Originally it was meant to be a GTA style free roaming game and then about 3/4 through it was changed as there was concern that it was too much like GTA (it wasnt) as there was a legal issue going on with a Simpsons game (the one that was like Crazy Taxi). The levels should all connect but we seperated them and made seperate loads, but thats why it looks a little ropey, because you could speed through the city and everything would stream flawlessy. So the forecast of how much it should make was different from the finished product.
There's also an action figure of the Predator out, now that was mega obscure as it came out a few years ago, but it is definitely awesome. Not sure if anyone apart from the Dev Team bought it@@MidniteMeatBus

This game is a love letter to predator fans. You can upgrade your weapons,get multiple costumes and even aliens make a cameo. It’s a good game!

Losing because you killed too many innocents isn't because the predator is a "good guy". It's because predators have honor. No killing things that can't fight back. That's for cowards.
The Predator lore is actually super cool and intriguing, both in its own right and how it all interacts with the Alien lore.

I dont know if anyone knows this, but it was largely written by Grant Morrison, who is a super awesome dude to work with. I learned a lot in a short space of time. He took our origunal proposal, cut half and explained why, and then added new stuff which enhanced our original idea. He also knows how to write for games, which is very different than writing for comics, movies, etc

Just a Predator trivia: the difficult settings are named after the phased of a Predator (or Yautja) hunter life:
Un-Blooded Yautja are young inexperienced hunters that fall behind even a Young Blood in rank. They are not yet experienced enough to participate in a Xenomorph Hunt.
Young Blood is a Yautja rank mainly composed of adolescent Yautja that have just completed their basic training regimen.
Blooded is the rank Young Blood Yautja attain after successfully killing their prey and marking themselves with their blood, notably the Xenomorph species.
And all that was copy pasted from Xenopedia just to be quick.
Yeah, the problem is none of that is canon to either series. All the Alien vs Predator stuff takes place in a separate non canon timeline that acts as a fun spinoff but neither universes are connected like Freddy vs Jason. The rankings are still true for the Predator species but not the Xenomorph stuff. In the real Predator universe the rankings are just for their first hunts in general. Unblooded hasn't completed a hunt, Young Blood has completed a successful hunt, and Blooded is an experienced hunter.

@@GORILLA_PIMP for its time it definitely was. I replayed 1-2 years ago and it holds up very well. The variety in executions and animations alone put most modern day titles to shame.

Reminder that Scarface is the single most hardcore Pred in the franchise.

Not to mention the son of mafia don he slew a century ago (turned into a human-Yautja hybrid due to his obsession with the Preds) and his mother-turned-supercomputer.
>Somehow indirectly actually improves the life quality of the city he's hunting in and mercy-kills every person the mafia experimented on (even Scarface notes that what they did to these folks was too much and leaving them alive would be cruel).

I love how the boss battle is a voodoo witch doctor with genetic augments because in predator 2 he fights a voodoo gang leader

I vividly remember seeing this game on the shelf in EB Games as an 8 year old and wanting to play it so badly. What a core memory!
Maybe the history of this games was hella stupid, but was a fun game, kind of sad no one never try to make a Predator 3rd Person experience again like this one, really good concept.

We tried really hard to not just be a big monster running around, we really wanted the player to feel like the character from the movies (and comics).
@@KevHarrison13 You definitely nailed predatory movements of Predator. Like getting away from something that moves like a human in a costume. I am not sure how you and the rest of devs felt when the game got harsh criticism in 2005 but it was not properly substantiated.
Thanks, one of the things we did was change the proportions of the Predator so he wasnt just a large human. A big influence was the Capcom version where he has a proportionly long torso/spine that allows him to pose realy well but isnt super noticeable.
The hardsh cricism did suck, but we were up against impossible deadlines and the longest hours I've ever worked in my life/career. So we knew it wasnt the best it could be, especially with the very late change from open world (which everything had been designed for, tech, AI, level design, etc) to stand alone levels. But, we got praise from fans and a lot of reviews did notice the love for the franchise and a certain levels being a spot on Predator experience, so that was great.

