    this vid helped me a lot! i normally use side-pulls, but I'm willing to learn how to use a bit when im galloping in the wash! (yes, thats what i do for fun XD) Im buying a new horse tomorrow, and i don't think he'll need a bit, but imma try it out anyways. (i already knew how to put a bit on, but im doing more research) again, thank you!

    omg I have a head stall with Chicago screws! like how can I convert it to ties or something? I'm like terrified that they will come undone and I don't want to put glue or polish but I'm so afraid it'll come undone... even if I don't do any intense riding, mostly walking and trotting... but I've lost control of my horse and fell for the first time from a dry rotted curb strap! and I really don't want to loose control again! My horse although old and lazy can really pick up when something goes wrong (from faulty tack to loosing balance) and she speeds up...

    does a curb chain have the same purpose of a chin strap?

    • @smartpak
      @smartpak  Před 7 lety

      Hi Ligaya, thanks for the question! Curb chains and leather curb straps do serve the same purposes - to help keep the bit in place and to provide an additional point of leverage and contact when you pull back on the reins. As I’m sure you can imagine, curb chains have a bit more “bite” than a leather strap, but like all things bit-related, it’s really the hands of the rider that make the difference (a harsh bit can be used softly by a very skilled rider, while even a simple snaffle can be used too strongly by a novice rider). That’s why we always recommend working with a trainer to figure out what’s best for you and your horse. If you’d like to learn more about curb straps and chains, we recommend checking out this helpful article by our friends at Horse & Rider: horseandrider.com/article/curb-strap-fit-16095 Good luck and have a great ride! - SmartPaker Sarah

      @smartpak  Před 10 lety +2

      Hi Barrel Racer, thanks for your question! The answer is YES, we do! We even offer our own line of Western products, called Rockin' SP. Since you're looking for barrel racing tack, you could start with our Rockin' SP Laced Barrel Reins (bit.ly/1hZqB5t - by the way, Team SmartPak Barrel Racer, Michele McLeod, LOVES them!) and search through the rest of the Rockin' SP line of Western products. Don't forget that orders over $75 from SmartPak qualify for free shipping. We also offer free return shipping on all sized items, so if you get your order and some things don't quite fit the way you like, you can send them back and exchange them for free! Of course, if you have any questions, feel free to call our fantastic Customer Care team at 1-888-752-5171! Have a great ride! - SmartPaker Nels

    • @smartpak
      @smartpak  Před 10 lety +1

      Hi Julia Dierwechter! Great question, but unfortunately, the only reins we carry right now are leather barrel reins. But, the good news is that we are adding new products to our Western lineup all the time, so if you keep checking www.SmartPak.com, one of these days, we might just have exactly what you’re looking for. Of course, if you’d like to talk to someone on our supremely wonderful Customer Care team (1-888-752-5171), they could help you find something that’ll work great for you and your horse right now! And I’ll pass along your question to our Merchandising team - we always appreciate product requests from our customers! Have a great ride! - SmartPaker Nels

    for western tom thumb bits with three rings where would you put the curb chain??

    • @elliemccarthy5672
      @elliemccarthy5672 Před 6 lety +1

      in the garbage. Tom thumb bits are way to strong for any horse.

    • @jasminecave8634

      On the same ring that the headstall is attached to. If there is a small "slot" on that ring, you will attach the curb strap/chain there.
