4394
      @tropicalfruitman4394  Před 4 lety

      I'm not sure I understand the question but if you are asking why some trees are producing fruit and others are not. Sometimes that is the case where you can plant four of the same tress in different places in the garden and find that two may do very well and the other two not so good. Sometimes it is about placement of the tree. I have that problem with my papaya trees. No rhyme of reason, it's just the way it is. I hope that answered your question.

      i read on a site describing commercial growing of Guavas in the tropics fruit was ready 4-5 months after flowers. Also trimming restarted the clock for new growth /flowers then fruit.. As strawberry guava tolerate trimming you may try trimming small twigs on different trees different months. when they grow back different times it might spread out harvest. no guarantee