@@KevHarrison13 concrete jungle is imo STILL the only game to get the spirit and personality of the predator right. Like in the tutorial where the predator actually plays with the new weapons he picks up for a second, and the animations in general are still amazing, even by today's standards. The game just felt very satisfying to play.
Thanks, that was all very carefully planned with love, as there were a lot of big fans of Predator on the team. Design wise it wanted to capture that Predator apex hunter experience, like you were superior but had flaws and weaknesses, rules, and the hard bit was making that gel with gameplay. I just wished we'd have stuck to the open world format as we had to sacrifice a a fair bit and make it work in a small amount of time. It got battered by some reviewers too, some of which was fair, but they wanted the next blockbuster where we were aiming for the perfect Predator themed experience@@nope-qi8zx

Idk, I played games like this from the time I was 4 years old and up, and also watched extremely gory horror films from 4 years old and up and I'm fine. Never had any negative effect on my impressionable childhood mind.

Oh boy... I played jaws on an emulator not that long ago, and while the controls are absolutely terrible, its mechanics are incredibly solid. Actually puts "maneater" to shame in a lot of ways.

Great game. The Yautja have not had a great game rendition since this game. AVP had some good takes, but it is truly slept on. The comics have so many good story lines.
The enemies that get offed near the end, it sounds like they are getting “delighted” by the Predator 😅

I like how after they said the police bot was like a 40K Dreadnought, it then gets opened up to show its even more like one with a half dead dude plugged in to pilot it. What a metal game.

This is easily my favorite video game of all time it's what got me into Predator along with the movie this was my first ever rated M game my only complaint of this game is I wish the free room and open world was much bigger that is literally my only critique of the game maybe if they did something more like prototype when it comes to open world and traveling it it could have been a bigger map and free roam outside of the story

i was born in 2003 so i found out about Predator through mortal kombat X. I then did my research and found out he's from a film franchise. after giving the films a watch, I'd have to say Predator 2 is my favorite one.
Predator 2 had some big shoes to fill after the first one so it was unfairly maligned. Not as good as the first but underrated as a sequel

This game was awesome. My dad would swap games out every few weeks from blockbuster and he brought this home. Played it for hours, made sure the door was closed so my parents wouldn’t see the excessive gore lol.

Trippy because I was just thinking y'all should play one of the old Predator games the other day. Maybe give the 2010 AVP game a go? The predator and alien campaigns were super cruisey but the marine campaign was punishingly hard.

The thing I remember the most about this game is seeing it in game stores and thinking "Damn Concrete Jungle is a badass name for a game". I get now that I'm older that it's quite a common phrase but I always thought it sounded badass in the context of this game.
Those dudes inside that Ulysis Robots are the Androids developed by Weyland Yutani. Another awesome connection with the Aliens franchise.

This was a fun video! I love seeing CZcams channels revisit this old game, as it has remained one of my all-time favourite PS2 titles ever since I first played it. You honestly should play more of this! It gets way better after this first level and the new weapons like the Maul you get and the upgraded Disc that becomes the AVP Shuriken is badass! And yes, this game DOES include Xenomorphs! There's an entire mission where you fight them and you have to avoid their acid blood. There's also a great mission where you infiltrate a Don's high-tech mansion and kill all his gangster goons along the way. It's fantastic 😂

That robot with a guy with no limbs in it is an actully dreadnought from 40k since they actully used very injured space marines the same way of how these robots have

This game was a dream come true for me. Huge fan of the series. Scarface is one of the baddest predators around. As a kid i used to just marvel at the trophy case mechanic and suffer with the wonky controls. Great underrated game.

Remember getting this for the xbox from a small video game store that has been shut down years ago as a teen and remember being really stoked to own a physical copy of it which was rare in Finland never heard anyone talk about the game. To this day the best 25€ that i've spent, sadly I sold it years ago with all of my games so i could afford to buy PS4 which sucks
