Also in 1972 : - Solaris (Andrei Tarkovsky) - My Childhood (Bill Douglas) - The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds (Paul Newman) - Jeremiah Johnson (Sydney Pollack)
I just rewatched THE GODFATHER on last Saturday. Every scene of it was still as brilliantly superb as your narrated verdict. I must watch it again some other time to compare Brando's husky whispering and your rendition. Bravo.
My top 10: 10. The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean 9. Asylum 8. The Candidate 7. The Poseidon Adventure 6. Solaris 5. Trouble Man 4. What's Up Doc? 3. Cabaret 2. The Getaway 1. The Godfather

another nice list .. not a fan of some of them (didnt appreciate the godfathers that much although technically they were pretty good) but always enjoy your delivery ... other movies that affected me in some way were cries and whispers (probably my favorite of 1972) , el discreto encanto de la burguesia, l´amour l´apres midi (i enjoyed all of rohmers moral tales as a cycle in how the moral tale builds slowly and creeps up on the viewer subtly), Syberberg´s odd Ludwig, The Other (another of my childhood film favorites), and frenzy (kinda surprised you didnt mention it as it seemed really your kind of movie) ... no solaris since its the only tarko movie i have not seen yet (since i am a big tarko fan thought id just mention it) ... regards!
As the 1970s is the best decade for cinema and this is one of those stellar years, here's my 20 for the year 20. Fat City 19. What's Up Doc? 18. The Discreet Charm of The Bourgeoisie 17. King of Marvin Gardens 16. Silent Running 15. Solaris 14. Sounder 13. The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant 12. Jeremiah Johnson 11. The Mattei Affair 10. Sleuth 9. Play It Again Sam 8. The Candidate 7. Last Tango in Paris 6. The Heartbreak Kid 5. Cabaret 4. The Godfather 3. Deliverance 2. Cries and Whispers NUMBER ONE: AGUIRRE WRATH OF GOD
I have to agree that a Top 20 should have been in order for 1972. I didn't even think of Cries and Whispers and Solaris. If we're going to be subjective, I would also add Frenzy, Alfred Hitchcock's last major film, and a hint of what would have happened had he directed in the R-Rated era.
Hey I found a 1972 oddball that might be up your alley. Effects of Gamma rays on Man in the Moon Marigolds. Stars Joanne Woodward, directed by Paul Newman. Maybe you've seen it already. I really liked it.
I'd have included The King of Marvin Gardens, staring Jack Nicholson and Bruce Dern. It's similar but different to Five Easy Pieces, and about as good, IMHO.
Another great year in films. My top 5 are: 5 What's Up Doc? 4 Dracula: AD 1972 3 Bless This House 2 Carry On Abroad (in my top 20 films) 1 Frenzy (in my top 20 films)
Interesting List … but I think you missed the Great ones like Jeremiah Johnson, Solaris , What’s Up Doc?,The Poseidon Adventure, Last House on the Left,The Discret Charm of the Bourgeoisie and Sleuth
I almost saw Cabaret in theaters during a Fathom event, but my dad played it down and talked me out of it. That's the last time I listen to him regarding theaters.
I'll check out The Harder They Come; I haven't seen that one yet. But Pink Flamingos is definitely in the top 3 for me, and you left off Last House on the Left. I would say you're a snob and not a fan of cult films, but you included Female Prisoner Scorpion, so I'm confused... but no Sisters or Frenzy either? I like 110th Street as much as anyone, but c'mon, Super Fly is next to Shaft on a list of blaxploitation films; Ron O'Neal gives an amazing performance. I could also do a top 10 list of just giallo films...
Sorry. It's horrible that you forget films like: Sleuth of Joseph L. Mankiewicz Viskningar och rop of Ingmar Bergman Solyaris of Andrei Tarkovsky Die Bitteren tränen der Petra von Kant of Rainer Werner Fassbinder Frenzy of Alfred Hitchcock Jeremiah Johnson) of Sydney Pollack Le Charme discret de la bourgeoisie of Luis Buñuel
These commentarys are great, finding a lot of hidden gems
Sleuth (1972) coulda been an honorable mention imo.

Stumbled across your channel today and love your film knowledge and humor. Subscribed

Nah, the 1950s are the greatest decade of cinema by far, then it's the 1930s and 1940s.....
Then, I'd say the 1980s, and finally the 1970s......
@@andrewtheworldcitizen - Wow, you must really HATE the 1970s !!!
And no mention at all of the 1920s, 1960s or 1990s !?!

Wasn't the getaway based on novel by Jim Thompson? anyway great picks.
I almost saw Cabaret in theaters during a Fathom event, but my dad played it down and talked me out of it. That's the last time I listen to him regarding theaters.
Are you in transition??
Great movie selection

Without a doubt, The Poseidon Adventure was the best movie of 1972.
Fritz the Cat
The Mechanic
Culpepper Cattle Co.
Godfather is a classic. Godfather part 2 is even better
Nice
Hope all know of the torrid affair McQueen/McGraw that happened during filming The Getaway. Ali left Robert Evans head of paramount for McQueen.
Wow
No fist of fury
The Godfather
I know it's blasphemy but I like Deliverance more than The Godfather. I would've had Sleuth on my list
Really? Dissing Zardoz?
Man, you just don't get it.
Sorry.
