- Long but very informative step by step video on how to drain the cooling system and replace the water pump, thermostats, coolant temp sensor, heater core flush, and refill the cooling system on the 2001-2005 LB7 and LLY Duramax diesel found in the GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado 2500 and 3500 trucks. Upgraded water pump was purchased from Dirty Hooker Diesel and all other parts from Amazon and Wal-Mart. I will provide links to all these parts and tools

Super underrated video. Should be the first one when searching lb7 water pump replacement.
Thank you I appreciate that.
Excellent video. I appreciate the correct wrench sizes, the correct details every step of the way. Other videos have guys that give many hints of their lack of experience. No doubt this mechanic has been self employed for decades. No shortcuts.
This is such a great video. So much patience and thought in the camera work. Truly a labor of love.
Great video from every tool and size to each bolt or nut in order to even how each part is removed, I work on semi trucks everyday but this was my first duramax you made what seemed a huge task into a simple non stressful experience.
Still rather be doing semi trucks
Such a great video!! I’m doing this right now and your video made it so simple and I wonts be paying $1500 to the mechanic who quoted me. Spent the money on some new tools and parts instead! Thanks for spending the time and making this a simple project for me!
Good to hear, glad I was able to help you out and save you some money this is exactly why I do these videos for people like you who really do appreciate it. Also thanks for the super thanks it definitely helps the channel out and is much appreciated.
Great video man helped me out a bunch replacing mine with ease bc of this 🙌🏼
Nice job, you have good hands. Very clean engine for the trucks' age.
Next time, try using a little Sil Glyde to lube up the heater hose and o'rings.
this is going to save me a hasssel thanks so much!
Excellent video! Very detailed and through. Made me decide to let my favorite mechanic do the job for me. ;) I'm too old and not very limber any more. :)
Great videoing and commentary work. Easy to follow explanations. I definitely will be following future video post.
Thanks! You saved me many $$$ and encouraged me to invest in my own tools and skills.
Wow thank you! I appreciate the tip 🙏 I’m glad I was able to help you out. It’s totally worth doing yourself and the satisfaction. Plus you have the tools for a lifetime.
that coolant bypass tube is now $284 from the link attached, crazy how 7 months can change the price
Geez yeah that’s crazy. We can thank good ole Joe for that.
So so helpful. 10/10 👍
God bless 🙏
Best video on this job I have seen. BTW How long is your cheater bar?
Thanks man! I’d say the cheater bar was about 3ft
Thanks!
thank you for the video. really helpful..
what is that little hose connected to the thermostat pipe? i put new clamps on it and antifreeze is leaking out the end.
hope you caught the broken fan blade.
Is there a special means to add the antifreeze back?
A special tool required?
Was told, one cannot just pure into reservoir
Else blow head gaskets 😊
You can use this tool amzn.to/3yR7Upt to help eliminate air in the system which leads to cavitation. But it is not required you can just fill through the reservoir and keep squeezing the upper radiator hose to help get air out. Not sure who told you that about blowing head gaskets
😎👍
Is the water pump still holding up
Yep no issues at all
Lb7 and LLY water pumps are the same? I have a 2005 2500HD but its not a LB7
Yea lb7 and lly share the same water pump if you have a 2005 you will have a lly because in 2006 they came out with the lbz.
Why not just pour all the coolant and water in and let the system mix it up.
You can do it that way, just be careful when it starts getting to the top so you still have a 50/50 mixture.
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE Yeah, that's true
Very well done. Just some suggestions. If you remove the bottom left nut and then the stud you don't have to pull the harmonic balancer. Also, any old trick I was taught is If you tighten a stud or bolt first it loosens much easier without breaking. And if you double nut a stud it is easier to get out with a wrench.
Why do all that just to change the thermostats🤦🏻♂️
Do you know of a better way?
